An Animation Research Ltd animation, originally in stereoscopic 3D, which screened daily in the 'Waka Maori' pavilion (Auckland, New Zealand) during the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Starting with a version of the Maori Creation myth we then see the Sky Father and Earth Mother separated, before joining Maui and his brothers on a fishing trip which culminates in the catch of the North Island of New Zealand. Aoraki and his brothers also go on a sea voyage, and this results in the formation of the South Island. The final voyage is to Auckland, and the Waka Maori pavilion itself.
The voiceover is by the awesome George Henare, from a script by John Broughton. Client: Te Mangai Paho

Kahului is the largest census-designated place (CDP) on the island with a population of 26,337 as of 2010 and is the commercial and financial hub of the island.Wailuku is the seat of Maui County and is the third-largest CDP as of 2010. Other significant places include Kīhei (including Wailea and Makena in the Kihei Town CDP, which is the second-most-populated CDP in Maui); Lahaina (including Kāʻanapali and Kapalua in the Lahaina Town CDP); Makawao; Pāʻia; Kula; Haʻikū; and Hāna.
Name
Native Hawaiian tradition gives the origin of the island's name in the legend of Hawaiʻiloa, the navigator credited with discovery of the Hawaiian Islands. According to that legend, Hawaiʻiloa named the island of Maui after his son, who in turn was named for the demigod Māui. The earlier name of Maui was ʻIhikapalaumaewa. The Island of Maui is also called the "Valley Isle" for the large isthmus between its northwestern and southeastern volcanoes and the numerous large valleys carved into both mountains.

Dwayne Johnson
Dwayne Douglas Johnson (born May 2, 1972), also known by his ring name The Rock, is an American and Canadian actor, producer and semi-retired professional wrestler, signed with WWE. Johnson was a college football player for the University of Miami, winning a national championship on the 1991 Miami Hurricanes football team. He later played for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League, and was cut two months into the 1995 season. This led him to become a professional wrestler like his grandfather, Peter Maivia, and his father, Rocky Johnson (from whom he also inherited his Canadian citizenship). Through Maivia he is considered a non-blood relative of the Anoa'i wrestling family.
Originally billed as "Rocky Maivia", he gained mainstream fame in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF/E) from 1996 to 2004 as a major figure in the company's Attitude Era, and was the first third-generation wrestler in the company's history. He returned to wrestling part-time for WWE from 2011 to 2013 and continues to make sporadic non-wrestling appearances for the company. The Rock has had seventeen championship reigns in WWE, including ten as a world champion, winning the WWF/E Championship eight times and the WCW/World Championship twice. WWE.com described him as a 10-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He won the Intercontinental Championship twice and the WWF Tag Team Championship five times. He is the sixth Triple Crown Champion in WWE history, and won the 2000 Royal Rumble. The Rock was instrumental in helping the organization win the ratings war against the World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

Tales from the mythologies of Creation, Maui and Aoraki
An Animation Research Ltd animation, originally in stereoscopic 3D, which screened daily in the 'Waka Maori' pavilion (Auckland, New Zealand) during the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Starting with a version of the Maori Creation myth we then see the Sky Father and Earth Mother separated, before joining Maui and his brothers on a fishing trip which culminates in the catch of the North Island of New Zealand. Aoraki and his brothers also go on a sea voyage, and this results in the formation of the South Island. The final voyage is to Auckland, and the Waka Maori pavilion itself. The voiceover is by the awesome George Henare, from a script by John Broughton. Client: Te Mangai Paho

