James Cameron has taken another giant leap for mankind in his quest to go from "king of the world" to king of the deep.
This weekend the director returned from a record-breaking solo trip to the Marianas Trench's Challenger Deep—the planet's deepest ocean area. Cameron descended to the 6.8 mile deep undersea valley in a 2.5 story-tall "vertical torpedo" submarine and spent hours moving along the trench's seafloor and cliff walls, utilizing a robotic arm and "slurp gun" to collect sediment and small sea creatures for study.
The haul from Cameron's trip included scientific data, specimens, and a 3-D recording of his adventure, and may signal a renaissance in deep-sea study. A full report on the findings will be released in National Geographic magazine. We're pretty sure he didn't find any blue people down there, but here's hoping the new footage boasts a better plot than his last opus.

Beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean to the southeast of Japan, there is a very deep, crescent-shaped trench called the “Mariana trench.” Near the southern tip of the crescent, there is a small slot-shaped area called the “Challenger deep.”
With a measured depth of approximately 35,797 feet below sea level, a journey to the bottom of the Challenger deep is nearly seven miles, making it the deepest known place on Earth. To give you an idea of just how deep the Mariana trench is, if Mt. Everest were placed in the deepest part, there would still be over a mile of water above its peak!
The Challenger deep is named after a British Royal Navy ship called the HMS Challenger. The Challenger was the first ship to measure the depths of what is now known as the Challenger deep.
The trench was measured by “sounding,” which involves dropping a very long line with a weight at the end into a body of water. Improvements and advancements in technology have allowed modern scientists and researchers to use sonar to study ocean depths.
Only four descents into the Challenger deep have ever been achieved. The first was in 1960 by a vessel called the Trieste. The Trieste was a special kind of ship called a “bathyscaphe,” invented by Jacques and Auguste Piccard. The name “bathyscaphe” is taken from the Greek words for “deep” and “ship.”
The Trieste’s journey into the trench took almost five hours, while its return to the surface took three hours and 15 minutes. It remained on the ocean floor for only 20 minutes, due to a crack in a window caused by the extreme pressure.
The second descent into the Challenger deep was made in 1995 by an unmanned deep-sea robotic probe named Kaiko. Kaiko measured the Challenger deep at 35,696 feet. Kaiko also collected samples from the bottom of the deep.
The third descent into the Challenger deep took place in 2009, when the U.S. Navy sent the Nereus on an exploration. The Nereus is a hybrid remotely-operated vehicle, also known as an HROV.
The Nereus spent more than 10 hours at the bottom of the Challenger deep, sending live video and data back to a ship at the surface. Using a robotic arm, the Nereus also collected geological and biological samples from the ocean floor.
The most recent descent into the Challenger deep happened in 2012 by solo-diver James Cameron in the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER. He collected film footage, along with photographs and samples of water and deep sea organisms. The project is now in its second phase—scientific analysis of the expedition’s findings.

A new rendering of Huygens descent and touchdown created using real data recorded by the probe's instruments as it descended to the surface of Titan, Saturn's largest moon, on 14 January 2005.
The animation takes into account Titan's atmospheric conditions, including the Sun and wind direction, the behaviour of the parachute (with some artistic interpretation only on the movement of the ropes after touchdown), and the dynamics of the landing itself. Even the stones immediately facing Huygens were rendered to match the photograph of the landing site returned from the probe, which is revealed at the end of the animation.
Split into four sequences, the animation first shows a wide-angle view of the descent and landing followed by two close-ups of the touchdown from different angles, and finally a simulated view from Huygens itself -- the true Huygens experience.
This animation was released on the eighth anniversary of Huygen's touchdown on Titan as a Space Science Image of the Week feature.

The Seismology Research Centre has supplied 20 ocean bottom seismographs (OBS) to the Australian Geophysical Observing System (AGOS). AGOS acquires instrumentation to be made available to researchers Australia-wide to monitor the Earth's crust, and these OBS systems are the latest addition to Australia's research arsenal.
The OBS systems, manufactured by Guralp Systems in the UK, are designed to be deployed to depths of up to 6km for up to 12 months. The pressures at these depths are enormous, so the instrument housings are made from titanium for durability, longevity and reliability.
