Hi! Time to test drive the 1949 Frazer that we started on last year; it's finally finished and plated and inspected and ready to go! This week we're only driving; there's nothing left to fix, and that is really exciting. I remember reading that Hollywood used to use Citroen station wagons as camera cars because they gave such a smooth, steady ride, so we decided to try using mine for the same reason! I'd like to thank Agents 7899 and 024 and Youtube follower Rene Jelles for donating their afternoons to this final video in the Frazer series... you guys are awesome.
I didn't keep track of the hours or cash that went into this project, but it certainly wasn't bad. I'm guessing I put maybe 2-3000 dollars and probably 250-350 hours into the car? I really don't know. I guess the idea was to see if you could build a reliable, safe daily driver out of a 1940's car that was abandoned in a field without spending much money or paying anyone to do any of the work. I would have to say that it was a success; the car has proven 100% reliable and has even been used to run errands in heavy city traffic a couple of times with no drama, other than having to work a little harder to keep up with the modern blobs. Mostly, I just use it to go visit friends out in the country where I live. It's a real time machine when you are alone on a 2-lane back road with no modern cars in sight to spoil the illusion.
Performance is adequate, considering the age of the car. The steep rear end gears allow for a reasonable bit of acceleration (don't rush the gear changes!) and the overdrive will let you maintain modest highway speeds. The limiting factor is the brakes; even though they are all new and work as well as they did in 1949, it is best to maintain a generous gap to the vehicle ahead at all times... No seat belts means you do not want to get brave or be in a hurry, ever!
I am very happy I decided not to upgrade any of the mechanical bits of the car. Part of the fun is keeping the car's 6-volt system, vacuum wipers, charging by generator, drum brakes, bias-ply tires, etc... It all worked ok in 1949, so why mess with it? The individual components of the car were of very high quality, and most of them needed little other than basic maintenance and cleaning to be made usable again.
Overall, a really fun and easy project. I hope you guys will join us for the next one; I think it'll be quite a bit of fun, and totally different from this Frazer. I noticed that people liked the parts of this series where we made our own parts, so there will definitely be a lot more of that coming up.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone who followed this project from start to finish, and also everyone who subscribed, "liked" our videos, and recommended them to their friends. Also, thank-you to everyone who commented and encouraged me to finish the car (and all the videos). I hear a lot that you would like more videos on my channel, and I am genuinely flattered. I will try to put up more, but they take a lot of time to do because I will usually do about 20 hours of work on the car and spend another 10 hours editing the footage to make a 12-minute video. Also, Stella is very demanding and insists on doing her scenes over and over again until they are perfect.
I will be putting the finishing touches on my new shop this week, and then I will be getting started on my next major project for Youtube. I was going to keep it a secret until it was done, but then I figured it would be more fun to share the build with you guys and make a series of it. I hope you guys like it; I am really looking forward to getting this one going. It's pretty crazy, that's all I can tell you.

"Will it Run?" Special: 1949 Frazer Daily Driver Project! Week 13
Hi! Time to test drive the 1949 Frazer that we started on last year; it's finally finished and plated and inspected and ready to go! This week we're only driving; there's nothing left to fix, and that is really exciting. I remember reading that Hollywood used to use Citroen station wagons as camera cars because they gave such a smooth, steady ride, so we decided to try using mine for the same reason! I'd like to thank Agents 7899 and 024 and Youtube follower Rene Jelles for donating their afternoons to this final video in the Frazer series... you guys are awesome. I didn't keep track of the hours or cash that went into this project, but it certainly wasn't bad. I'm guessing I put maybe 2-3000 dollars and probably 250-350 hours into the car? I really don't know. I guess the idea was to s...

Hi! Time to test drive the 1949 Frazer that we started on last year; it's finally finished and plated and inspected and ready to go! This week we're only driving; there's nothing left to fix, and that is really exciting. I remember reading that Hollywood used to use Citroen station wagons as camera cars because they gave such a smooth, steady ride, so we decided to try using mine for the same reason! I'd like to thank Agents 7899 and 024 and Youtube follower Rene Jelles for donating their afternoons to this final video in the Frazer series... you guys are awesome.
I didn't keep track of the hours or cash that went into this project, but it certainly wasn't bad. I'm guessing I put maybe 2-3000 dollars and probably 250-350 hours into the car? I really don't know. I guess the idea was to see if you could build a reliable, safe daily driver out of a 1940's car that was abandoned in a field without spending much money or paying anyone to do any of the work. I would have to say that it was a success; the car has proven 100% reliable and has even been used to run errands in heavy city traffic a couple of times with no drama, other than having to work a little harder to keep up with the modern blobs. Mostly, I just use it to go visit friends out in the country where I live. It's a real time machine when you are alone on a 2-lane back road with no modern cars in sight to spoil the illusion.
Performance is adequate, considering the age of the car. The steep rear end gears allow for a reasonable bit of acceleration (don't rush the gear changes!) and the overdrive will let you maintain modest highway speeds. The limiting factor is the brakes; even though they are all new and work as well as they did in 1949, it is best to maintain a generous gap to the vehicle ahead at all times... No seat belts means you do not want to get brave or be in a hurry, ever!
I am very happy I decided not to upgrade any of the mechanical bits of the car. Part of the fun is keeping the car's 6-volt system, vacuum wipers, charging by generator, drum brakes, bias-ply tires, etc... It all worked ok in 1949, so why mess with it? The individual components of the car were of very high quality, and most of them needed little other than basic maintenance and cleaning to be made usable again.
Overall, a really fun and easy project. I hope you guys will join us for the next one; I think it'll be quite a bit of fun, and totally different from this Frazer. I noticed that people liked the parts of this series where we made our own parts, so there will definitely be a lot more of that coming up.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone who followed this project from start to finish, and also everyone who subscribed, "liked" our videos, and recommended them to their friends. Also, thank-you to everyone who commented and encouraged me to finish the car (and all the videos). I hear a lot that you would like more videos on my channel, and I am genuinely flattered. I will try to put up more, but they take a lot of time to do because I will usually do about 20 hours of work on the car and spend another 10 hours editing the footage to make a 12-minute video. Also, Stella is very demanding and insists on doing her scenes over and over again until they are perfect.
I will be putting the finishing touches on my new shop this week, and then I will be getting started on my next major project for Youtube. I was going to keep it a secret until it was done, but then I figured it would be more fun to share the build with you guys and make a series of it. I hope you guys like it; I am really looking forward to getting this one going. It's pretty crazy, that's all I can tell you.
