Live from Tokyo (EP)

Live from Tokyo is a live EP by Japanese band Superfly, performed at the Shibuya Apple Store on June 6, 2007, and then released exclusively to the iTunes Store on June 27. It was one of the earliest Live from Tokyo albums released to the iTunes Store in Japan. It consists of covers of four rock songs from the late 1960s and early 1970s. The tracks (except for "Heart of Gold") were subsequently released as B-sides to the group's single "Hi-Five". All four songs are included on the second disc of the "Wildflower & Cover Songs: Complete Best 'Track 3'" single.

Live from Tokyo (album)

Live from Tokyo is the second live album by the country rock group The Flying Burrito Brothers, released in 1979. It was originally released in Japan in 1978 under the title Close Encounters on the West Coast.

History

After the release of Airborne and the subsequent dropping of the band by Columbia Records, the Flying Burrito Brothers pressed on as a touring act, taking a small break in 1977 so that Joel Scott Hill, Gib Guilbeau and "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow could release an album on Mercury Records under the name Sierra. After Sierra's eponymous debut album failed to achieve commercial success, Guilbeau, Hill, Kleinow and Sierra drummer Mickey McGee reunited with Skip Battin and Gene Parsons (playing guitar due to a wrist injury) and began to tour as the Flying Burrito Brothers again. By 1979, Greg Harris and Ed Ponder were hired to replace Joel Scott Hill and Mickey McGee respectively. During this time, Gene Parsons also left the group and was not replaced. This shuffled lineup of the band released Live from Tokyo on Tennessee-based Regency Records to public and critical indifference, however the album's single, a cover of Merle Haggard's "White Line Fever", reached the lower-end of the US country music charts (the first Burritos single ever to enter the charts). This would mark the beginning of a three-year stretch of commercial success for the band.

Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).

In 2008, Danny participated with the song in Polish Sopot International Song Festival

Chart performance

The song entered and peaked at #4 on Swedish Trackslistan on 24 February 2007 and charted for six weeks. The song peaked at #1 on the Swedish singles chart on 22 February 2007.

Tokyo (Athlete song)

"Tokyo" is a song by English indie rock band Athlete and is the third track on their 2007 album Beyond the Neighbourhood. The song was released as the second single from that album on November 19, 2007 (see 2007 in British music). The song charted at #198 making it Athlete's lowest charting single to date, partly due to a lack of promotion, and partly due to UK Chart guidelines discounting sales of the EP version (thus only sales of the 7" were counted).