The OBS has releasable concrete ballast to help it sink to the ocean floor, and is fitted with a high-tech buoyancy material known as syntactic foam - the yellow blocks bolted to the OBS frame. This is the same material that made up 70% of the volume of the Deepsea Challenge submarine used by Titantic director James Cameron to descend 11km into the Marianas Trench, the deepest part of the world's oceans.
Once the OBS sinks to the ocean floor, the sensor orients itself and starts recording data. The OBS can be pinged from several locations the surface, and the position of the seismograph determined using triangulation, the same technique we use to locate earthquakes.
When the OBS needs to be recovered, a coded acoustic signal is sent to the OBS which initiates the release of the concrete ballast, assisted by carbon fibre leaf springs, allowing the OBS to float back to the surface.
Once on the surface, the OBS reads its location using GPS and transmits that information by AIS radio, as well as activating a high-intensity LED beacon for visibility when it is dark. An OBS can drift on the currents quite a distance while descending and resurfacing, but by pinging the OBS every few minutes its position can be tracked pretty accurately.
This video shows a shallow water test deployment with ropes attached for ease of recovery, but it is a different story when an OBS is deployed in deep water. After the surfaced unit it spotted, it needs to be hooked and hoisted back onto the ship, which can be difficult in rough seas.
Very often little is known about conditions at the bottom of the ocean, and there are many factors that can affect the recovery of an OBS: it might drift under a shelf, blocking its ability to resurface; it may tumble into a deep sea ravine; or it might get snagged on ocean rubbish such as fishing nets -- there is no way of knowing for certain, but the Guralp design is as compact as possible to minimise its profile.

O jogo se trata de alguém que perdeu a memória e está tentando relembrar seu passado, por isso mesmo, o jogo começa com o mínimo de informações e buscamos resolver todos os quebra-cabeças para descobrir a verdade.O game começa no ano de 1839, o protagonista do jogo se chama Daniel, um homem que nasceu em Londres (Inglaterra), que acorda em um castelo com sua memória parcialmente apagada(algumas coisas como seu nome e data de nascimento, ele lembra normalmente); Ao longo do jogo, nós iremos encontrar uma pintura do protagonista, pois ele não é visível em nenhum momento no jogo.
Mesmo sem saber o que aconteceu, em poucos minutos de gameplay, nós iremos achar uma carta que foi escrita por ele mesmo, dizendo que apagou sua memória de propósito e também estava escrita nela uma missão: ele deveria ir até o santuário do castelo e matar o Barão Alexander(ao longo do jogo, nós também iremos encontrar uma pintura dele no castelo), e assim começa o jogo. Você só irá compreender a história do jogo mesmo se você se preocupar em encontrar TODAS as páginas de um antigo diário de Daniel, Lerem suas anotações durante seu gameplay e além disso ele terá eventualmente visões de seu passado(algumas delas possuem dicas e são apenas em formato de ÁUDIO, ou seja, não possuem nenhum tipo de imagem mostrando o acontecimento)e assim aos poucos nós iremos entender o motivo, causa, razão ou circunstância de o porquê isso tudo estar acontecendo. A história do jogo não é complexa, mas em hipótese alguma ela é previsível. Enquanto você joga, provavelmente vai tentar adivinhar o que vai acontecendo ao longo do jogo, mas provavelmente você estará ERRADO, porque ele solta as informações muito devagar e não em uma ordem cronológica.
Existem quatro finais, e TODOS eles são escolhidos mas suas últimas escolhas antes de você realmente entrar no santuário: Muito bom, Bom, Mais ou Menos e Péssimo. No mínimo, se você jogar o jogo sem parar um minutinho se quer, durará quatro horas para você zerar-lo, mas é quase impossível conseguir isso e o motivo: PUZZELS (quebra-cabeças), MUITO complicados!
