Steps for How to Install Your Own Security System:
1. Pick a central location in the house and plug the base station into an electrical outlet.
2. Install an entry sensor on the front door by first pulling the plastic tab to activate the internal battery.
3. Peel off the protective paper from the back of the battery sensor to expose the adhesive strip. Press the sensor onto the door.
4. Remove the peel-and-stick backing from the magnetic sensor and press it onto the door's side jamb, making sure to align it with the battery sensor.
5. Repeat the previous three steps to install entry sensors on windows and other exterior doors.
6. Mount a wireless motion sensor to the wall just inside the front door.
7. Install wireless smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house.
8. Mount the digital control keypad to the interior wall right beside the front door.
9. Program a personal pass code into the keypad for arming and disarming the alarm system.
10. You can also operate the system with a key fob or smartphone app on your cell phone.
11. Configure the video security camera to your home's Wi-Fi system.
12. Plug the camera into an electrical outlet. Then test the system.

Security alarm

Steps for How to Install Your Own Security System:
1. Pick a central location in the house and plug the base station into an electrical outlet.
2. Install an entry sensor on the front door by first pulling the plastic tab to activate the internal battery.
3. Peel off the protective paper from the back of the battery sensor to expose the adhesive strip. Press the sensor onto the door.
4. Remove the peel-and-stick backing from the magnetic sensor and press it onto the door's side jamb, making sure to align it with the battery sensor.
5. Repeat the previous three steps to install entry sensors on windows and other exterior doors.
6. Mount a wireless motion sensor to the wall just inside the front door.
7. Install wireless smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house.
8. Mount the digital control keypad to the interior wall right beside the front door.
9. Program a personal pass code into the keypad for arming and disarming the alarm system.
10. You can also operate the system with a key fob or smartphone app on your cell phone.
11. Configure the video security camera to your home's Wi-Fi system.
12. Plug the camera into an electrical outlet. Then test the system.

How to really build a Laser pointer security system
This is really quite a simple project requiring only about a half dozen electronic parts and when it's finished the security that it offers will rival the best laser security systems out there. The project uses parts that are easily acquired from local sources as well as a microcontroller chip worth just $1 so the whole project can be built for under $10. The project runs on just 3 AA Alkaline batteries and will last for 2 months with 24 hour a day continuous operation which also is a nice security feature since there are no power cords to cut. On top of all that, for security reasons the Laser shuts down once the laser has been interrupted which hopefully will hide it's whereabouts. This is my SimpliSafe Home Security System. This Simplisafe Review contains a review on the actual system, as well as the iPhone Application. Shortly after doing my Simplisafe review they added the Pin # to the iPhone app to help make it secure -- YAY!
I installed everything myself (basically its just peeling and sticking sensors). There are no wires that need to be ran for this system as it is completely wireless.
All Sensors run on CR123 Lithium batteries which typically will last 5 years in this scenario.

This is really quite a simple project requiring only about a half dozen electronic parts and when it's finished the security that it offers will rival the best laser security systems out there. The project uses parts that are easily acquired from local sources as well as a microcontroller chip worth just $1 so the whole project can be built for under $10. The project runs on just 3 AA Alkaline batteries and will last for 2 months with 24 hour a day continuous operation which also is a nice security feature since there are no power cords to cut. On top of all that, for security reasons the Laser shuts down once the laser has been interrupted which hopefully will hide it's whereabouts. The mirrors that I had used for this experiment were front sided mirrors from a photocopier but any mirror would work fine. And finally I should note that the project does use a variety of skills like soldering and cutting wood and such but are easily manageable with the right tools. Here's the programming for the project done in assembler:
