Lee and Daniel are taking a couple-episode break before jumping in to what will be an extensive Spaghetti Western series. For this episode they are joined by their friend, fellow podcaster, musician, and published writer Kit Power, who suggested the two films for review this time: "Tommy" (1975) & "Parents" (1989). Because this was recorded a bit later in the week and way much earlier in the day than what Lee and Dan are used to, the whisky hits them much harder. They fully blame Kit for this, BTW. At any rate, the conversation goes deep in to both films, and a lot of both fun and serious issues are brought up. This might be one of the best of all time for the podcast when it's all said and done, even if there's a few audio glitches here and there (sorry for that, but it's nowhere near un-listenable). Parents (film)
Parents is a 1989 American black comedy horror film directed by Bob Balaban and written by Christopher Hawthorne. It stars Randy Quaid, Mary Beth Hurt, Sandy Dennis and Bryan Madorsky.
Plot
Ten-year-old Michael Laemle has moved with his parents Nick and Lily from Massachusetts to a new neighborhood in 1954 suburbia. As Michael is very socially awkward and also has an overly active imagination, he has trouble making friends at school. He is also prone to extremely weird dreams, such as dreaming that he has jumped into bed- only for it to collapse into a pool of blood.
Emotionally distraught from the move and the dreams, Michael is traumatized by accidentally viewing his parents having sex (he believes that he is seeing them biting into one another) and by viewing his father cutting into a corpse in the Division of Human Testing at Toxico, where Nick is developing a chemical defoliant (like Agent Orange) for use in jungles. As time progresses, Michael begins to suspect that his parents are cannibals, after he discovers (or dreams that he discovers) body parts hanging on a meat hook in the basement. Michael is convinced that what he has seen is true, much to the chagrin of his school guidance counselor Millie Dew. One afternoon Millie goes home with Michael in order to convince him that he is imagining everything, only for the two of them to find a corpse in the basement. Michael runs up to his room while Millie, hiding in the pantry, is found and killed.

When high-flying businesswoman Jenny Pope is fired for punching a colleague, and, on the same day discovers that her unemployed husband Nick has squandered their life savings on an ill-conceived business scheme they, and their teenage children Sam and Becky, are forced to make a difficult decision. They have no choice but to move from London to the north and live with Jenny's parents Len and Alma. They see it as a temporary measure. But life won't prove to be that simple... Parents is a comedy about three generations of family living under one roof. Len and Alma, who thought they were free of children. Jenny and Nick, who thought they were free of parents. Sam and Becky, who now have to deal with two sets of parents with very different views on bringing up kids. It's a fast paced, laugh out loud comedy about a family at love and war.

Emily and Harry are bound for the small Irish village of Whitechurch to live with Mary and John Coleman and their five children. As practicing Catholics, their parenting is based on morality and tradition.
"Religion is a very clear cut, simple method in keeping yourself on the straight and narrow," Mary says. "You have to be strict in order to love your children properly."
But they'll have their work cut out for them with this week's naughty duo. Emily, 16, is meant to be attending TAFE but she spends most days sleeping, watching daytime TV and throwing wild parties. Earlier this year the Sydney-sider was busted for driving under the influence, without even having a license. "I got to high school and discovered make-up and hair straighteners and boys and drinking and that was more important than school work," she says.
And her companion, Harry, is quite a handful too. According to dad Robin, "Harry steals, he lies, he swears, he goes out and doesn't tell us where he's going. The Perth tearaway drinks, destroys property, puts holes in doors, rips gates off hinges." A few months ago he was even caught stealing a laptop from a teacher at school. After a string of explosive incidents he's now onto his third high school.
Will new rules and the taste of a different way of life change them for the better? Can they learn the error of their ways and turn their lives around before it's too late?

His wife Cassandra is an opera singer and music teacher. Teens Troy and Aza will spend a week with the McDonald's, living by a routine of strict religious beliefs and ultra conservative values.
Cassandra says, "You're not going to be a raunchy teenager that I can't stand. That's not happening here. I tell my students there are two 'L's' I don't deal with 'Lazy' and 'Liar.' If you're either one of them go study with someone else." The McDonald's have five adult children, and an 18-year-old foster son, Bryan. All of them were made to work and study hard. "From seventh grade on, they had to do their own laundry, cook, clean and iron," Cassandra says. "I'm nobody's maid." The McDonald's older children have earned a dozen university degrees between them.
"There's no drinking. No smoking," she says. "I'm not dealing with that because you're in my care and you represent me. Not you." For Troy and Aza, it's going to be a crash course in old school discipline. "When you blow it the first time, I don't trust you. And if I don't trust you, there's going to be limitations everywhere," Cassandra says. Troy and Aza aren't just facing a strict family. Ohio has some of the toughest laws in America. Even underage drinking can mean six months in jail. "I absolutely won't tolerate it," Cassandra says. "The most extreme punishment will be going to jail."

For a week they must live under the strict rules of two dads in the Loperleveille family. Dad Joe is a businessman and his partner Scott is a stay-at-home father, looking after their five boys, three adopted and two fostered. The dads believe that clear rules and honest communication is the key to successfully raising their family.
They have prepared a set of rules for the British teens to follow that includes no drinking, no drugs and going to bed early. The teens are also asked to take a drugs test, which causes Tamsin to question her past behaviour and the way she has treated her family.
Over the week the teens are strictly supervised. Wes starts work at a local deli and babysits a one-year-old boy. Can the dads teach Wesley to grow up and be a man, while teaching Tamsin to tell her mother the truth?