Como o jogo funciona: Nele, nós podemos andar, correr pular, abaixar, andar abaixado e dar uma olhadinha mínima para ver se há alguém vindo(ou coisa do tipo). Também podemos carregar objetos e trazer-los/arrastar-los/arremessar-los para outros locais. Em Amnesia, não temos armas e não conseguimos nos defender; Por isso, quando alguma criatura aparece, nós temos que nos esconder(dentro de armários, atrás de móveis, agachado no escuro, etc), senão, elas nos acham e nos matam. Daniel tem apenas uma lanterna(lampião) que pode ser recarregado com ÓLEO(pode ser encontrado dentro de gavetas ou até mesmo espalhado pelo ambiente) SEMPRE! Além disso, iremos encontrar pequenos frascos contendo PÓLVORA(servem para iluminar tochas, velas, etc), LÁUDANO(poção que serve quando perdemos muito sangue no caso de alguma criatura nos atacar e quando tomamos ela, enche um pouco nosso sangue) e POÇÃO DE SANIDADE(serve para quando nossa sanidade está baixa, e ela cai porque Daniel sofre de uma doença chamada Nictofobia, medo do escuro. Essa doença é causada porque quando uma pessoa está no escuro ou em algum local mal iluminado, ela tende a ver coisas fantasiosas, que sua mente confusa por causa do medo começa a falhar). Então quando estamos no escuro ao longo do game(além do mais os locais são muito mal iluminados) a sanidade de Daniel começa a cair; Sua visão começa a ficar turva, não consegue caminhar direito, o seu pânico aumenta e começa a fazer sons de desespero e seu coração dispara. Por isso, não pense que ficar no escuro é melhor porque as criaturas não te acham; A situação fica BEM pior! Se há uma criatura no mesmo local que você, ela poderá escutar os sons emitidos por Daniel e ela irá te encontrar( mesmo se você estiver BEM ESCONDIDO).

The Popular Mechanics September 2014 has an article on the above subject by the editors of PM. The article has three parts. I now divide it into three sections.
Q: Exactly how deep can a human being travel underwater using current technology?
A: The deepest point ever reached by man is 35,858 feet below the surface of the ocean, which happens to be as deep as water gets on earth. To go deeper, you’ll have to travel to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, a section of the Mariana Trench under the Pacific Ocean 200 miles southwest of Guam. And you’re going to need a shovel.
A: Two expeditions have successfully plumbed the almost-7-mile depths of the Challenger Deep. In 1960 U.S. Navy Lt. Don Walsh and Swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard (no relation to Jean-Luc) sat through a nearly 5-hour descent in a submersible, then spent 20 just-to-say-we-did-it minutes on the bottom before surfacing. In 2012 director James Cameron repeated the feat in Deepsea Challenger, a one-seater made chiefly on synthetic foam—a blend of tiny glass spheres and epoxy resin that not only floats (a good thing in a submarine, assuming one doesn’t want to remain underwater forever) but also stands up to the extreme pressures at that depth.
A: Cameron’s quasi-candy-bar-shaped craft was able to make the trip in half the time. He collected some data from the bottom, but, alas, no car keys.
Now, if you’re talking just a guy in the water, no cozy little capsule, the answer becomes less definitive. Officially, divers employed by the French underwater exploration outfit Comex (Compagnie Maritime d’Expertises), breathing carefully formulated gas mixtures and employing an elaborate pressurization regime known as saturation diving, hold the depth record of 1,752 feet. Unofficially, at least one person in a position to know suggests U.S. Navy divers may (wink, wink) have surpassed that depth, but details are, you guessed it, “classified.”

The Mariana Islands (also the Marianas; up to the early 20th century sometimes called Ladrones Islands, from Spanish Islas de los Ladrones meaning "Islands of Thieves") are an arc-shaped archipelago made up by the summits of fifteen volcanic mountains in the north-western Pacific Ocean between the 12th and 21st parallels north and along the 145th meridian east. They are south of Japan and north of New Guinea, and form the eastern limit of the Philippine Sea. The islands were named after Spanish Queen Mariana of Austria in the 17th century, when Spain started the colonization of the archipelago. They form the northern part of the western Pacific subregion of Micronesia, and are composed of two U.S. jurisdictions: the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and, at the southern end of the chain of islands, the territory of Guam.
The islands are part of a geologic structure known as the Izu-Bonin-Mariana Arc system, and range in age from 5 million years old in the north to 30 million years old in the south (Guam). The island chain arises as a result of the western edge of the Pacific Plate moving westward and plunging downward below the Mariana plate, a region which is the most volcanically active convergent plate boundary on Earth. This subduction region, just east of the island chain, forms the noted Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the Earth's oceans and lowest part of Earth's crust. In this region, according to geologic theory, water trapped in the extensive faulting of the Pacific Plate as serpentinite, is heated by the higher temperatures of depth during its subduction, and the pressure from the expanding steam results in the hydrothermal activity in the area, and the volcanic activity which formed the Mariana Islands.

