His mother Heidi Strbak, 33, and her ex-partner Matthew Scown, 33, appeared at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday for a committal hearing charged with murder.

Tyrell's uncle Danial Allan said he was "just not well" and "covered in bruises" on his head and arms the day before he died.

He allegedly told Mr Allan "Matthew had punched him in the stomach" and showed him a bruise above his genitals.

Mr Allan claimed Strbak, his stepsister, was "stoned as a parrot all the time" and should be jailed for not noticing his injuries. He added: "Someone should be locked up for it, if not one then both of them."

How did she not see when bathing him - what kind of a mother is that?

"Stoned as a parrot all the time - that's why."

When he asked Strbak about the bruises she said they "happened at kindy".

Neighbours who lived near the family in Runaway Bay said they heard her "screaming and yelling" at her son.

One witness said he heard her shouting the name Ty and "bad swear words".

Mr Allan previously told his ex-girlfriend Nicole Brown that Scown had murdered Tyrell.
