Race on to run Stamford Park Homestead restaurant

ROWVILLE’S heritage-listed Stamford Park Homestead will be transformed into a destination hospitality venue, and experienced restaurateurs can apply to lease it.

Fitzroys, on behalf of Knox Council, is leasing the 400sq m, 134-year-old building via expressions of interest, seeking restaurateurs to work with, and co-invest in, the redevelopment.

Fitzroys executive Alex Thomas said the heritage building featured “period architectural quirks” including gothic gables, fretted barge boards, intricate wrought iron and a 5m-high ceiling.

He said the building, one of the last remaining Victorian-era homes in Melbourne’s east, had a “flexible” layout and there was potential for a 400sq m extension.

The building is being updated as part of the 6.3ha Stamford Park residential estate project which also includes about 150 dwellings.

Developer Stockland paid $17 million for the estate site and Leader reported earlier this year demand for housing was so high that people wanted to get onto a waiting list that didn’t yet exist.

Expressions of interest for the lease close November 21.
