LOS ANGELES — A former gymnast on the United States women’s national team has become the latest athlete to accuse a team doctor of sexual abuse.
The lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles accuses Dr. Larry Nassar of repeatedly sexually abusing the gymnast, who is now 24 years old, when she was on the team from 2006 to 2011.
Nassar’s lawyer did not respond to messages Thursday, but he has previously denied abuse allegations by two other gymnasts.
The lawsuit is the first against Nassar to name the renowned national team leaders Bela and Martha Karolyi. The suit alleges that the Karolyis knew of abuse allegations against Nassar before and during his employment, “yet chose to allow him to remain unsupervised.”
The Karolyis did not respond to requests for comment. U.S.A. Gymnastics, which is also named in the suit, denies wrongdoing.
