AFL trade period 2016: The trades that matter
Big moves across the board with Hawthorn surprising observers as the 2016 trade period wraps up.
Yarran was recruited by the Tigers from Carlton at the end of 2015, but has not played a game at his new club as he struggled with mental illness and injuries.
Newly-appointed general manager of football Neil Balme told SEN radio Yarran had worked hard to get into shape, confirming he had hired VFL footballer Tom Couch, the son of the late Brownlow medallist Paul Couch, as a personal trainer.
Balme said Yarran had been through a lot and was resilient and Richmond would do what it could to help get him ready to play.
But there were standards he had to meet to remain part of the group.
Yarran was due to return to the club next week with the younger members of the playing group, Balme said.
Richmond had not yet made any decisions on Yarran's future at the club.
"He'll either be able to get there or he won't," Balme said.
