Robert "Rob" Reiner (born March 6, 1947) is an American actor, director, producer, and activist. As an actor, Reiner first came to national prominence with the role of Michael Stivic, son-in-law of Archie and Edith Bunker (played by Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton), on All in the Family (1971–78). That role earned him two Emmy Awards during the 1970s. As a director, Reiner was recognized by the Directors Guild of America (DGA) with nominations for the coming of age comedy-drama film Stand by Me (1986), the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally... (1989), and the courtroom drama A Few Good Men (1992). He also directed the psychological horror-thriller Misery (1990), the romantic comedy fantasy adventure The Princess Bride (1987) and the heavy metal comedy-mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap (1984).
Reiner was born to a Jewish family in The Bronx, New York, and is the son of Estelle Reiner (née Lebost; 1914-2008), an actress, and Carl Reiner (1922–present), a renowned comedian, actor, writer, producer, and director. As a child, Reiner lived at 48 Bonnie Meadow Road in New Rochelle, New York; the home of the fictional Petrie family in The Dick Van Dyke Show, created by Rob's father, was 148 Bonnie Meadow Lane. He studied at the UCLA Film School.

Director and activist Rob Reiner unloaded on GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump on Sunday morning, comparing his campaign to the last gasp of the Confederacy fighting for white nationalism. Appearing on MSNBC’s AM Joy with host Joy Reid, the two watched a mash-up of clips from Trump’s speeches interspersed with the bigoted ramblings of All in the Family’s Archie Bunker, before noting the almost word-for-word similarities between the presidential nominee and television racist. Pointing out that racial issues that flared up in the ’60s and ’70s had become “submerged” since that time, Reiner took Trump to task for “giving a bullhorn to this racist idea.” “I believe that what we’ve done, what we’ve seen, is the last throes of the Civil War,” Reiner explained. “We’re fighting the last bat...

Director Reiner was the opening night special guest, KCET videotaped the interview. In the clip above, Reiner talks about the his tendency to make movies that aren't exactly studio-friendly. But despite the hesitation of studios, his films continue to be popular once they hit theaters. What is your favorite Rob Reiner directed flick?
Brzezinski Battles Rob Reiner: ‘You Act Like You Have Some Special Sauce’ to Get Trump to Answer Questions! Things Get Tense As Rob Reiner Spars With Brzezinski, Scarborough Over Trump Interview Tactics The director of the new film Being Charlie stopped by MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Thursday morning to promote his newest project, and while there decided to rib the show’s hosts for their previous handling of Donald Trump. Comedian Rob Reiner hit home the idea that the mainstream media in general has given far too many passes to Trump during difficult interviews, choosing not to hold the real estate mogul accountable for many of his conflicting responses. It was a claim that bothered both Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, and things got tense on the morning show as the conversation escalated...
