Naivety

Naivety (or naïvety or naïveté) is the state of being naïve, that is to say, having or showing a lack of experience, understanding or sophistication, often in a context where one neglects pragmatism in favor of moral idealism. One who is naive may be called a naïf.

Etymology

In early use, the word naive meant "natural or innocent", and did not connote ineptitude. As a French adjective, it is spelled naïve or naïf. French adjectives have grammatical gender; naïf is used with masculine nouns and naïve with feminine nouns. The French noun is naïveté.

The dots above the i are a diaeresis (see also Ï). As an unitalicized English word, "naive" is now the more usual spelling, although "naïve" is unidiomatic rather than incorrect; "naïf" often represents the French masculine, but has a secondary meaning as an artistic style. “Naive” is now normally pronounced as two syllables, with the stress on the second, in the French manner.

The noun form can be written as naivety, naïvety, naïveté, naïvete, or naiveté.

Naïve (song)

"Naïve" is a song by British indie rock band The Kooks. It was released on 27 March 2006 as the fourth single from their debut studio album, Inside In/Inside Out (2006).

"Naïve" charted at number five on the UK Singles Chart. The best-selling single of the band's career, it was the UK's nineteenth best selling single of 2006. It also did relatively well in New Zealand, reaching number 15 on the combined sales/airplay RIANZ chart. The song additionally charted in the United States, peaking at number 22 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.

"Naïve" was featured on the soundtrack for the film 17 Again (2008) and on "Resolve", an episode of One Tree Hill, as well as on the show's third soundtrack, The Road Mix.

Lily Allen did a cover of "Naïve" for a live session on The Jo Whiley Show. Allen's version was featured on the soundtrack for the film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. The song has also been covered by former Sugababes member Mutya Buena as a B-side for her debut single "Real Girl". It placed at #87 in Triple J's Hottest 100 of the Past 20 Years (1993-2013), being one of a few songs to debut in the countdown without having made a yearly list beforehand.

Muse

The Muses /ˈmjuːzᵻz/ (Ancient Greek: Μοῦσαι Mousai; perhaps from the o-grade of the Proto-Indo-European root *men- "think") in Greek mythology are the goddesses of the inspiration of literature, science, and the arts. They were considered the source of the knowledge embodied in the poetry, song-lyrics, and myths that were related orally for centuries in these ancient cultures. They were later adopted by the Romans as a part of their pantheon.

In current English usage, "muse" can refer in general to a person who inspires an artist, writer, or musician.

Political allusions to the influential roles that the muse plays within the political sphere has also been referenced in current American literature.

Origins

The earliest known records of the Muses are from Boeotia, the homeland of Hesiod. Some ancient authorities thought that the Muses were of Thracian origin. There, a tradition persisted that the Muses had once been three in number. Diodorus Siculus quotes Hesiod to the contrary, observing:

Muse, Burma

Muse (Burmese: မူဆယ်, pronounced: [mùsʰɛ̀]) is the principal town of Muse Township also spelled as Mu Se Township in northern Shan State, Myanmar. It is situated on the Shweli River, and is connected by a bridge and road to Ruili (Shweli, [ʃwèlì], in Burmese) in Yunnan Province, China.

History

The old bridge dubbed the "Gun Bridge" by the locals on account of the frequent traffic of armaments from China to the military government of Burma was closed in 2005, replaced by a new bridge with a wider span and parallel to it.

Since 2014 the governments of Myanmar and China are seeking to resolve a border dispute in the area of Namkham and Muse.

Transport

Muse is today connected to Mandalay via Lashio by the National Highway 3 450 km Asian Highway route 14 (AH14), The old Burma Road links the new road to Bhamo in Kachin State which links to the Ledo Road. Mandalay-Lashio-Muse Road included part of the Burma Road and was rebuilt and upgraded for heavy traffic in 1998 on a Build-Operate-Transfer basis (BOT) by the Asia World Company headed by the son of the former opium warlord Lo Hsing Han. It has cut the journey time from 2 days, even a week in the rainy season, to just 12–16 hours. Muse is also connected to central Burma via the Mandalay-Lashio Northern Shan State Railway.
