Within the framework of the Lebanon Host Communities Support Project (LHSP), jointly implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the rehabilitation of Qabb Elias irrigation canals project was implemented to support the farmers’ livelihood in the area and its surroundings. The Arabic version was distributed with Annahar and As-Safir newspapers while the English version was distributed with The Daily Star and the French one with L’Orient-Le Jour. Lebanese and Syrian writers, human rights activists, artists, journalists, media professionals and researchers discussed civil peace issues in addition to topics related to displaced Syrians and the communities that host them. Participants in this venture have given particular attention to the emotional, humanitarian, and economic dimensions of the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon.

The supplement contains articles by writers, journalists, media professionals, researchers and artists from Lebanon and Syria and Palestine; they cover issues related to civil peace in addition to the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon and the relations between Lebanese and Syrians, employing objective approaches that are free of hatred and misconceptions.
The high school accommodates more than 500 students, and employs over 60 teachers and staff members from Aley and the surrounding villages every year. However, the school suffered from serious infrastructure problems that included leaks in the entire roof of the building as well as broken and unhygienic toilets.
A workshop entitled Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) II was held on two consecutive days, September 21st and 22nd 2016. This event was held by the UNDP in collaboration with UN Women to support young people from across the region in addressing sustainable development challenges in four thematic areas: Gender Equality, Good Governance, Social Cohesion, and Economic Empowerment. Different speakers, who were once youth with ideas and now became innovative leaders, discussed different titles with the audience such as Leadership, SDGs, Economic Empowerment, social cohesion, and Gender Equality.
The committee of Al Qaraoun is one of several committees established together by local authorities and local actors all over Lebanon, under the supervision of the municipalities, supported by the UNDP “Peace Building in Lebanon” project to address the existing challenges to social stability and peace building as well as those caused by the impact of the Syrian crisis on host communities.
Paintings, handicrafts, canvas, knitted wool dresses and painted glass were displaced for the 550 visitors coming to attend the arts exhibition in Majdel Anjar, Bekaa organized on Friday 16th of September 2016. For three months, 60 Lebanese and Syrian, women, youth and children were given the opportunity to improve their hidden talents, learn new techniques to develop their art crafts and exchange knowledge and information with experts in the arts and design fields. This activity is organized by the socio-cultural committee of Majdel Anjar, as part of the Mechanisms for Social Stability (MSS) process, supported by the UNDP “Peace Building in Lebanon” and funded by UK DFID.
Nine of the brightest and best Lebanese film makers were given the chance to participate and represent their country in one of the most important international film festivals. These filmmakers successfully showcased their films with the aim for Lebanon to become a filming destination and a regional hub for the film industry. One of the Investment Development Authority of Lebanon’s (IDAL) greatest contributions was to the media sector. In fact, for the 2nd consecutive year, IDAL in partnership with the Lebanese Tourism Office in Paris and Fondation Liban Cinema (FLC), continued its support of the Lebanese film industry in Cannes through the sponsoring of the Lebanese Pavilion, the screening of Lebanese movies at the Cannes Film Market and the participation of Lebanese Filmmakers in workshops held during the festival.
The Social Good Summit is an annual event where activists, university students, journalists, NGO representatives & bloggers meet up to discuss big ideas and find solutions for a sustainable world. Just like last year, the 2016 Social Good Summit focused on the work that needs to be done to achieve the 17 Sustainable Goals in the next 15 years. This meeting is an international initiative where more than 60 meetings are taking place in different cities around the world.
