AFL Women’s League pay protesters take fight to league headquarters
FOOTY fans protesting against the AFL’s pay proposal for female players took their fight to league headquarters tonight.
The #BootsOff Community Alliance, dressed up as bootless female footy players, gathered at AFL House where they trick-or-treated general manager of commercial operations Darren Birch for Halloween.
The Alliance’s Tash Howson said the AFL’s $5000 standard pay proposal, which does not include boots, wasn’t enough.
“The action was to use this silly occasion to talk about a serious issue: Will the AFL do what’s right and pay the women in its league a fair wage?” Ms Howson said.
“In order for the women’s game to be as good as it can be, the female players need to be invested in so that they can commit fulltime to football.”
We went trick or treating @AFL House today asking Gill for #fairpay for female footballers #bootsoff 😈 👻 🎃 pic.twitter.com/6J51jsG3vC