To give you an idea of just how deep the Mariana trench is, if Mt. Everest were placed in the deepest part, there would still be over a mile of water above its peak! The Challenger deep is named after a British Royal Navy ship called the HMS Challenger. The Challenger was the first ship to measure the depths of what is now known as the Challenger deep. The trench was measured by “sounding,” which involves dropping a very long line with a weight at the end into a body of water. Improvements and advancements in technology have allowed modern scientists and researchers to use sonar to study ocean depths. Only four descents into the Challenger deep have ever been achieved. The first was in 1960 by a vessel called the Trieste. The Trieste was a special kind of ship called a “bathyscaphe,” invented by Jacques and Auguste Piccard. The name “bathyscaphe” is taken from the Greek words for “deep” and “ship.” The Trieste’s journey into the trench took almost five hours, while its return to the surface took three hours and 15 minutes. It remained on the ocean floor for only 20 minutes, due to a crack in a window caused by the extreme pressure. The second descent into the Challenger deep was made in 1995 by an unmanned deep-sea robotic probe named Kaiko. Kaiko measured the Challenger deep at 35,696 feet. Kaiko also collected samples from the bottom of the deep. The third descent into the Challenger deep took place in 2009, when the U.S. Navy sent the Nereus on an exploration. The Nereus is a hybrid remotely-operated vehicle, also known as an HROV. The Nereus spent more than 10 hours at the bottom of the Challenger deep, sending live video and data back to a ship at the surface. Using a robotic arm, the Nereus also collected geological and biological samples from the ocean floor. The most recent descent into the Challenger deep happened in 2012 by solo-diver James Cameron in the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER. He collected film footage, along with photographs and samples of water and deep sea organisms. The project is now in its second phase—scientific analysis of the expedition’s findings. A new rendering of Huygens descent and touchdown created using real data recorded by the probe's instruments as it descended to the surface of Titan, Saturn's largest moon, on 14 January 2005. The animation takes into account Titan's atmospheric conditions, including the Sun and wind direction, the behaviour of the parachute (with some artistic interpretation only on the movement of the ropes after touchdown), and the dynamics of the landing itself. Even the stones immediately facing Huygens were rendered to match the photograph of the landing site returned from the probe, which is revealed at the end of the animation. Split into four sequences, the animation first shows a wide-angle view of the descent and landing followed by two close-ups of the touchdown from different angles, and finally a simulated view from Huygens itself -- the true Huygens experience. The Seismology Research Centre has supplied 20 ocean bottom seismographs (OBS) to the Australian Geophysical Observing System (AGOS). AGOS acquires instrumentation to be made available to researchers Australia-wide to monitor the Earth's crust, and these OBS systems are the latest addition to Australia's research arsenal. The OBS systems, manufactured by Guralp Systems in the UK, are designed to be deployed to depths of up to 6km for up to 12 months. The pressures at these depths are enormous, so the instrument housings are made from titanium for durability, longevity and reliability. The OBS has releasable concrete ballast to help it sink to the ocean floor, and is fitted with a high-tech buoyancy material known as syntactic foam - the yellow blocks bolted to the OBS frame. This is the same material that made up 70% of the volume of the Deepsea Challenge submarine used by Titantic director James Cameron to descend 11km into the Marianas Trench, the deepest part of the world's oceans. Once the OBS sinks to the ocean floor, the sensor orients itself and starts recording data. The OBS can be pinged from several locations the surface, and the position of the seismograph determined using triangulation, the same technique we use to locate earthquakes. When the OBS needs to be recovered, a coded acoustic signal is sent to the OBS which initiates the release of the concrete ballast, assisted by carbon fibre leaf springs, allowing the OBS to float back to the surface. Once on the surface, the OBS reads its location using GPS and transmits that information by AIS radio, as well as activating a high-intensity LED