Charlottesville is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 43,475. It is the county seat of Albemarle County, which surrounds the city, though the two are separate legal entities. It is named after the British queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Charlottesville with Albemarle County for statistical purposes, bringing the total population to nearly 150,000. The city is the heart of the Charlottesville metropolitan area which includes Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene and Nelson counties.
Charlottesville is best known as the home to two U.S. Presidents, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe; while both served as Governor of Virginia, they lived in Charlottesville and traveled to and from the capitol (Richmond, Virginia) along the 71-mile (114 km) historic Three Notch'd Road. Close by is the historical home of a third U.S. President, James Madison, in Orange. It is also known as the home of the University of Virginia, which is one of the most historically prominent colleges in the United States and, along with Monticello, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The latter, Jefferson's mountain-top home, attracts approximately half a million tourists every year.

In this video I get lost looking for a Theater in Downtown Charlottesville, VA. I was supposed to shoot a concert with the Zoso Led Zeppelin Tribute band. I walk right past the theater, not recognizing it, then my little search turns into a nice walking tour of the historic downtown. Please overlook my mutterings and enjoy the charm and scenery. This is part one in a series of who knows how many of me wandering around Charlottesville - all pretty cool.
Take a tour of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello in United States -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. There are few presidents as famous or as influential in America as Thomas Jefferson. Similarly, there are few presidential homes as well known as Jefferson's home in Virginia, Monticello. Jefferson did most of the work on this house by himself over 40 years. This mirrors the individualism and industrious work ethic upon which the early nation was founded. Jefferson's beloved and ingeniously innovative house appears on the U.S. bill and nickel. Many of the president's personal belongings and unique inventions can still be seen at Monticello.

There's something pretty special about the people here in Charlottesville. Just ask anyone that lives here. We're not just talking about crazy fast fiber Internet: symmetrical gigabit Internet, the fastest around... though we'd argue that's pretty special too.
