Roads have reopened after a Fyshwick business cleaning its roof with a high-pressure hose dislodged bonded asbestos material on Wednesday night.
WorkSafe ACT were called to the business on Barrier Street at 6.30pm and closed streets around the building as testing of the material took place.
After confirmation of asbestos was made, a 500-metre exclusion zone was set up and several streets were shut down.
ACT Work Safe commissioner Greg Jones released a statement on Wednesday night to say that the exclusion zone would last into Thursday morning.
"A warehouse roof that was being cleaned with a high-pressure hose dislodged bonded asbestos material from the roof," the statement read.
"The material has been tested by a licensed hygienist who is qualified to test for asbestos and has confirmed the presence of asbestos material.
"An exclusion zone is currently in place to ensure public safety, with a road closure in place at Isa Street and part of Barrier Street (500 metres either side of the intersection).
"All members of the public, including people with businesses in the zone should observe the exclusion zone."
WorkSafe was not aware of how many people could have been exposed. However, because the material was bonded asbestos, fibres were not expected to become airborne.
Shortly after 6.30am on Thursday morning, ACT Police confirmed all roads had reopened.