beacon for visibility when it is dark. An OBS can drift on the currents quite a distance while descending and resurfacing, but by pinging the OBS every few minutes its position can be tracked pretty accurately. This video shows a shallow water test deployment with ropes attached for ease of recovery, but it is a different story when an OBS is deployed in deep water. After the surfaced unit it spotted, it needs to be hooked and hoisted back onto the ship, which can be difficult in rough seas. Very often little is known about conditions at the bottom of the ocean, and there are many factors that can affect the recovery of an OBS: it might drift under a shelf, blocking its ability to resurface; it may tumble into a deep sea ravine; or it might get snagged on ocean rubbish such as fishing nets -- there is no way of knowing for certain, but the Guralp design is as compact as possible to minimise its profile. Você só irá compreender a história do jogo mesmo se você se preocupar em encontrar TODAS as páginas de um antigo diário de Daniel, Lerem suas anotações durante seu gameplay e além disso ele terá eventualmente visões de seu passado(algumas delas possuem dicas e são apenas em formato de ÁUDIO, ou seja, não possuem nenhum tipo de imagem mostrando o acontecimento)e assim aos poucos nós iremos entender o motivo, causa, razão ou circunstância de o porquê isso tudo estar acontecendo. A história do jogo não é complexa, mas em hipótese alguma ela é previsível. Enquanto você joga, provavelmente vai tentar adivinhar o que vai acontecendo ao longo do jogo, mas provavelmente você estará ERRADO, porque ele solta as informações muito devagar e não em uma ordem cronológica. Existem quatro finais, e TODOS eles são escolhidos mas suas últimas escolhas antes de você realmente entrar no santuário: Muito bom, Bom, Mais ou Menos e Péssimo. No mínimo, se você jogar o jogo sem parar um minutinho se quer, durará quatro horas para você zerar-lo, mas é quase impossível conseguir isso e o motivo: PUZZELS (quebra-cabeças), MUITO complicados! Como o jogo funciona: Nele, nós podemos andar, correr pular, abaixar, andar abaixado e dar uma olhadinha mínima para ver se há alguém vindo(ou coisa do tipo). Também podemos carregar objetos e trazer-los/arrastar-los/arremessar-los para outros locais. Em Amnesia, não temos armas e não conseguimos nos defender; Por isso, quando alguma criatura aparece, nós temos que nos esconder(dentro de armários, atrás de móveis, agachado no escuro, etc), senão, elas nos acham e nos matam. Daniel tem apenas uma lanterna(lampião) que pode ser recarregado com ÓLEO(pode ser encontrado dentro de gavetas ou até mesmo espalhado pelo ambiente) SEMPRE! Além disso, iremos encontrar pequenos frascos contendo PÓLVORA(servem para iluminar tochas, velas, etc), LÁUDANO(poção que serve quando perdemos muito sangue no caso de alguma criatura nos atacar e quando tomamos ela, enche um pouco nosso sangue) e POÇÃO DE SANIDADE(serve para quando nossa sanidade está baixa, e ela cai porque Daniel sofre de uma doença chamada Nictofobia, medo do escuro. Essa doença é causada porque quando uma pessoa está no escuro ou em algum local mal iluminado, ela tende a ver coisas fantasiosas, que sua mente confusa por causa do medo começa a falhar). Então quando estamos no escuro ao longo do game(além do mais os locais são muito mal iluminados) a sanidade de Daniel começa a cair; Sua visão começa a ficar turva, não consegue caminhar direito, o seu pânico aumenta e começa a fazer sons de desespero e seu coração dispara. Por isso, não pense que ficar no escuro é melhor porque as criaturas não te acham; A situação fica BEM pior! Se há uma criatura no mesmo local que você, ela poderá escutar os sons emitidos por Daniel e ela irá te encontrar( mesmo se você estiver BEM ESCONDIDO). The Popular Mechanics September 2014 has an article on the above subject by the editors of PM. The article has three parts. I now divide it into three sections. Q: Exactly how deep can a human being travel underwater using current technology? A: The deepest point ever reached by man is 35,858 feet below the surface of the ocean, which happens to be as deep as water gets on earth. To go deeper, you’ll have to travel to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, a section of the Mariana Trench under the Pacific Ocean 200 miles southwest of Guam. And you’re going to need a shovel. A: Two expeditions have successfully plumbed the almost-7-mile depths of the Challenger Deep. In 1960 U.S. Navy Lt. Don Walsh and Swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard (no relation to Jean-Luc) sat through a nearly 5-hour