Van Gogh is a 1991 French film written and directed by Maurice Pialat. It stars Jacques Dutronc in the role of Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, for which he won the 1992 César Award for Best Actor. Set in 1890, the film follows the last 67 days of Van Gogh's life and explores his relationships with his brother Theo, his physician Paul Gachet (most famous as the subject of Van Gogh's painting Portrait of Dr. Gachet), and the women in his life, including Gachet's daughter, Marguerite.
The film was entered into the 1991 Cannes Film Festival. The film was selected as the French entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 64th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
Vincent Van Gogh's life was a masterpiece painted with the dueling colors of madness versus genius. However, this inner battle gave birth to some of the greatest works of art known to man. The film traces Van Gogh's journey through the many twists and turns of his tumultuous and exciting life.

One of the greatest films by one of the finest directors of the second half of the 20th century, Maurice Pialat's Van Gogh represents an ambitious and crowning achievement in its portrayal of the master painter's final weeks of life, almost exactly one-hundred years earlier. Van Gogh, depicted by the remarkable actor/songwriter-singer Jacques Dutronc (Godard's Sauve qui peut (la vie)), has arrived at Auvers-sur-Oise to come under the care of Dr. Gachet (Gérard Séty) for his nervous agitation. Soon after the arrival of Vincent's brother Théo (Bernard Le Coq) and his wife, plein air portraiture and conviviality give way to the more crepuscular moods of brothels and cabarets, and the painter's anguished existence, tossing between money worries and an impassioned relationship with the doctor'...

Paul Dalio wrote and directed "Touched with Fire," a film exploring the passionate romance of two poets living with bipolar, based on his own experience living with the condition. At a David Lynch Foundation-hosted screening of the film, Paul opened up about his own struggles with bipolar and how pivotal the practice of Transcendental Meditation has proved to be in living a happy, healthy, and creatively-rich life. He says, "TM is the difference between surviving with bipolar and thriving with bipolar." "I never stopped meditating, without fail," he says. "That's when my doctor, Norman Rosenthal, witnessed the power of TM and was so blown away he decided to do a study on the effects of TM." Paul spoke about his inspiration behind creating the film. "I wanted for people sitting in the ...

It is one of the greatest and bloodiest mysteries in art: what happened on the December night in 1888 when Vincent van Gogh took a blade to his own ear? Jeremy Paxman joins art sleuth Bernadette Murphy on her amazing quest to discover the truth - what exactly did the artist do, why did he do it and who was the unknown girl he is said to have handed his severed ear to, her real identity kept secret by her family for over a century? It is an event that defines van Gogh, who created his greatest masterpieces including the sunflowers at the same moment as suffering mental torture, but what are the real facts? This revealing detective story travels from Vincent's home in the south of France to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and uncovers key evidence hidden in a Californian library that has c...

http://www.acts17.net On December 23, 1888, Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh cut off his own ear with a razor and delivered the ear to a girl named Rachel at a local brothel. Many have assumed that van Gogh's ear was some sort of twisted present for a prostitute he loved. However, recent research has shown that Rachel wasn't a prostitute. She was a farmer's daughter who had been mauled by a rabid dog. This new information about Rachel affects our understanding of van Gogh's tragic episode. In this video, I discuss van Gogh and the Gospel. From Paul: For more than two years, I've been downloading the posted images from the Facebook page "Van Gogh: The Life." I created this slide show using over 400 images of Vincent's drawings and paintings. All 400+ images were created in 9 years (1882-1890) as his technical skills and creative ideas evolved rapidly. I have grouped the images, first by his earlier and later works, and then by similar subject themes, such as Buildings; Faces, Trees, Walkers, Workers, Water, etc. And finally, by his numerous self-portraits. I have set the slideshow to the finale of Beethoven's 9th. Its frantic pace and feverish tempo are excellent matches to Vincent's own fast paced painting style, which he used so masterfully during his later years. Beethoven's use of the lyrics "..all Men Shall Becom...

Vincent Willem van Gogh (Dutch: [ˈvɪnsɛnt ˈʋɪləm vɑn ˈɣɔx];[note 1][1] 30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. In just over a decade he created approximately 2100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. They include landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, and are characterised by symbolic colours and dramatic, impulsive, highly expressive paintwork. He sold only one painting during his lifetime and was largely unnoticed by critics until his suicide, aged 37, which followed years of poverty and mental illness. Born into an upper-middle-class family, Van Gogh drew as a child, was thoughtful and intellectual but showed signs of mental ...

the shots, they scattered the wild life that was there
around van gogh's end
that road was just waiting to be followed but you never
go there again
he never went there again
we've heard about christ and your crosses but we all hear
unholy hums
we all run around painting portraits and sometimes an
ugly one
and sometimes they look like a van gogh
the sky it is huge and it's frightning and fear digs its
holes in the ground
the ground is just waiting to swallow and to fold her
wings around
and you, i can see you've been by there
i can see you behind your ghost
your eyes look like they've been damaged by going where
