367943 Duende, also known by its provisional designation 2012 DA14, is an Aten near-Earth asteroid with an estimated diameter of 30 meters (98 ft). Before radar imaging, its estimated diameter was 45–50 meters. During its 15 February 2013 close passage, Duende passed 27,700 km (17,200 mi), or 4.3 Earth radii, from Earth's surface. This is a record close approach for a known object of this size. About 16 hours before the closest approach of Duende, an asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere above Russia, which was, however, unrelated to it because it had a completely different orbit.
Duende was discovered on February 23, 2012, by the Observatorio Astronómico de La Sagra, Granada Province in Spain (J75), operated remotely by amateur astronomers in Mallorca, seven days after passing 0.0174 AU (2,600,000 km; 1,620,000 mi) from Earth. It was named after the duende, fairy- or goblin-like mythological creatures from Iberian, Latin American and Filipino folklore.
2012 (MMXII) was a leap year starting on Sunday (dominical letter AG) of the Gregorian calendar, the 2012th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 12th year of the 3rd millennium, the 12th year of the 21st century, and the 3rd year of the 2010s decade.
2012 was designated as:

Asteroids are minor planets, especially those of the inner Solar System. The larger ones have also been called planetoids. These terms have historically been applied to any astronomical object orbiting the Sun that did not show the disc of a planet and was not observed to have the characteristics of an active comet. As minor planets in the outer Solar System were discovered and found to have volatile-based surfaces that resemble those of comets, they were often distinguished from asteroids of the asteroid belt. In this article, the term "asteroid" refers to the minor planets of the inner Solar System including those in co-orbit with Jupiter.
There are millions of asteroids, many thought to be the shattered remnants of planetesimals, bodies within the young Sun's solar nebula that never grew large enough to become planets. The large majority of known asteroids orbit in the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, or are co-orbital with Jupiter (the Jupiter trojans). However, other orbital families exist with significant populations, including the near-Earth asteroids. Individual asteroids are classified by their characteristic spectra, with the majority falling into three main groups: C-type, M-type, and S-type. These were named after and are generally identified with carbon-rich, metallic, and silicate (stony) compositions, respectively.
Don't consider this a count-down to doomsday, but on February 15 an asteroid is going to come pretty close to Earth. And this is only one of thousands of objects that are destined to one day enter our neighborhood in space. "There are lots of asteroids that we're watching that we haven't yet ruled out an Earth impact, but all of them have an impact probability that is very, very low," Don Yeomans, manager of the Near-Earth Object Program Office at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said at a press briefing. This particular asteroid is called 2012 DA14. NASA scientists reiterated Thursday that people have nothing to worry about. "No Earth impact is possible," Yeomans said. The asteroid is thought to be 45 meters -- about half a football field -- long. It will come no closer than...
On February 15, a 45-meter wide asteroid known as "2012 DA14" will pass within 20,000 miles of Earth, which is approximately 1/12th of the way to the Moon and well within range of many Earth-orbiting satellites. While scientists don't anticipate a collision with Earth, it could make for some fantastic skywatching for space geeks in certain parts of the world. To capture the event, AGI aerospace engineers have used our Systems Tool Kit(STK) software to create an animation showing: -2012 DA14's deep space trajectory as it approaches Earth -The pass by Earth below the GEO Belt and crossing the equatorial plane from South to North -A closeup of the asteroid during its closest approach -A highlighted portion of Earth orbit that it is expected to pass through An interactive scenario is availa...

English: These are images of the LIVE broadcast from NASA on 15.02.2013 They show the asteroid named "2012 DA14" flyby with only 27,000km distance past the earth. A unique moment i think! Thank you goes to NASA for this unique pictures! Ein einmaliger Moment, wie ich denke! Ein großes Danke schön an die NASA für diese Bilder! http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv
2012 DA14 is an approximately 40 meter diameter asteroid that will make a close approach to Earth in early 2013. Contrary to some reports on the web, there is no danger of it hitting us during this encounter. This visualization shows the trajectory of the asteroid as computed by JPL's HORIZONS ephemeris service. As more observations of the 2012 DA14 are made, the trajectory may be revised.
Radar observations of asteroid 2012 DA14 generated from data obtained by NASA's Goldstone Solar System Radar on Feb. 15-16, 2013. During the observations, the space rock's distance increased from 74,000 to 195,000 miles (120,000 to 314,000 km) from Earth. The movie is comprised of 73 radar "images" (radar echoes) looped nine times. Resolution is 4 meters per pixel. Credit: NASA-JPL/Caltech

Pointin to the places that you want me to hit
Give me room all up in the womb, call the cops
