The dreaded iPad mini PMIC failure. The chip is larger than most, and encased in a thick epoxy-like underfill. Here I show you my strategy for addressing chips with significant underfill for motherboard repair. Many of you will wonder "what temperature did I use" and the answer is: I do not measure the temperature, I use hot air completely by feeling. My station has no digital output for temperature and I've never measure it. If it is taking too long, I turn up the heat or flow or move closer to the board. If surrounding components are turning shiny and floating too soon, I back off the heat. I watch and listen to the bubbling of the flux and watch the surrounding components. I let the board tell me if it is too hot or too cold, or if the air flow is to light or too heavy.
