Michael /ˈmaɪkəl/ is a male given name that comes from the Hebrew: מִיכָאֵל / מיכאל (Mīkhāʼēl, pronounced [miχaˈʔel]), derived from the question מי כאל mī kāʼēl, meaning "Who is like God?" (literally, "Who is like El?). In English, it is sometimes shortened to Mike, Mikey, Mickey, or Mick.
Female forms of Michael include Michelle, Michele, Michaela, Mechelle, Micheline, and Michaelle, although Michael is occasionally seen as a female name; women named Michael include actresses Michael Learned and Michael Michele. Another form is Mychal, which can either be a male or female name.
Patronymic surnames that come from Michael include Michaels, Carmichael, MacMichael, McMichael, Micallef, Michaelson, Mikkelsen, DiMichele, Mikhaylov, Mykhaylenko, Mikeladze, Michels, and Mitchell.
The name first appears in the Hebrew Bible in the Book of Numbers, 13:13 where Sethur the son of Michael is one of 12 spies sent into the Land of Canaan. The archangel Michael features in the Book of Daniel 12:1, and in the Qur'an as Mikhail.
Bogeyman (also spelled bogieman, boogeyman, or boogie man, and pronounced /bʊɡimæn/ or /boʊɡimæn/; see spelling differences) is a common allusion to a mythical creature in many cultures used by adults or older children to frighten children into good behavior. This monster has no specific appearance, and conceptions about it can vary drastically from household to household within the same community; in many cases, he has no set appearance in the mind of an adult or child, but is simply a non-specific embodiment of terror. Parents may tell their children that if they misbehave, the bogeyman will get them. Bogeymen may target a specific mischief—for instance, a bogeyman that punishes children who suck their thumbs—or general misbehaviour, depending on what purpose needs serving. In some cases, the bogeyman is a nickname for the devil. Bogeyman tales vary by region. The bogeyman is usually a masculine entity but can be any gender or simply androgynous.
The word bogey is believed to be derived from the Middle English bogge/bugge (hobgoblin) and is generally thought to be a cognate of the German bögge, böggel-mann (English "Bogeyman"). The word could also be linked to many similar words in other European languages: bogle (Scots), boeman (Dutch), Butzemann (German), busemann (Norwegian), bøhmand / bussemand (Danish), bòcan, púca, pooka or pookha (Irish), pwca, bwga or bwgan (Welsh), puki (Old Norse), pixie or piskie (Cornish), puck (English), mumus (Hungarian), bogu (Slavonic), buka (Russian, бука), bauk (Serbian), bubulis (Latvian), baubas (Lithuanian), bobo (Polish), bebok (Silesian), papão (Portuguese), торбалан (Bulgarian), Μπαμπούλας (Greek), bua (Georgian, ბუა), babau (Italian), baubau(Romanian) papu (Catalan).
The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, known mostly in the US as Lou Gehrig's Disease) and encourage donations to research. It went viral on social media during July–August 2014. In the US, many people participate for the ALS Association, and in the UK, many people participate for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, although some individuals have opted to donate their money from the Ice Bucket Challenge to other organizations.
The challenge encourages nominated participants to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads and then nominating others to do the same. A common stipulation is that nominated participants have 24 hours to comply or forfeit by way of a charitable financial donation.
On 1 August 2015, the ALS Association re-introduced the Ice Bucket Challenge for 2015 to raise further funds with the intention of establishing it as an annual occurrence.
A first date is any type of initial meeting between two individuals, whether or not previously acquainted, where an effort is made to ask, plan, and organize some sort of social activity. Dating can vary between cultures, lifestyles, religion, gender, and sexual orientation.
In many countries and cultures, it is the process that romantic relationships are developed and future spouses are found. Often, people are set up on dates by their friends, or they meet the individual at work, a party, in class or online.
The purpose of a first date is the same as the purpose of any date. Because they often set the tone for the relationship, first dates are highly important. As the study by Mary Claire Morr Serewicz of the Department of Human Communication Studies at the University of Denver, and Paul Mongeau of Arizona State University, states that first dates "represent an important early event in the development of dating relationship." For example, if a date doesn’t go according to one's standards, the couple might choose to only be platonically involved, which means having no romantic relationship. However, if the date was successful and both parties’ goals were accomplished a second date might be lined up. First dates represent potential relational turning points in an individual's life.
"I'm Your Boogie Man" is a song originally performed by KC and the Sunshine Band from their 1976 album Part 3.
Richard Finch said that the song was written about a DJ at a Miami, Florida radio station called Robert W. Walker, who was the first to give their hit single "Get Down Tonight" airplay. In 1977 the song reached the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 R&B Singles chart. Billboard ranked it as the No. 11 song of 1977. The song was also an international chart hit, reaching #1 in Canada and charting in Australia (#38), Belgium (#11), the Netherlands (#6), New Zealand (#12), and the UK (#41).
The song was sampled in at least one preview for all five of the Scary Movie films, as well as in the 2005 film Roll Bounce, the 2007 film Superbad and comic-to-film-adaptation Watchmen. It was also the opening song for the 1995 film The Last Supper.
White Zombie originally recorded a cover of "I'm Your Boogie Man" for the The Crow: City of Angels Soundtrack. However, since the song's release date, it has also appeared on Rob Zombie's greatest hits album Past, Present & Future and as a remixed version on the EP Supersexy Swingin' Sounds. The song is another different music style for the band as they are fusing disco with heavy metal. The audio samples in the song where children are heard saying "He's gonna get you! The Boogieman is coming!" are taken from the 1978 film Halloween which would later be remade in 2007 by Rob Zombie. The remixed version was also heard on a Halloween episode of the ABC television series 666 Park Avenue.

