Catholic and Catholicism refer to the beliefs and practices of various groups of Christians sharing beliefs such as continuity with early Christianity, practices including liturgical worship, and governance structures such as a hierarchy led by bishops. The terms are often associated with the Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, however several churches use these terms to describe their practices and beliefs.

Catholic Church

The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the largest Christian church, with more than 1.25 billion members worldwide. One of the oldest religious institutions in the world, it has played a prominent role in the history of Western civilisation.Headed by the Bishop of Rome, known as the Pope, its doctrines are summarised in the Nicene Creed. The Catholic Church is also notable within the Western Christian tradition for its celebration of the seven sacraments.

The Catholic Church teaches that it is the one true church founded by Jesus Christ, that its bishops are the successors of Christ's apostles, and that the Pope is the successor to Saint Peter. The Church maintains that the doctrine on faith and morals that it declares as definitive is infallible. The Latin Church, the autonomous Eastern Catholic Churches and religious institutes such as the Jesuits, mendicant orders and enclosed monastic orders, reflect a variety of theological emphases in the Church.

Big East Conference

The Big East Conference (stylized as BIG EAST) is a collegiate athletic conference that competes in NCAA Division I in all sports except football, which is not sponsored. The conference has been officially recognized as a Division I multi-sport conference, effective on August 1, 2013.

Its nucleus is composed of the "Catholic Seven" members of the Big East Conference (1979–2013): DePaul University, Georgetown University, Marquette University, Providence College, Seton Hall University, St. John's University, and Villanova University. In December 2012, these schools chose to split from the football playing schools in order to focus on basketball, and in March 2013 reached a settlement, whereby they retained the existing Big East Conference name, logos, and men's basketball tournament site. Butler University, Creighton University, and Xavier University also joined the conference on its July 1, 2013 launch date.

The football-playing members of the old Big East, along with several other schools, formed the American Athletic Conference, which retains the old Big East's charter and structure. However, both conferences claim 1979 as their founding date, and the same history up to 2013.

Central (Liverpool ward)

Coordinates: 53°24′36″N 2°58′48″W / 53.410°N 2.980°W / 53.410; -2.980 Central is a Liverpool City Council Ward in the Liverpool Riverside Parliamentary constituency. The population at the 2011 census was 20,340. It was formed for the 2004 municipal elections from the former Abercromby, Everton and Smithdown wards. It contains the majority of the city centre but also includes Kensington Fields in Kensington to the east and the Marybone/Holy Cross community in Vauxhall. The ward includes the longstanding city centre community around the Bullring, as well as many new city centre apartments. Furthermore, the ward contains the Pier Head and the two larger universities; the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University.

In 2004 Central was the city's most marginal ward, largely due to the intervention of the hard left Liverpool Labour Community Party. In more recent elections has become safer for Labour. The May 2008 local elections saw Labour take 62% of the vote.

Central United F.C.

Central United Football Club (formed in 1962) is an amateur Association football (soccer) club based in Sandringham, Auckland, New Zealand. They currently compete in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Premier.

The team was officially called Central until 1996, when it added "United" to its name.

History

The football club, formed by a group of young Croatian immigrants from Dalmatia, played initially in the lower division of the Northern League before rising to become one of New Zealand's top football clubs by the late 1990s.

Titles

Central United FC were the New Zealand champions in 1999, 2001 and were runner-up in 1998.

Central United FC also won the Chatham Cup in 1997, 1998, 2005, 2007 and 2012 and were runners-up in 2000 and 2001.

Trenton, Ontario

Trenton (2001 population 19,374) is a community in Southern Ontario in the municipality of Quinte West, Ontario, Canada. Located on the Bay of Quinte, it is the main population centre in Quinte West, and is one of the largest freestanding unincorporated communities in the province.

Trenton is the starting point for the Trent-Severn Waterway, which continues northwest to Peterborough and eventually Port Severn on Georgian Bay.

History

The Trent River was known to the Mississauga as Sangichiwigewonk, or 'fast flowing.' It was named after the River Trent in England.

French explorer Samuel de Champlain followed the Trent Severn passing through Trenton in 1615. The area around the mouth of the Trent River was first settled by Europeans in the 1780s. Assorted settlements and town plots in the area went under a number of names, until the Village of Trenton was incorporated in 1853. Trenton grew thanks to its port location and area lumber industry. During the First World War, the town was home to a major munitions plant owned by the British Chemical Company. This facility was built in 1915 to manufacture artillery, rifle, and small arms ammunition. Three weeks before the Armistice, an explosion levelled the plant. Remains of the old plant can still be found today.
