Canker Sores | How To Get Rid Of Canker Sores | Mouth Ulcer Treatment
Canker Sores or Mouth Ulcer. This video is on treatment, causes and home remedies to get rid of canker sores.
The mouth ulcer, also known as canker sores or aphthous ulcers. Can be surprisingly painful but the good news is in this video I’m going to teach you how to treat and prevent it.
WHAT IS A MOUTH ULCER:
Mouth ulcers are common and should clear up on their own within a week or 2. They're rarely a sign of anything serious but may be uncomfortable to live with.
Mouth ulcers are usually red or yellow and appear inside the mouth, on the cheeks or lips. Ulcers can also appear on the tongue. You may have more than one ulcer at a time and they can change in size.
Mouth ulcers aren't contagious and shouldn't be confused with cold sores. Cold sores appear on the lips or around the mouth a...

Now let’s review mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing for adults and children.
First, open the airway using the head-lift-chin-lift maneuver.
Pinch the nose shut to prevent air from escaping when delivering breaths.
Create a seal with your lips around the individual’s mouth.
Blow into the individual’s mouth and watch the chest. If the chest doesn’t rise, you may need to re-tilt the head or unblock the airway.
Give an additional breath. Make sure the breaths are duration of a full second.
If the chest doesn’t rise in two breaths, continue giving chest compressions.
Now let’s review the mouth-to-mouth/nose ventilations for infants.
First, open the infant’s airway using the head-tilt-chin-lift maneuver. Be sure not to hyperextend the neck.
Then create a seal with your lips around the infant’s mouth and nose.
Deliver the breath and watch the chest rise. Keep in mind that an infant’s lungs are smaller than an adult’s and need a smaller volume of air. If the chest does not rise, readjust the tilt of the head.
Then deliver a second breath and watch for the chest to rise. If you are unable to cover both the infant’s mouth and the nose entirely with your mouth, then pinch the nose close and then deliver breaths into the infant’s mouth. If the chest does not rise, readjust the tilt of the head.
Give an additional breath and watch for the chest to rise."

This short clip is aimed at anyone who may need to perform mouth-to-mouth ventilation on a child with a tracheostomy. It is vital that you carers understand the basics to prepare you for potential emergency situations. During what could be quite a daunting situation, by following the easy to follow instructions on the video, you will have a good overview of this key skill.
Our goal is to improve the safety and quality of care for patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies through education. We’ve collaborated with key stakeholders in tracheostomy care and developed these freely accessible resources, supported by online learning developed with the Department of Health. We’ve worked with the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative since 2012 to improve care for patients and their families around the world.
The paediatric videos were filmed at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in 2018 during routine anaesthetics, ward care and during home visits. As with all of our videos, the staff, parents and patients were fully informed about the filming and have given their consent for the videos to be used by the National Tracheostomy Safety Project. The adult videos were filmed in 2017 at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester. The children in our videos attended a special premiere in 2019 to thank them for their participation. You can find out more about how we made our films here: http://www.tracheostomy.org.uk/resources/videos
This is one of a series of videos dedicated to training and education around paediatric tracheostomy care. The videos feature patients and their families and carers demonstrating and explaining their experiences with tracheostomies. All of the participants have given appropriate consent to feature in these videos.

Canker sores are one of the most common oral conditions. This condition is known, colloquially, as sores or ulcers. In this 3D animation from Clínica Pardiñas (http://j.mp/cPardinas) we talk about what is a mouth ulcer and canker sore treatment.
Canker sores are superficial lesions that appear in the soft tissues of the mouth such as lips and tongue. They can be painful and cause problems when speaking and eating. Mouth ulcer treatment is usually symptomatic by applying protective gels, and most disappear on their own after a few days. It is important to check for any lesions in the mouth that are present for more than 21 days.

Infant mouth to mouth and nose technique.
In this video, we will be demonstrating the technique for infant mouth to mouth and nose technique. Follow these steps to give mouth to mouth and nose breaths to an infant.
Maintain a head tilt/chin lift to keep the airway open. Keep the head in the neutral position. Place your mouth over the infant's mouth and nose to create an airtight seal. Blow into the infant's nose and mouth, pausing to inhale between breaths, to make the chest rise with each breath. If the chest does not rise, repeat the head tilt/chin lift to re-open the airway, and try to give a breath that makes the chest rise.
When the airway is open, give two breaths that make the chest rise.

Cold sores appear on the lips or around the mouth and often begin with a tingling, itching or burning sensation.
If you have several mouth ulcers please visit your doctor if you have any of the following additional symptoms, this can be a symptom of:
• Hand, foot and mouth disease, which also causes a rash on the hands and feet
• Oral lichen planus, which causes a white, lacy pattern inside the cheeks
For pictures and more information on mouth ulcers please visit:

MOUTH ULCER CAUSES:
Various factors have been suggested to precipitate recurrent aphthous ulcers including:
• Oral trauma
• Anxiety or stress
• Certain foods (including chocolate, coffee, peanuts, and gluten-containing products)
• Stopping smoking
• Hormonal changes related to the menstrual cycle
• Iron or Vitamin B12 deficiencies
• A long-term condition – such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), coeliac disease or Behçet's disease
• Medications – including some NSAIDs, beta-blockers or nicorandil
MOUTH ULCER TREATMENTS:
Mouth ulcers need time to heal and there is no quick fix.
A pharmacist can recommend a treatment to speed up healing, prevent infection or reduce pain, for example:
• Steroid lozenges these can be quite effective at reducing the pain and may even help ulcers heal more quickly.
• Chlorhexidine mouthwash this isn’t quite as effective at reducing the pain however it may help mouth ulcers health more quickly and prevent them from becoming infected.
Chlorhexidine mouthwash causes brown staining on the surface of teeth if used for 4 weeks or longer. This is a type of staining that comes off after scaling and polishing by a dental professional. For more information on this mouthwash please read the information leaflet and speak to your pharmacist.
Whether you use steroid lozenges or chlorhexidine mouthwash for best results it's always best to start in the early stages of the ulcer that way it has the best chance of preventing the ulcer from developing and speed up the healing process.
MOUT ULCER PAIN RELIEF:
The next treatments don’t really prevent an ulcer from fully developing but are more useful for pain relief. This includes soothing protective pastes, paracetamol, ibuprofen, numbing spray or mouthwashes containing benzydamine and salt water mouthwashes.
To make a salt water mouthwash:
Add one teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and rinse gently around mouth. Remember to spit the water out, It can be done at least four times a day for four to five days.
With all medication always read the information leaflet and speak to your pharmacist to make sure you are suitable to take it.
WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR OR DENTIST:
If your mouth ulcer,
• Lasts longer than 3 weeks
• Keeps coming back
• Becomes more painful and red – this may be a sign of an infection
Although most mouth ulcers are harmless, a long-lasting mouth ulcer is sometimes a sign of mouth cancer. It's best to get it checked.