Something To Celebrate (written by Michael J. Sielaff, 2006) Why not? There are obligation toasts all the time at parties. Haphazardly stringing kind words together Hoping to shatter a looming aroma of guilt: Justification is needed for acquaintances to gather. And when the time finally arrives, Each click gradually adverts distracted attention to The nervously bold individual who realizes Some guests have better places to be. "Could I have your attention please..." Safe and unspecific improvised sentences Remind of why the forced gathering. Eyes stare through the toastmaster, Secretly hoping these words would Provide purpose for their presence. Feeling the pressure, The individual quickly runs out of things to say. After an uncomfortable second of silence, Relieved guests do ...

"In a battlefield... and I thought of you. How could I not tell you?" Okay, friends, here it is: my solo show. Today, six months after its closing, I look back on it with wonder, amusement, tenderness, and gratitude for every soul who made it possible and who came to see it. Little did I know the morning of May 23rd, 2014, that I was about to live one of the best days of my life. Ever-so-slightly greener to the idiosyncrasies of the so-called "real world," the girl who wrote and performed The Windows Are Also Helping captured the feeling of being on the cusp of a new kind of adulthood and left it here for this one to share and for you to enjoy half a year later. This is a show about self-discovery, about the experience of being a woman, and about getting to know your parents. This is a ...

The Lahore Arts Council on Sunday presented a message-oriented and thought-provoking stage play, Us Gali Na Jawin. The play, written and directed by Sarmad Sehabi, was a solo performance by the legendary TV and film actor, Shakeel. The play focused on themes of chaos, anxiety, poverty and terrorism rampant across the country, especially in Karachi. Shakeel played the role of an old man who had lost his memory, and wandered about the streets in old, dirty clothes. He talked to himself and to different imaginary people, birds, mountains and sky in order to express his feelings about the deplorable situation of his country. "The city of lights, peace and love has been turned into the city of smokes, blasts, and dead bodies," said the protagonist in one of his dialogues. There was a comp...

Flores takes us back to the 1990′s to capture the abrupt changes seen throughout the Mission District brought on by the dot-com boom and bust, the real estate bubble, constant immigration and forced evictions. Portraying a kaleidoscope of offbeat, vibrant characters, Flores gives voice to the techies looking to remodel the place, to the Latino bohemians wandering the bars and cafes, to locals and immigrants with a stake in the heart of San Francisco’s oldest neighborhood. Performed by Joe Cunningham (tenor sax), Christian Pincock (trombone), Andy Rayborn (baritone sax), John C. Savage (alto sax), Jonathan Sielaff (bass clarinet), and Evan Spacht (trombone). Comprising just 71 words, "Swell Piece" is one of ten short, mostly text and graphic compositions known as the “Postal Pieces” after the composer’s habit of sending them to friends on the backs of postcards. Dedicated to artist Alison Knowles, "Swell Piece" calls for an ensemble of any size larger than three, using any instruments, to play “one long tone after another,” beginning “as softly as possible, build[ing] up to a maximum intensity, then fad[ing] away again into (individual) silence.” Through the use of such a simple, unadorned, and unvarying musical structure, the work reaches beyond musical ar...
