10 items you should remove from your bathroom immediately

Block 2016: Main bathroom reveal

Thanks to the humidity and constant change in temperature, your bathroom isn't the best place to store these things:

1. Extra razors

By all means keep your current razor in the shower or cabinet, but take the rest into another room. The moisture and steam from the shower could rust the blades before you get the chance to use them.

2. Nail polish

Pills and potions are best stored away from the bathroom.

Most polishes have an expected life of two years, but when kept in the bathroom their life span shortens as a result of fluctuating temperatures. The bedroom is a much more suitable place to store them.

3. Books

It may be tempting to keep them nearby, but the humidity of the bathroom and the paper pages are not a happy match.

4. Linen

Bathrooms are often the place where mould and mildew thrive, so it's best to keep only a few towels there, and store the rest in your linen cupboard.

5. Electronics

It's a bit of common sense; technology that isn't waterproof is very vulnerable to damage inside a humid bathroom, not to mention an electrical risk.

6. Perfume

Pretty bottles look great lined up on a bathroom shelf, but the heat and dampness in a bathroom speeds up the oxidation process and will spoil the scent faster. Make room in your bedroom instead.

7. Make-up

Similar to perfume, this should be stored at room temperature so as not to ruin it before its time.

8. Jewellery

Jewellery is more likely to tarnish faster in environments that are humid. Ideally it should be stored in a cool, dry room instead.

9. Medicine

Although it's common to find a "medicine cabinet" in the bathroom, most medicines are prone to moisture and fluctuating temperatures, so the bathroom is not the best place to store them.

10. Bar soap

This is more of a cleaning issue. Bar soap leaves slimy residue where it sits and requires cleaning every couple of days. For an easier life, use liquid soap in a dispenser.
