The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the public service broadcaster of the United Kingdom, headquartered at Broadcasting House in London.
The BBC is the world's oldest national broadcasting organisation and the largest broadcaster in the world by number of employees, with over 20,950 staff in total, of whom 16,672 are in public sector broadcasting; including part-time, flexible as well as fixed contract staff, the total number is 35,402.
The BBC is established under a Royal Charter and operates under its Agreement with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. Its work is funded principally by an annual television licence fee which is charged to all British households, companies, and organisations using any type of equipment to receive or record live television broadcasts. The fee is set by the British Government, agreed by Parliament, and used to fund the BBC's extensive radio, TV, and online services covering the nations and regions of the UK. From 1 April 2014, it also funds the BBC World Service, launched in 1932, which provides comprehensive TV, radio, and online services in Arabic, and Persian, and broadcasts in 28 languages.

Hear perspectives on this sensitive topic from leaders and practitioners around the globe. This special session will be recorded by the acclaimed Forum radio programme airing on the BBC World Service which reaches over 166 million globally. Audience members will be encouraged to engage with the guests and host, Bridget Kendall.
Social entrepreneurship is as much about business model innovation as it is about creating transformational approaches to address major social and environmental challenges. Hence, the financing models required to catalyse and support the diversity of such ventures necessitates reevaluating traditional philanthropy as well as current mainstream investment. Engage with experts who have successfully pioneered new forms of flexible financing for both legal charities and new profit-generating entities. You may be aware that this audio-only Gorillaz gig’s already been uploaded to YouTube, but I happened upon a high-quality soundboard recording of it and figured it was worth the share, since the only other known source was from a compressed, lossy web stream. A major disappointment in spite of the excellent quality, however, is that a handful of songs from the original set list were removed to accommodate its allotted time slot on Radio 1’s broadcast. Still, it’s definitely worth hearing, especially considering how little live Phase One content there is out there. 00:04. M1 A1 04:10. Tomorrow Comes Today 08:02. Slow Country 12:09. The Queensland Family Matters Forum was held in partnership with the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) in 2016. At the current rate of growth, it is projected that there will be 4000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care in Queensland by the end of 2016. Milbank Tweed Forum: A talk by Professor of Clinical Law Bryan Stevenson on his recently published book, Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption Followed by Q&A; moderated by Dean Trevor Morrison This event was co-sponsored by the Brennan Center for Justice “Just Mercy is every bit as moving as To Kill a Mockingbird, and in some ways more so. . . . [It] demonstrates, as powerfully as any book on criminal justice that I’ve ever read, the extent to which brutality, unfairness, and racial bias continue to infect criminal law in the United States. But at the same time that [Bryan] Stevenson tells an utterly damning story of deep-seated and widespread injustice, he also recounts instances of human compassion, understanding, mercy, and justice that offer hope. . . . Just Mercy is a rem...
With a growing number of states considering the legalization of medical marijuana and, more broadly, the decriminalization of recreational marijuana, this Forum event examined the public health pros and cons. What does science tell us about the benefits and risks of using marijuana? What are the economics at play? And what impact might decriminalization make on social justice? Presented in collaboration with Reuters. Watch the entire series from The Forum at Harvard School of Public Health at www.ForumHSPH.org.
