This summer, I was privileged to visit Philadelphia for the first time. I came to America as a 3-year-old refugee.
As I approached the Liberty Bell, I was filled with a love for this country that has given me so many blessings. I could feel my heart pounding. Now I wonder if some of our candidates and elected officials feel the same way.
Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, for example, has vowed to strangle our republic with numerous investigations of Hillary Clinton, should she be elected. With approval of Congress and bipartisanship at all-time lows, why would he even consider more gridlock in Washington?
Donald Trump has advocated imprisoning Clinton and has said that gun owners could take matters into their own hands. He implies he may not accept our fundamental principle of the peaceful transition of power and insults the First Amendment by stifling free speech and denigrating the press.
He doesn’t seem to be running for president so much as king or — perhaps — messiah. We need to heal our nation, not fracture it further. I
