WTTW, virtual channel 11 (UHF digital channel 47), is a PBS member television station and the primary PBS member station located in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The station is owned by not-for-profit broadcasting entity Window to the World Communications, Inc., and is sister to classical music radio station WFMT (98.7 FM). The two stations share studio facilities located at the Renée Crown Public Media Center on North Saint Louis Avenue (adjacent to Northeastern Illinois University) in the city's North Park neighborhood; WTTW maintains transmitter facilities located atop the Willis Tower on South Wacker Drive in the Chicago Loop. It also owns and operates The Chicago Production Center, a video production and editing facility that is operated alongside the two stations.
Serving as the local flagship outlet for the service, it is one of three PBS member stations in the Chicago market, alongside WYCC (channel 20) and Gary, Indiana-licensed WYIN (channel 56). WTTW, along with Wisconsin Public Television flagship station WHA-TV in Madison, Wisconsin, serve as default PBS member stations for Rockford as that market does not have a PBS station of its own; both stations are available in that market on local cable providers.

This is the **Original Upload**. The Museum of Classic Chicago Television (www.FuzzyMemories.TV) was the first to upload this bit of freaky Chicago TV history to YouTube in 2006 under our former account name. Visit the main site for more discussion and analysis of this oddity. During a broadcast of the Dr. Who episode "Horror of Fang Rock" on WTTW Chicago Channel 11, on Sunday November 22nd, 1987, at around 11:15pm, a Video "Pirate" wearing a Max Headroom mask broke into the signal and transmitted one of the weirdest, unauthorized things ever to hit the Chicago airwaves. Earlier in the evening on the same day, during the Nine O'Clock News on Channel 9 (Yes, a completely different channel) the Max Headroom Pirate also broke in - although it was for a much shorter time and there was no ...
PBS Kids Program Break Taken from PBS affiliate WTTW channel 11 in Chicago, Illinois on May 11, 2016 near 3:30 PM CDT on the WTTW Kids Block. Recorded on the Comcast/Xfinity Cable TV Service in Porter, IN.
On a late-November evening in 1987, two Chicago television stations were victims of a broadcast signal intrusion. After a brief intrusion during the sports report on WGN's 9:00 news, a later broadcast on channel 11 - PBS affiliate: WTTW - of the Doctor Who episode "Horror of Fang Rock" was interrupted by a man wearing a Max Headroom mask. The crazed person uttered mostly gibberish, crudely slammed the Chicago Tribune and its subsidiaries (WGN being one of them), and finally dropped his pants and was spanked by what appears to be a child with a flyswatter. 90-seconds later, the program returned to normal. To this day, he has never been caught. This was originally uploaded by the user "fuzzymemories" (now FuzzyMemoriesTV) in 2006. Please support the Museum of Classic Chicago Television! ...

Here's another of the promotional "image spots" for WTTW Channel 11 created by veteran Emmy-award-winning producer Rick Kotrba. There were a number of these; this is one example - set to the tune of "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis and features images from a number of WTTW programs at the time including Barney & Friends, Nature, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood and more shows than I feel like listing at this time. :-) The Window To The World image campaign, of which this is an example, won a local Emmy during the 1996-1997 season for Outstanding Achievement in the category of Announcements / Campaigns. I'll post more of these over time - they were all very good. This was produced and aired in 1995. About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television: The Museum of Classic Chicago Televisio...

Better be cool, you don't want no trouble
Keep it leanin' to the left
My gat stay cocked
I'm always super clean when you see me on the block
Keep my money in a knot with a rubberband on it
Blow to marijuana, know I got it if you want it
See me standin' on the corner, slangin' that crack

By then you got enough to buy a quarter ounce
You sellin' dimes to forty fiends buy it and bounce
Throw some money to your momma keep some food in the house
Cop the outfit and the Jordans on the day they came out
Betta get ya self a pistol know the jackers is out
Flip another seven grams, oh you hustlin' now
