Canberrans may have expected frosty mornings to have passed a month out from summer, but that has not been the case.
Tuesday's overnight temperature dropped to minus 1.3 degrees, just 0.5 degrees warmer than Canberra's record low for November, set in 1967.
That makes it November's fifth coldest night on record, Weatherzone forecaster Brett Dutschke said.
He said the last time it dropped below minus 1.3 degrees was on November 4 in 2013, when it got to minus 1.5 degrees.
People took to social media on Tuesday morning to express dismay at the need to wipe ice of their cars on a chilly morning that was almost 9 degrees below the month's average.
Mr Dutschke said days have also been colder than usual, with Tuesday's top of 18 degrees 5 degrees colder than November's average daytime temperature.
Racegoers heading down to Thoroughbread Park for Race Day on Tuesday will likely enjoy a mostly sunny day, with a very slight chance of a shower.
"We're not likely to have days warmer than above average until Thursday and Friday this week," Mr Durschke said.
"Then it will be cooling down again over the weekend when it will be reaching mid-to-high teens each day."
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday were tipped to reach 20, 22, 24, 18 and 19 degrees respectively.
Mr Dutschke said the colder than average weather was due to a cold front coming through from the southern ocean, which brought easing winds, clear skies and dry air which could be blamed for the cooler nights.
"We have another cold front passing through later Tuesday and Tuesday night which means the following few mornings will be fairly chilly," he said.
"The next couple of mornings will be chilly but will unlikely to dip below freezing. There could be some light frosty patches briefly around sunrise and then we ca expect a few warmer nights and mornings."
The nighttime lows from Wednesday until sunday were expected to drop to between 4 and 6 degrees, though Saturday would be slightly higher at 10 degrees.
Mr Dutschke said Canberra's weather was likely to fluctuate between cooler and warmer than average for the rest of November.
They say not to plant your frost intolerant plants in Canberra before Cup Day. It’s Cup Day today and it was -1°C and frosty this morning.
