The rock legend has a strong connection to home.

What is your strongest memory of your childhood home?
The whole house … I have a real unbreakable bond with the home that my family moved into as I was being born. In fact, it is the first picture in my poetry book. I actually considered buying I back. I guess it’s the front lawn with the plum tree.

What do you remember about buying your first home?
I was only 25 and amazed that I could afford a home. It was a wonderful feeling to be putting down my own roots – and it had a swimming pool. I felt successful and grateful.

Have you ever house-shared (when you were younger or a student)?
I am from a big family – five kids, numerous grandkids who lived with us after they were born for a while. The house was never without youngsters. I never house-shared, I went on the road. I never was a student, [I’ve] been on the road for 52 years now.

Do you have any tips for organising your home?
Yes … breathe in the atmosphere, feel the energy. Try to keep that as you furnish and organise. All houses have a personality, it’s up to you to enhance it.

Do you have a favourite room?
I am a real ‘every room has a purpose’ person. The TV room for wine and movies, front lounge for writing songs, third floor is my ego room for enjoying my career. But I guess my absolute favourite is my bedroom, it is my sanctuary. Wood panelling, beautifully furnished with art and a huge TV with sound system. I can literally live in there.

What’s the worst piece of furniture or household item you have ever bought?
A flowered easy chair. I don’t know what possessed me. It was soon a gift to somebody else.

If you could live in a dream house, anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would say Detroit, this is where my heart remains.

Suzi Quatro will return to Australia in February with her Leather Forever Encore Tour. Shows include the Sydney Opera House on February 14 and Melbourne Arts Centre on February 18.