In this travel video guide to Maui, Hawaii, I travel to Maui and start off by heading to Haleakalā National Park to watch the sunrise from the highest volcano in Maui. In this travel video guide to Maui, Hawaii, I travel to Maui and start off by heading to Haleakalā National Park to watch the sunrise from the highest volcano in Maui. On this part of the island, clouds form at the base of the volcano, and as the sun rises, a myriad of colors form and provide an unforgettable visual experience.
Next I throw on a wet suit and hit the waves to learn how to surf -- my first time ever. Though I've ridden the New York City subway after happy hour before, I was still a little unsure about how my balance would be on a surfboard. Luckily, the surf instructor had a black labrador dog out on her board with us in case anything went terribly wrong.
Finally, I wrap up the day by heading to the beach with a ukulele to have a jam session with a local Maui resident and ukulele player, where we jam out to some Bob Marley as the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, framed by the nearby islands of Moloka'i and Lana'i.
I then travel to Paia, the small, laid-back beach town on the northern coast of Maui, to track down the famed breakfast dish called the Loco Moco (rice, brown gravy and a hamburger patty topped with a fried egg).
Next I head north on the Hana Highway and take a hike into the lush forest to take a dip at Twin Falls, a small water hole in the middle of the forest fed by two island waterfalls. If this isn't classic Hawaii, then I don't know what is.
After picking up my friends at the airport, we jump onto a helicopter(!) to take an aerial tour of Maui and nearby Moloka'i. From this vantage point we visit dramatic sea cliffs up close and explore the interior portions of the islands -- places that few people ever see.
I started off my third day there by heading back up the side of Haleakala Volcano, then lunging my body of the side of the hillside (okay, I was paragliding). As I floated thousands of feet above ground, I was given a unique viewpoint of the island, and even lived to tell about it (and make this video).
Next I head out onto the open water on a sailing outrigger canoe (a canoe with a lateral support on its side in traditional Polynesian fashion), and take to the water to go snorkeling, which included a couple sea turtle sightings.
I then finish up the day with fish tacos at Coconut's (which, to this day, are probably some of the best fish tacos I've ever had), and shave ice for dessert, the classic Hawaii dessert consisting of shaved ice inundated with flavored syrups.
I decide to get a little high culture in and head to Ulupalakua Winery and Ranch, where I sample some pineapple wine (what else?), then head across the street to the Western-themed country store for elk burgers for lunch.
Then I pick up my friends and head north to Honolua Bay to hike in the nearby forest (and maybe get lost a bit), then visit a hillside that overlooks Honolua Bay, where you can park your car and watch some of the best surfers in the world who come here to surf one of the world's best surfing spots.
Finally, I travel to the Surfing Goat Dairy Farm, Maui's premiere (and only goat farm), where I am put to work feeding and milking the goats, and rewarded with an artisanal goat cheese tasting.
Then, with my trip coming to a close, I head to the nondescript restaurant Da Kitchen, one of the best places to try out classic Hawaiian cuisine, including Kahlua Pork, Teriyaki Chicken and of course, Spam.
Finally, I wrap up by providing my thoughts about the island. Be forewarned, sentimentality and reflection ensue.

The ukulele is commonly associated with music from Hawaii where the name roughly translates as "jumping flea", perhaps because of the movement of the player's fingers. Legend attributes it to the nickname of the Englishman Edward William Purvis, one of King Kalākaua's officers, because of his small size, fidgety manner, and playing expertise. This Hawaii trip was 14 days with 12 days on Maui and 2 days on Oahu. On Maui, we stayed in Wailea as we really enjoy south Maui. However, Napili beach is especially beautiful.
On Oahu, we are partial to the North Shore and Haleiwa. For quality ukulele's, visit The Ukulele Site - Hawaii Music Supply in Haleiwa. I love the vibe of the Pipeline and could sit on that beach for hours. Shark's Cove is great for some waist deep snorkeling. You'd be surprised by the amount of fish that get washed into there. Perfect for younger kids. Just be careful stepping on the lava rock! When returning to Maui, we enjoy riding around Oahu making our way back to the airport.
Regarding the drone, I was surprised by the amount of people that approached me while flying it. All were very receptive, inquisitive and amazed at the drone's capabilities. I enjoyed sharing my limited experience. I mentioned to everyone regarding my FAA registration which I believe to be a good thing. People are more at ease knowing we are registered and have FAA rules to follow.

Legend attributes it to the nickname of the Englishman Edward William Purvis, one of King Kalākaua's officers, because of his small size, fidgety manner, and playing expertise. According to Queen Liliʻuokalani, the last Hawaiian monarch, the name means “the gift that came here,” from the Hawaiian words uku (gift or reward) and lele (to come).
Developed in the 1880s, the ukulele is based on several small guitar-like instruments of Portuguese origin, the machete, the cavaquinho, the timple and the rajão, introduced to the Hawaiian Islands by Portuguese immigrants from Madeira and Cape Verde.[Three immigrants in particular, Madeiran cabinet makers Manuel Nunes, José do Espírito Santo, and Augusto Dias, are generally credited as the first ukulele makers. Two weeks after they disembarked from the SS Ravenscrag in late August 1879, the Hawaiian Gazette reported that "Madeira Islanders recently arrived here, have been delighting the people with nightly street concerts."
One of the most important factors in establishing the ukulele in Hawaiian music and culture was the ardent support and promotion of the instrument by King Kalākaua. A patron of the arts, he incorporated it into performances at royal gatherings.