descent in a submersible, then spent 20 just-to-say-we-did-it minutes on the bottom before surfacing. In 2012 director James Cameron repeated the feat in Deepsea Challenger, a one-seater made chiefly on synthetic foam—a blend of tiny glass spheres and epoxy resin that not only floats (a good thing in a submarine, assuming one doesn’t want to remain underwater forever) but also stands up to the extreme pressures at that depth. A: Cameron’s quasi-candy-bar-shaped craft was able to make the trip in half the time. He collected some data from the bottom, but, alas, no car keys. Now, if you’re talking just a guy in the water, no cozy little capsule, the answer becomes less definitive. Officially, divers employed by the French underwater exploration outfit Comex (Compagnie Maritime d’Expertises), breathing carefully formulated gas mixtures and employing an elaborate pressurization regime known as saturation diving, hold the depth record of 1,752 feet. Unofficially, at least one person in a position to know suggests U.S. Navy divers may (wink, wink) have surpassed that depth, but details are, you guessed it, “classified.” -

Marianas Trench Probed by James Cameron in Solo Dive
James Cameron has taken another giant leap for mankind in his quest to go from "king of the world" to king of the deep. This weekend the director returned from a record-breaking solo trip to the Marianas Trench's Challenger Deep—the planet's deepest ocean area. Cameron descended to the 6.8 mile deep undersea valley in a 2.5 story-tall "vertical torpedo" submarine and spent hours moving along the trench's seafloor and cliff walls, utilizing a robotic arm and "slurp gun" to collect sediment and small sea creatures for study. The haul from Cameron's trip included scientific data, specimens, and a 3-D recording of his adventure, and may signal a renaissance in deep-sea study. Beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean to the southeast of Japan, there is a very deep, crescent-shaped trench called the “Mariana trench.” Near the southern tip of the crescent, there is a small slot-shaped area called the “Challenger deep.”
With a measured depth of approximately 35,797 feet below sea level, a journey to the bottom of the Challenger deep is nearly seven miles, making it the deepest known place on Earth. To give you an idea of just how deep the Mariana trench is, if Mt. Everest were placed in the deepest part, there would still be over a mile of water above its peak!
The Challenger deep is named after a British Royal Navy ship called the HMS Challenger. The Challenger was the first ship to measure the depths of what is now known as the Challenger deep.
The trench was measured by “sounding,” which involves dropping a very long line with a weight at the end into a body of water. Improvements and advancements in technology have allowed modern scientists and researchers to use sonar to study ocean depths.
Only four descents into the Challenger deep have ever been achieved. The first was in 1960 by a vessel called the Trieste. The Trieste was a special kind of ship called a “bathyscaphe,” invented by Jacques and Auguste Piccard. The name “bathyscaphe” is taken from the Greek words for “deep” and “ship.”
The Trieste’s journey into the trench took almost five hours, while its return to the surface took three hours and 15 minutes. It remained on the ocean floor for only 20 minutes, due to a crack in a window caused by the extreme pressure.
The second descent into the Challenger deep was made in 1995 by an unmanned deep-sea robotic probe named Kaiko. Kaiko measured the Challenger deep at 35,696 feet. Kaiko also collected samples from the bottom of the deep.
The third descent into the Challenger deep took place in 2009, when the U.S. Navy sent the Nereus on an exploration. The Nereus is a hybrid remotely-operated vehicle, also known as an HROV.
The Nereus spent more than 10 hours at the bottom of the Challenger deep, sending live video and data back to a ship at the surface. Using a robotic arm, the Nereus also collected geological and biological samples from the ocean floor.
The most recent descent into the Challenger deep happened in 2012 by solo-diver James Cameron in the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER. He collected film footage, along with photographs and samples of water and deep sea organisms. The project is now in its second phase—scientific analysis of the expedition’s findings.

A new rendering of Huygens descent and touchdown created using real data recorded by the probe's instruments as it descended to the surface of Titan, Saturn's largest moon, on 14 January 2005.
