Next Saturday will be hot - maybe very hot...

There is an old saying that "a week is a long time in politics" - the same rule applies to weather forecasting which is why our weather experts at the Bureau of Meteorology can't be persuaded to predict the weather much beyond seven days.

But the BOM has made it's decision regarding next Saturday and the prediction is that the temperature will be somewhere between "hot" and "very hot".

Next Saturday will see temperatures around 35 degrees.

Forecasters have rules for these phrases. When the mercury reaches 32 degrees it is officially "hot" and when it breaks through the 38 degree barrier it is considered officially "very hot".

Whatever the outcome it will be a big change compared to today's maximum of 21.

Duty Forecaster Catherine Schelfhout says that they are officially predicting 35 degrees for next Saturday, but a lot depends on the sea breeze.

"Some models say it could be a bit warmer than 35, maybe up to 38. But we are seven days out and a lot could change depending on the sea breeze. If it comes in early we might only get 32 and if it comes in late maybe we'll get 38. Settling for 35 degrees at this stage seems a reasonable thing to do," she said.

The forecasts over the next week shows temperatures mostly climbing with a maximum of 25 for Monday, 27 for Tuesday, 28 for Wednesday, a bit of a dip back to 24 on Thursday before climbing back up to 28 for Friday and 35 for Saturday.

WAtoday readers in the northern parts of our great state will look at these temperatures and laugh out loud.

They look pretty mild to the residents of Marble Bar and other hot towns - but for Perth and the the south west next Saturday will see the return of slip, slop, slap.
