Sydney swingman Sam Reid is ready to put a frustrating 2016 behind him

SYDNEY swingman Sam Reid is ready to put a frustrating 2016 behind him.

The injury-prone defender failed to play a game this year after being hampered by a persistent Achilles tendon complaint.

However, in good news for the Swans and Reid, he is confident he will be 100 per cent for the first day of pre-season.

“It was obviously very frustrating and disappointing but I am confident with the work I have done in the back end of the year,” Reid told the Sydney website.

“I should be right to hit the ground running come pre-season.”

In a positive sign, Reid was close to making his return late last season.

He was training strongly in the lead up to the Grand Final but came up just short.

Although it was frustrating to watch from the sidelines, Reid said the training will hold him in good stead.

“It was a long shot to get back to play but at the very least we were hoping I would be able to get to a point where I had a normal off season which I haven’t had for about three years now,” he said.

“I am now able to do a proper off season program, the same as everyone else has and have no variation to what I do.

“I will be right to go on the first day of pre-season.”

With Xavier Richards being delisted by the Swans, Reid could slot into the forward line or the backline in 2017.

However, the 24 year old isn’t concerned with where he plays and just wants to get back out on the field with his teammates.

“To actually get out on the track and train with the footballs will be a good start,” he said of his upcoming goals.

“To play some games is obvious but we will just take it as it comes.”