The animation takes into account Titan's atmospheric conditions, including the Sun and wind direction, the behaviour of the parachute (with some artistic interpretation only on the movement of the ropes after touchdown), and the dynamics of the landing itself. Even the stones immediately facing Huygens were rendered to match the photograph of the landing site returned from the probe, which is revealed at the end of the animation.
Split into four sequences, the animation first shows a wide-angle view of the descent and landing followed by two close-ups of the touchdown from different angles, and finally a simulated view from Huygens itself -- the true Huygens experience.

The Seismology Research Centre has supplied 20 ocean bottom seismographs (OBS) to the Australian Geophysical Observing System (AGOS). AGOS acquires instrumentation to be made available to researchers Australia-wide to monitor the Earth's crust, and these OBS systems are the latest addition to Australia's research arsenal.
The OBS systems, manufactured by Guralp Systems in the UK, are designed to be deployed to depths of up to 6km for up to 12 months. The pressures at these depths are enormous, so the instrument housings are made from titanium for durability, longevity and reliability.
The OBS has releasable concrete ballast to help it sink to the ocean floor, and is fitted with a high-tech buoyancy material known as syntactic foam - the yellow blocks bolted to the OBS frame. This is the same material that made up 70% of the volume of the Deepsea Challenge submarine used by Titantic director James Cameron to descend 11km into the Marianas Trench, the deepest part of the world's oceans.
Once the OBS sinks to the ocean floor, the sensor orients itself and starts recording data. The OBS can be pinged from several locations the surface, and the position of the seismograph determined using triangulation, the same technique we use to locate earthquakes.
When the OBS needs to be recovered, a coded acoustic signal is sent to the OBS which initiates the release of the concrete ballast, assisted by carbon fibre leaf springs, allowing the OBS to float back to the surface.
Once on the surface, the OBS reads its location using GPS and transmits that information by AIS radio, as well as activating a high-intensity LED beacon for visibility when it is dark. An OBS can drift on the currents quite a distance while descending and resurfacing, but by pinging the OBS every few minutes its position can be tracked pretty accurately.
This video shows a shallow water test deployment with ropes attached for ease of recovery, but it is a different story when an OBS is deployed in deep water. After the surfaced unit it spotted, it needs to be hooked and hoisted back onto the ship, which can be difficult in rough seas.
Very often little is known about conditions at the bottom of the ocean, and there are many factors that can affect the recovery of an OBS: it might drift under a shelf, blocking its ability to resurface; it may tumble into a deep sea ravine; or it might get snagged on ocean rubbish such as fishing nets -- there is no way of knowing for certain, but the Guralp design is as compact as possible to minimise its profile.

Existem quatro finais, e TODOS eles são escolhidos mas suas últimas escolhas antes de você realmente entrar no santuário: Muito bom, Bom, Mais ou Menos e Péssimo. No mínimo, se você jogar o jogo sem parar um minutinho se quer, durará quatro horas para você zerar-lo, mas é quase impossível conseguir isso e o motivo: PUZZELS (quebra-cabeças), MUITO complicados!
Como o jogo funciona: Nele, nós podemos andar, correr pular, abaixar, andar abaixado e dar uma olhadinha mínima para ver se há alguém vindo(ou coisa do tipo). Também podemos carregar objetos e trazer-los/arrastar-los/arremessar-los para outros locais. Em Amnesia, não temos armas e não conseguimos nos defender; Por isso, quando alguma criatura aparece, nós temos que nos esconder(dentro de armários, atrás de móveis, agachado no escuro, etc), senão, elas nos acham e nos matam. Daniel tem apenas uma lanterna(lampião) que pode ser recarregado com ÓLEO(pode ser encontrado dentro de gavetas ou até mesmo espalhado pelo ambiente) SEMPRE! Além disso, iremos encontrar pequenos frascos contendo PÓLVORA(servem para iluminar tochas, velas, etc), LÁUDANO(poção que serve quando perdemos muito sangue no caso de alguma criatura nos atacar e quando tomamos ela, enche um pouco nosso sangue) e POÇÃO DE SANIDADE(serve para quando nossa sanidade está baixa, e ela cai porque Daniel sofre de uma doença chamada Nictofobia, medo do escuro. Essa doença é causada porque quando uma pessoa está no escuro ou em algum local mal iluminado, ela tende a ver coisas fantasiosas, que sua mente confusa por causa do medo começa a falhar). Então quando estamos no escuro ao longo do game(além do mais os locais são muito mal iluminados) a sanidade de Daniel começa a cair; Sua visão começa a ficar turva, não consegue caminhar direito, o seu pânico aumenta e começa a fazer sons de desespero e seu coração dispara. Por isso, não pense que ficar no escuro é melhor porque as criaturas não te acham; A situação fica BEM pior! Se há uma criatura no mesmo local que você, ela poderá escutar os sons emitidos por Daniel e ela irá te encontrar( mesmo se você estiver BEM ESCONDIDO).

