Virginia (i/vərˈdʒɪnjə/ vər-JIN-yə, UK /vərˈdʒɪniə/ vər-JIN-ee-ə), officially the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a state located in the South Atlantic region of the United States. Virginia is nicknamed the "Old Dominion" due to its status as the first colonial possession established in mainland British America, and "Mother of Presidents" because eight U.S. presidents were born there, more than any other state. The geography and climate of the Commonwealth are shaped by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay, which provide habitat for much of its flora and fauna. The capital of the Commonwealth is Richmond; Virginia Beach is the most populous city, and Fairfax County is the most populous political subdivision. The Commonwealth's estimated population as of 2014 is over 8.3 million.
The area's history begins with several indigenous groups, including the Powhatan. In 1607 the London Company established the Colony of Virginia as the first permanent New World English colony. Slave labor and the land acquired from displaced Native American tribes each played a significant role in the colony's early politics and plantation economy. Virginia was one of the 13 Colonies in the American Revolution and joined the Confederacy in the American Civil War, during which Richmond was made the Confederate capital and Virginia's northwestern counties seceded to form the state of West Virginia. Although the Commonwealth was under one-party rule for nearly a century following Reconstruction, both major national parties are competitive in modern Virginia.

Note: This video was recorded hands free and did not distract me from driving. I drove down to Petersburg, VA today to do some railfanning, but I kinda felt like filming the drive. I only filmed the drive between Chippenham Parkway and the I-85 junction. I live in the west end of Richmond, btw. I started filming on Chippenham Parkway not long after crossing the James River, and then I filmed driving on I-95 and stopped once we reached I-85. On I-85, I drive a few miles until Squirrel Level Road, where I get off, turn left, and follow the road until Collier. I like driving I-95 south for some reason, I just like the drive. Again: I didn't use my hands to record this. How did I keep the camera still then? I taped it to the dashboard. Enjoy the video!

It is approximately 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning. (08-10-2013) I decided to take a road trip to my aunt's house, mostly just to get away for a little while. We set up my sound system and light set and just goofed off for the entire day. Thought this would be a good idea to film for someone who is unable to travel or maybe just wanted to know what this section of the USA was like.

One of my favorite drives in the state of WV, Route 219 between Lewisburg and Marlinton. Nice sunny June day, very little traffic, in my truck with the windows part way down. NOTHING EXCITING HAPPENS - just a nice drive along our country roads! Captured with E-Prance D101 Car Dash Cam at HD 1080p resolution, with approx. 2X magnification to reduce the curvature on the outside edges.
On Wednesday, October 1, 2014, I made a return trip to Thurmond, West Virginia, hoping to see the fall colors and do some railfanning. Unfortunately, the trees hadn't changed like they had where I live in Ohio, but it was still an awesome trip. Even though I'd already recorded video of most of the trip through West Virginia last year, I recorded the entire trip from southern Ohio to Thurmond since I was in my new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. This video of the trip is from southern Ohio on US 35 and then exiting onto West Virginia 34 to get gas in Hurricane, WV.
