An operating system is software that lays between the application layer and the hardware layer. This allows application developers to have a consistent platform to build apps for. All the app has to do is communicate with the OS (operating system) and the OS worries about communicating with all of the hardware.
We can ignore specific details of how things work by viewing this as an abstraction. We can also layer these things by displaying them in a way that represents how they are designed. In the late 1960s, Bell Laboratories computer scientists Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson started work on a project that was inspired by an operating system called Multics, a joint project of MIT, GE, and Bell Labs. The host and narrator of this film, Victor Vyssotsky, also had worked on the Multics project. Ritchie and Thompson, recognizing some of the problems with the Multics OS, set out to create a more useful, flexible, and portable system for programmers to work with.
What's fascinating about the growth of UNIX is the long amount of time that it was given to develop, almost organically, and based on the needs of the users and programmers. The first installation of the program was done as late as 1972 (on a NY Telephone branch computer). It was in conjunction with the refinement of the C programming language, principally designed by Dennis Ritchie.
Because the Bell System had limitations placed by the government that prevented them from selling software, UNIX was made available under license to universities and the government. This helped further its development, as well as making it a more "open" system.
This film "The UNIX System: Making Computers More Productive", is one of two that Bell Labs made in 1982 about UNIX's significance, impact and usability. Even 10 years after its first installation, it's still an introduction to the system. The other film, "The UNIX System: Making Computers Easier to Use", is roughly the same, only a little shorter. The former film was geared towards software developers and computer science students, the latter towards programmers specifically.
The film contains interviews with primary developers Ritchie, Thompson, Brian Kernighan, and many others.
While widespread use of UNIX has waned, most modern operating systems have at least a conceptual foundation in UNIX.

An operating system (OS) is a set of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is a vital component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs require an operating system to function.
Time-sharing operating systems schedule tasks for efficient use of the system and may also include accounting for cost allocation of processor time, mass storage, printing, and other resources.
For hardware functions such as input and output and memory allocation, the operating system acts as an intermediary between programs and the computer hardware, although the application code is usually executed directly by the hardware and will frequently make a system call to an OS function or be interrupted by it. Operating systems can be found on almost any device that contains a computer—from cellular phones and video game consoles to supercomputers and web servers.
Examples of popular modern operating systems include Android, BSD, iOS, GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows,Windows Phone, and IBM z/OS. All these, except Windows and z/OS, share roots in UNIX.

Terence Kemp McKenna (November 16, 1946 – April 3, 2000) was an American philosopher, psychonaut, researcher, teacher, lecturer and writer on many subjects, such as human consciousness, language, psychedelic drugs, the evolution of civilizations, the origin and end of the universe, alchemy, and extraterrestrial beings.
Terence McKenna grew up in Paonia, Colorado. He was introduced to geology through his uncle and developed a hobby of solitary fossil hunting in the arroyos near his home. From this he developed a deep artistic and scientific appreciation of nature.
At age 16, McKenna moved to Los Altos, California to live with family friends for a year. He finished high school in Lancaster, CA. In 1963, McKenna was introduced to the literary world of psychedelics through The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell by Aldous Huxley and certain issues of The Village Voice that talked about psychedelics.
McKenna claimed that one of his early psychedelic experiences with morning glory seeds showed him "that there was something there worth pursuing." In an audio interview Terence Mckenna claims to have started smoking cannabis regularly during the summer following his 17th birthday.

Things to remember: -40gb in the new partition -Same "Bit" (32bit or 64bit) Steps: 1. Go to start 2. Right click computer and choose Manage 3. Under storage to go Disk Management 4. Right Click the Hard Drive you want to partition (Usally the "C:" drive) and click Shrink Volume 5. Shrink it to 40000MB (40GB) 6. Choose any Drive letter you want and click next on everything 7. Turn Off you computer 8. Boot up the Operating system 9. Install the OS 10. After the first restart do not press Any key until the Installation ask you for a User Name and ETC. 11. Congratulations! What's fascinating about the growth of UNIX is the long amount of time that it was given to develop, almost organically, and based on the needs of the users and programmers. The first installation of the program was done as late as 1972 (on a NY Telephone branch computer). It was in conjunction with the refinement of the C programming language, principally designed by Dennis Ritchie.
Because the Bell System had limitations placed by the government that prevented them from selling software, UNIX was made available under license to universities and the government. This helped further its development, as well as making it a more "open" system.
This film "The UNIX System: Making Computers More Productive", is one of two that Bell Labs made in 1982 about UNIX's significance, impact and usability. Even 10 years after its first installation, it's still an introduction to the system. The other film, "The UNIX System: Making Computers Easier to Use", is roughly the same, only a little shorter. The former film was geared towards software developers and computer science students, the latter towards programmers specifically.
The film contains interviews with primary developers Ritchie, Thompson, Brian Kernighan, and many others.
While widespread use of UNIX has waned, most modern operating systems have at least a conceptual foundation in UNIX.

Because the Bell System had limitations placed by the government that prevented them from selling software, UNIX was made available under license to universities and the government. This helped further its development, as well as making it a more "open" system.
This film "The UNIX System: Making Computers More Productive", is one of two that Bell Labs made in 1982 about UNIX's significance, impact and usability. Even 10 years after its first installation, it's still an introduction to the system. The other film, "The UNIX System: Making Computers Easier to Use", is roughly the same, only a little shorter. The former film was geared towards software developers and computer science students, the latter towards programmers specifically.
The film contains interviews with primary developers Ritchie, Thompson, Brian Kernighan, and many others.
While widespread use of UNIX has waned, most modern operating systems have at least a conceptual foundation in UNIX.

Today im going to show you on how to have/install dual (multiple) Operating Systems in one hard drive.
Things to remember:
-40gb in the new partition
-Same "Bit" (32bit or 64bit)
Steps:
1. Go to start
2. Right click computer and choose Manage

Mayday is an application developed over the RestComm platform, which provides features such as audio/video call, chat, annotation and co-browsing. The application supports iOS & Android operating systems and the Web. The demonstration of this application is implemented using an e-commerce electronic store application, where the use of Mayday application has been conceptualized.
SPAN’s team implemented Mayday app in such a way that it can be integrated with any other application easily by importing three classes. By doing so, you can enable Mayday features on your Android, iOS and web applications. Web application implementation involves using a widget, which does not impose any particular UI requirement. It can adapt to any web user interface.
The agent side view is also developed by SPAN in Android, iOS and the web. While receiving a call from a customer, the agent can view the dynamic contextual information about the customer. With this, an agent can resolve customer’s problems efficiently.
SPAN’s team also made efficient use of the data channel, which is used to facilitate the PDF sharing feature. Using the app, a customer or an agent can share the PDF and navigate easily enabling the same page to be displayed on the opposite end. This will help an agent to share a user manual or setup document and guide the customer in solving their problems according to the manual.
Another important feature that has been included in the application is called co-browsing. This is one of the crucial features of the application wherein the agent can access the customer’s screen and co-browse as well as highlight certain sections on the display from his side. This facility clearly explains the problem solution to the customers in a better manner and solves the issue faced appropriately.
