In this video, I will share with you how I make a lampshade/lantern with thick papers/cards. This lamp casts an unusual glow because of the way that the units connect. It is a great addition to home and room decor.
The lamp is about 17 cm in width and 21 cm in height. If you desire a larger version, simply use thicker paper/card (180 - 250 gsm) that is larger than A4 that I used here. However, you may have to manually upsize the inner support based on a new dimension, as the template here is designed for A4 paper construction.
While I used 180 gsm for the shade, the 300 gsm paper is used for the cover and support. This is to ensure the symmetry of the tube arrangement for a long term. The design also allows the change of the globe.
For your safety, please use low energy or LED globe for this project.

Robert's Paper Lantern Chandelier

Directions:
1. Begin by selecting a variety of paper lanterns -- it's nice to have two or three different sizes for variety. You can use as many paper lanterns as you'd like to create a chandelier of any size. When you've decided on your selection, go ahead and assemble all of them.
2. Next we'll begin suspending the lanterns from one central hanging loop. Cut a length of ribbon, slide it through the top of one lantern and then through the central hanging loop -- tie the two ends together leaving ribbon tails long enough to drape down over the side of the lantern. Continuing hanging each lantern in this manner. Keep in mind, it's best to hang your largest lanterns first -- you want them resting against one another just at slightly varied heights.
3. Create lights for the interior of your lanterns by wrapping a 12" length of floral wire around the exterior of a battery operated tea light. Twist the two ends of the floral wire together and bend the tails into a hook. Secure the wire by taping it to the tea light on the side opposite the hook. Turn the tea light on and feed it down through the top of the paper lantern, placing the wire hook of the lantern's framework.
4. Hang and enjoy!
Helpful Tips:
• Once you've strung your first few lanterns through your central hanging loop it's a good idea to hang the chandelier up while you continue to construct it. This will make it easier as you continue to string and place the smaller lanterns.
• ** I used a metal hanging hoop/loop found in the jewelry making section of my local craft store. However, you could just as easily use a small embroidery hoop or create your own hoop by cutting away the center of a small plastic lid.

Today, 01.04.2012 Prāta Vētra releases brand new single "Lantern" from forthcoming album "Another Still Life". (Vēl Viena Klusā Daba -- Latvian title). This summer Prāta Vētra will be touring Latvia with six open-air shows. The tour will start on 28th of July in Jelgava, followed by Ventspils on 3rd of August, Saldus on 5th of August, Valmiera on 10th of August, Preiļi on 12th of August and the closing show will be in Riga, SKONTO Stadium on 17th of August. Album has been recorded from September 2011 till April this year at "Diarama Studio" Hudson, NY, USA; "Courtyard Studio" Oxford, Great Britain, "Ol' Ingrids place" and "Ziņģu Nams" Riga, Latvia. Album is produced by David Field, Prāta Vētra, Ingars Viļums. Additional production by Steve Durand and Ian Davenport. Album artwork designed by Līga Kitchen.
Band sees the new single "Lantern" as kaleidoscopic view of themselves through producer's David Field binoculars: "During songwriting session in Hudson David had an idea each of us should take blank piece of paper and write down how we see ourselves as a band taking into account our past and visions about the future. Other day we spent reading them to David and he picked the ones he felt are special and interesting. Through this process the lyrics for "Lantern" was created".
Musical material for the song came from Māris Mihelsons' demo tapes. Video is directed by the drummer Kaspars Roga who did visualised the idea of the song putting together scenes from band's and their friends' life: "Good song can not be damaged by the video -- my main task was to make more vivid summer feeling the song carries. I also used video material we shot at the studios where album was recorded. This way the viewers can have a sneak peak of the creative and fun process we had recording new songs".

The DC Extended Universe hasn't exactly blown comic book movie fans away to date. Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad all underwhelmed on the whole - and something needs to be done to vamp the franchise up.
The introduction of the Justice League and the Green Lantern Corps will undoubtedly help to do that, with the first Justice League movie hitting theatres in 2017, a sequel following in 2019, and a Green Lantern Corps movie in 2020.
At least one member of the new Green Lantern Corps will no doubt end up joining the Justice League - and DC and Warner Brothers will want to make sure they get the actors right, after the Ryan Reynolds version flopped so badly in 2011. So, based on the assumption that the main Green Lantern of the DCEU will either be John Stewart or Hal Jordan, both of which have been rumoured, let's take a look of some potentially suitable candidates to portray them.

