Craig Safan (born December 17, 1948 in Los Angeles, California) is a Hollywood film composer whose biggest scores include The Last Starfighter, Mr. Wrong, Stand and Deliver, Fade to Black, Major Payne, Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, and music to the TV series Cheers, for which he won numerous ASCAP awards. His style consisted of often improvising as a form of composition that allowed him to quickly express himself.
Craig Safan was born in Los Angeles, son of an L.A. native Eugene Safan, who owned a downtown jewelry store. Safan’s father was a B17 bomber pilot during World War II who met his mother, Betty Torchin, in Laredo, Texas while stationed there at the Army Air Force Base. She was a piano virtuoso who had studied at the Cleveland Conservatory.
Safan began picking out tunes when he was 5 or 6 years old. Growing tired of classical music, Safan’s mother hired a teacher for him named Helene Mirich Spear who taught "popular" piano, who had young Craig improvising in his first lesson. Besides being a jazz pianist, she also played classical violin, so as well as the improvisation, she worked on technique by having him play Scott Joplin and Zez Confrey pieces.
The Destroyer is a series of paperback novels about a U.S. government operative named Remo Williams, originally by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir. The first novel was published in 1971, although the manuscript was completed on June 25, 1963. The main characters were adapted to film in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985). The film series is being adapted a second time; on this occasion, it will simply be called The Destroyer and will be directed by Shane Black.
The series was initially co-authored by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir, with each writing a portion of each book separately. In the late 1970s, the relationship between the two became tense, and Sapir withdrew. In the early 1980s, Murphy began using ghostwriters to help with the series, among them his wife Molly Cochran. In the mid-1980s, Sapir returned to participating in the series.
In the late 1980s, Will Murray took over the sole responsibility of writing the series, having written several previous books with either Murphy or Sapir. After Sapir's death, Murray continued the series until the late 1990s. When Murray left after novel #107, three novels were written by interim ghostwriters (#108 & #110 by Mike Newton; #109 by Alan Philipson). Jim Mullaney took over for novels #111-#131, followed by two more by Newton. Tim Somheil was ghostwriter from #134 through #145.

Tangerine Dream are a German electronic music group founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The group has seen many personnel changes over the years, with Froese being the only continuous member until his death in January 2015. Noted electronic music artist, drummer, and composer Klaus Schulze was briefly a member in an early lineup. The best known and most constant line-up of the group, which worked during their most influential mid-1970s period, was a trio with Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. In the late 1970s, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann, and this lineup was stable and extremely productive as well.
Tangerine Dream's recorded output has been prolific, having released over one hundred albums. Their work with the Ohr electronic music label, a period called the "Pink Years" because of a pink ear included in Ohr's logo, produced albums that had a pivotal role in the development of the musical genre known as krautrock. Their "Virgin Years," so-called because of their association with Virgin Records, produced albums that helped define what became known as the Berlin School of electronic music. These and later albums were influential in both the development of electronic dance music and also new-age music, although the band themselves disliked that term. From the late 1990s into the 2000s, Tangerine Dream continued to explore other styles of electronica.
The Last Starfighter is a 1984 American space opera film directed by Nick Castle. The film tells the story of Alex Rogan (Lance Guest), an average teenage boy recruited by an alien defense force to fight in an interstellar war. It also features Robert Preston, Dan O'Herlihy, Catherine Mary Stewart, Norman Snow and Kay E. Kuter.
The Last Starfighter, along with Disney's Tron, has the distinction of being one of cinema's earliest films to use extensive computer-generated imagery (CGI) to depict its many starships, environments and battle scenes. It is one of the first films to use CGI to represent "real-life" objects instead of digital graphics.
The Last Starfighter was Preston's final film role. His character, a "lovable con-man", was a nod to his most famous role as Harold Hill in The Music Man. There was a subsequent novelization of the film by Alan Dean Foster, as well as a video game based on the production. In 2004, it was also adapted as an off-Broadway musical.

The version heard on official releases of the soundtrack isn't the one used in the film. I lowered the pitch to have it sound like it did in the movie. Not 100% accurate to the rendition used in the film since this is missing a drum verse in the beginning but otherwise, this is it. I am using this simply for people to have something to listen to, I am not making profits from uploading officially licensed music nor taking the credit for it's production.