No mínimo, se você jogar o jogo sem parar um minutinho se quer, durará quatro horas para você zerar-lo, mas é quase impossível conseguir isso e o motivo: PUZZELS (quebra-cabeças), MUITO complicados!
Como o jogo funciona: Nele, nós podemos andar, correr pular, abaixar, andar abaixado e dar uma olhadinha mínima para ver se há alguém vindo(ou coisa do tipo). Também podemos carregar objetos e trazer-los/arrastar-los/arremessar-los para outros locais. Em Amnesia, não temos armas e não conseguimos nos defender; Por isso, quando alguma criatura aparece, nós temos que nos esconder(dentro de armários, atrás de móveis, agachado no escuro, etc), senão, elas nos acham e nos matam. Daniel tem apenas uma lanterna(lampião) que pode ser recarregado com ÓLEO(pode ser encontrado dentro de gavetas ou até mesmo espalhado pelo ambiente) SEMPRE! Além disso, iremos encontrar pequenos frascos contendo PÓLVORA(servem para iluminar tochas, velas, etc), LÁUDANO(poção que serve quando perdemos muito sangue no caso de alguma criatura nos atacar e quando tomamos ela, enche um pouco nosso sangue) e POÇÃO DE SANIDADE(serve para quando nossa sanidade está baixa, e ela cai porque Daniel sofre de uma doença chamada Nictofobia, medo do escuro. Essa doença é causada porque quando uma pessoa está no escuro ou em algum local mal iluminado, ela tende a ver coisas fantasiosas, que sua mente confusa por causa do medo começa a falhar). Então quando estamos no escuro ao longo do game(além do mais os locais são muito mal iluminados) a sanidade de Daniel começa a cair; Sua visão começa a ficar turva, não consegue caminhar direito, o seu pânico aumenta e começa a fazer sons de desespero e seu coração dispara. Por isso, não pense que ficar no escuro é melhor porque as criaturas não te acham; A situação fica BEM pior! Se há uma criatura no mesmo local que você, ela poderá escutar os sons emitidos por Daniel e ela irá te encontrar( mesmo se você estiver BEM ESCONDIDO).

A: The deepest point ever reached by man is 35,858 feet below the surface of the ocean, which happens to be as deep as water gets on earth. To go deeper, you’ll have to travel to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, a section of the Mariana Trench under the Pacific Ocean 200 miles southwest of Guam. And you’re going to need a shovel.
A: Two expeditions have successfully plumbed the almost-7-mile depths of the Challenger Deep. In 1960 U.S. Navy Lt. Don Walsh and Swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard (no relation to Jean-Luc) sat through a nearly 5-hour descent in a submersible, then spent 20 just-to-say-we-did-it minutes on the bottom before surfacing. In 2012 director James Cameron repeated the feat in Deepsea Challenger, a one-seater made chiefly on synthetic foam—a blend of tiny glass spheres and epoxy resin that not only floats (a good thing in a submarine, assuming one doesn’t want to remain underwater forever) but also stands up to the extreme pressures at that depth.
A: Cameron’s quasi-candy-bar-shaped craft was able to make the trip in half the time. He collected some data from the bottom, but, alas, no car keys.
Now, if you’re talking just a guy in the water, no cozy little capsule, the answer becomes less definitive. Officially, divers employed by the French underwater exploration outfit Comex (Compagnie Maritime d’Expertises), breathing carefully formulated gas mixtures and employing an elaborate pressurization regime known as saturation diving, hold the depth record of 1,752 feet. Unofficially, at least one person in a position to know suggests U.S. Navy divers may (wink, wink) have surpassed that depth, but details are, you guessed it, “classified.”
