Cannabis is legal and a storm is headed to Portland on Saturday. That means you have the perfect excuse to hunker down indoors with some snacks and, if the electricity doesn't go out, Netflix, and relax with some marijuana. Of course, make sure your emergency kit is ready. And probably have a book handy if the power doesn't make it.
We asked some experts from local dispensaries what strains they would suggest for an indoor weekend. Here's what they had to say.
1. Durban Poison crossed with OG Kush
This strain used to be called something else before the OLCC changed the naming rules about cannabis strains that reference things kids might like.
Brennan Donnelly, manager at the westside Five Zero Trees, says this strain is "strong," which definitely means something coming from the manager of dispensary.
"It's the strongest most sedative, grab a blanket, watch some Netflix, don't leave the house-type of strain we've got," he told us.
This strain is 28.67 percent THC and .08 percent CBD.
2. Granddaddy Purple
Donnelly suggests the pure Indica "old school Grandaddy Purple" for people who want to get some serious relaxation and then deep sleep during a windstorm. Bonus? "Fruity hints."
This strain is 23.14 percent THC and 0 percent CBD.
3. One Star
This Indica dominant hybrid isn't as strong as Donnelly's other suggestions and is better for people looking to get a little work done during the storm.
"You'll be able to get out and stack your wood in the rain," Donnelly said.
This strain is 25.44 percent THC and 1.27 percent CBD.
4. Gorilla Glue #4
Valerie Roszina, budtender Treehouse Collective, told us this strain is good for its various properties. "It's chill and relaxing," she said, "but still gives you a head high if you are doing some activities around the house."
This strain is 29.8 percent THC and .8 percent CBD.
5. White Fire
If you're looking for something a little more relaxing than uplifting, Roszina suggested White Fire. "It's good for watching some movies," she said, "and munching on some good food."
This strain is 29.6 percent THC and 4.34 percent CBD.
6. XJ-13
Sarah Wittrock, manager at Collective Awakenings, told us that this strain is good for people who want to put the indoor day to good use. It'll give you "a little bit of energy to keep you going," she said. "It'll help you stay energetic and clean the house."
This strain is 22.61 percent THC and .84 percent CBD.
7. Jack Herer
Wittrock said this strain is similar to XJ-13 but even more energetic. "It's nice and euphoric and peppy for the gloomy weather," she said.
This strain is 21.13 percent THC and 1.75 percent CBD.
8. DS X Cherry Pie
Wittrock suggested this "fun, flavorful hybrid" for anyone who wanted to "get kind of giggly, watch a movie, get creative."
You can ask yourself what the "DS" stands for...
This strain is 26.94 percent THC and 1.84 percent CBD.
9. Harley Sin
If you want a high CBD strain to help you get through the storm, Wittrock suggests this one. "If the storms scare you at all," she said, "this strain is really good for anxiety."
Also, because of the high CBD content, it will allow you to function while helping you relax and easing your muscle aches and pains.
This strain is 5.9 percent THC and 11.2 percent CBD.