"Confrontation" was the written and performed by Craig Safan as the music to play of the the final violent scenes of Michael Mann's 1981 film Thief, where Frank (James Caan) is blowing up, burning and destroying his past life. I've always loved this soundtrack especially this song, and "Beach Theme/Beach Scene" (I'll probably do an equalizer effect vid for a combination of the tracks soon). Tangerine Dream did some other soundtracks that I really like including Scorcer, Miracle Mile, Near Dark, Firestarter, Risky Business, Legend, and The Keep. A very influential band. Thief (1981) is the second soundtrack album by the German band Tangerine Dream and their fifteenth album overall. It is the soundtrack for the film Thief, directed by Michael Mann. It reached No. 43 on the UK Albums ...

The film scores that permeated my youth seemed for the longest time to be written mostly by two guys – John Williams and James Horner. Though, while this pair were both loud and prolific – they weren’t the only composers in town. I come from a time of cinema obsession where the score and the images were indeed one. I cannot imagine the films of that period without their score nor can I hear the scores and not see the images. http://soundtrack.ucoz.com 71cgQcVVXJL 827034001021 A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 - The Dream Master - Front s-l300 standanddeliver Fade_to_black_1980 Other dominant composers of the period were Bill Conti, Basil Poledouris, Trevor Jones and a man named Craig Safan. Filmscore Fantastic Presents: The Last Starfighter The Suite composed by Craig Safan
By some miracle, I was able to isolate this track from a rare extended version of the OST for Thief (1981), performed by the very underrated band Tangerine Dream. This version of the final song, Confrontation, is the ACTUAL version used in the film, which is very different from the OST version you usually hear...its much more cosmic and dark, just like in the final 5 minutes of the film, which is still my favorite Michael Mann film to date. So when I die, please bury me to this song. Tnx, internetz!!!
By popular demand :-) I've extracted the music from the film and made this version. I had to fade it in because there were sounds of gun shots and people dying all over the place, so this is the last 4 minutes of the sound track. Enjoy! Information: http://mog.com/tangerman/blog/153611

Rod Taylor - 1973 Rod Taylor spectacular country folk classic rock 2014 japan remaster The credits on Taylor’s album reveal one heck of an all-star cast assembled to help him get his first set of songs recorded. Backing vocals are by Bonnie Bramlett and Joni Mitchell; guitarists include Ry Cooder, Jesse Ed Davis and Andrew Gold; bassists Lee Sklar and former Stone Poney Kenny Edwards; drums by Jim Keltner and Russ Kunkel; pedal steel by Red Rhodes; organ by Little Feat’s Bill Payne; and that’s probably only half the familiar names here. Happily, Taylor’s songs measure up to his backing cast. It’s a set of mostly laid-back country rock, led by Taylor’s bluesy, lived-in sounding vocals, but also dressed up with the occasional horn chart or psyched-out fiddling by folks such as David LaFla...

[AOR/Pop Rock/Freestyle/Synth Pop/Electronic/Pop/OST] Here is my custom made mini soundtrack album for the film: "Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master". This custom made album contains most of the songs that were NOT included on the official soundtrack release by Chrysalis Records. I personally hate the Chrysalis soundtrack album because most of the songs on it aren't even featured in the movie (at least to my knowledge). I like to consider this video the DEFINITIVE soundtrack to Nightmare 4 because it brings together all the songs that are promptly heard throughout the film and well praised by "Nightmare On Elm Street" fans. This video also gives fans two highly sought after tracks that are unreleased to the public: "Pride And Joy" by Joe Lamont (Track 7) and the score work by Crai...

A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge - Mark Patton Interview
LIKE. SHARE. SUBSCRIBE. The beginning of Michael Mann's journey to becoming an all time great started with Thief in 1981. A horridly underrated film, a film which was way ahead of it's time. I sit down and track this film as a direct inspiration to films of today, and even Michael Mann's own work. Recently got released in the Criterion Collection.
In this interview clip, we discuss charismatic (and effective) ways to deal with confrontation