Lantern
A lantern is a portable lighting device or mounted fixture used to illuminate areas. Lanterns may also be used for signaling, as torches, or as general light sources outdoors. Low light level varieties are used for decoration. The term "lantern" is also used more generically to mean a light source, or the enclosure for a light source. Examples are glass pane enclosed street lights, or the housing for the top lamp and lens section of a lighthouse. The term is commonly associated with Chinese paper lanterns.
History
Lanterns are first spoken of by Theopompus, a Greek poet, and Empedocles of Agrigentum. Lanterns were used by the ancients in augury. The only known representation of an ancient Egyptian lantern probably is not much different from those spoken of by John the Evangelist in John 18:3 from the New Testament, where the party of men who went out of Jerusalem to apprehend Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane is described as being provided “with lanterns and torches.” Lanterns in ancient China were made of silk, paper, or animal skin with frames made of bamboo or wood. One of the earliest descriptions of paper lanterns is found in records from Khotan, which describe a "mounting lantern" made of white paper.

Will Rahim be the next accused to be sentenced to death by Diwan?

Directions:
1. Begin by selecting a variety of paper lanterns -- it's nice to have two or three different sizes for variety. You can use as many paper lanterns as you'd like to create a chandelier of any size. When you've decided on your selection, go ahead and assemble all of them.
2. Next we'll begin suspending the lanterns from one central hanging loop. Cut a length of ribbon, slide it through the top of one lantern and then through the central hanging loop -- tie the two ends together leaving ribbon tails long enough to drape down over the side of the lantern. Continuing hanging each lantern in this manner. Keep in mind, it's best to hang your largest lanterns first -- you want them resting against one another just at slightly varied heights.
3. Create lights for the interior of your lanterns by wrapping a 12" length of floral wire around the exterior of a battery operated tea light. Twist the two ends of the floral wire together and bend the tails into a hook. Secure the wire by taping it to the tea light on the side opposite the hook. Turn the tea light on and feed it down through the top of the paper lantern, placing the wire hook of the lantern's framework.
4. Hang and enjoy!
Helpful Tips:
• Once you've strung your first few lanterns through your central hanging loop it's a good idea to hang the chandelier up while you continue to construct it. This will make it easier as you continue to string and place the smaller lanterns.
• ** I used a metal hanging hoop/loop found in the jewelry making section of my local craft store. However, you could just as easily use a small embroidery hoop or create your own hoop by cutting away the center of a small plastic lid.

Other day we spent reading them to David and he picked the ones he felt are special and interesting. Through this process the lyrics for "Lantern" was created".
Musical material for the song came from Māris Mihelsons' demo tapes. Video is directed by the drummer Kaspars Roga who did visualised the idea of the song putting together scenes from band's and their friends' life: "Good song can not be damaged by the video -- my main task was to make more vivid summer feeling the song carries. I also used video material we shot at the studios where album was recorded. This way the viewers can have a sneak peak of the creative and fun process we had recording new songs".

Today, 01.04.2012 Prāta Vētra releases brand new single "Lantern" from forthcoming album "Another Still Life". (Vēl Viena Klusā Daba -- Latvian title). The DC Extended Universe hasn't exactly blown comic book movie fans away to date. Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad all underwhelmed on the whole - and something needs to be done to vamp the franchise up.
The introduction of the Justice League and the Green Lantern Corps will undoubtedly help to do that, with the first Justice League movie hitting theatres in 2017, a sequel following in 2019, and a Green Lantern Corps movie in 2020.
At least one member of the new Green Lantern Corps will no doubt end up joining the Justice League - and DC and Warner Brothers will want to make sure they get the actors right, after the Ryan Reynolds version flopped so badly in 2011. So, based on the assumption that the main Green Lantern of the DCEU will either be John Stewart or Hal Jordan, both of which have been rumoured, let's take a look of some potentially suitable candidates to portray them.
