Inkworks Press

Design Action Collective began in 2002 as an independent design and communications spin-off of Inkworks Press Collective. The following is from Inkworks Press after their closure in 2015.

INKWORKS PRESS WAS STARTED BY A SMALL GROUP OF ACTIVISTS IN 1974, TO BE A RESOURCE FOR THE PRINTING NEEDS OF THE MANY PROGRESSIVE ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVE IN THE BAY AREA.

We worked hard to develop our skills and, as a democratically managed work collective, maintained a union job shop which served a broad spectrum of the movements for social change until we closed at the end of 2015.

We’re grateful for 42 years of collaboration with so many good people. Thousands of pages of information, calls to action, stunning graphics and amazing art rolled off our presses. Our poster books are a testament to the breadth of the larger community of effort and a clear reminder that the work for social justice continues.

The Inkworks Press online poster archive was created by former Inkworker and political poster archivist Lincoln Cushing. It allows you to view many of the political posters that have been printed at Inkworks Press since 1974.

Most of the artists represented here have been working in the community arts for many years, devoting their work toward the ongoing struggle for peace and justice.

The archive can be accessed online at: http://www.docspopuli.org/IWwebcat/gallery-01.html
