The Uzi (Hebrew: עוזי, officially cased as UZI) pronunciation: i/ˈuːzi/ is a family of Israeli open-bolt, blowback-operated submachine guns. Smaller variants are considered to be machine pistols. The Uzi was one of the first weapons to use a telescoping bolt design which allows the magazine to be housed in the pistol grip for a shorter weapon.
The first Uzi submachine gun was designed by Major Uziel Gal in the late 1940s. The prototype was finished in 1950. First introduced to IDF special forces in 1954, the weapon was placed into general issue two years later. The Uzi has found use as a personal defense weapon by rear-echelon troops, officers, artillery troops and tankers, as well as a frontline weapon by elite light infantry assault forces.
The Uzi has been exported to over 90 countries. Over its service lifetime, it has been manufactured by Israel Military Industries, FN Herstal, and other manufacturers. From the 1960s through the 1980s, more Uzi submachine guns were sold to more military, law enforcement and security markets than any other submachine gun ever made.
A submachine gun (SMG) is an air-cooled, magazine-fed, automatic carbine designed to fire pistol cartridges. The term "submachine gun" was coined by John T. Thompson, the inventor of the Thompson submachine gun.
The submachine gun was developed during World War I (1914–1918). At its zenith during World War II (1939–1945), millions of SMGs were made. After the war, new SMG designs appeared almost every week. However, by the 1980s, SMG usage decreased. Today, submachine guns have been largely replaced by assault rifles, which have a greater effective range and are capable of penetrating the helmets and body armor used by modern infantrymen. However, submachine guns are still widely used in the 2010s by police SWAT teams and other militarized police, because from a law enforcement perspective, submachine gun rounds are less likely to lead to overpenetration (going through walls) and causing unintentional injuries. In the 2010s, some military special forces, such as the Navy SEALs, still use submachine guns.
The famous Uzi 9mm SMG was introduced to the world in the 1950s, and was a huge hit that made its way into military and police armories around the world. With millions sold, the gun has been engaged in numerous conflicts and famously helped protect the life of President Reagan. The gun's proliferation is a result of the low cost, ease of manufacture, and merits as a fine submachine gun. In this episode of TFBTV, we take a look at what makes the Uzi deserving of its reputation as a great gun. Many THANKS to: Ventura Munitions: http://bit.ly/1LKxNRP Please Support Them! The video shows a submachine gun competition involving steel plate targets and no-shoot paper targets. It is a competition where the winning score possesses the shortest overall time. Instead of the usual video, I tried to have some fun with it by adding dramatic shots while editing to the pace of the music.
me shooting an uzi for the first time, this is my first time also to shoot an open bolt gun, the uzi pretty much a toy to me because of it almost not existent recoil which makes it wasy for me to one hand and make a first person view. and very nice firing rate i can't say the same thing for it's smaller version though such as the mini uzi and the micro uzi.
