Tai and I have been talking about having a song from the idea of Offerings. This song soon came to me. It comes from the realization that everything that any of us have is ultimately from God. To even say we are giving our lives to Him is in some ways being naïve because they belong to Him anyway. Ive often said that its amazing we as sinful people dont want God, but we need Him. Offering at the Elphinstone Forest: Gaia's Lullaby
Today I visited the Elphinstone Forest and the folks at the blockade protesting the logging of the old growth forests. I played my piece, Gaia's Lullaby dedicated to the healing of forest mother Earth and spirits of the ancestors. I hope everyone is safe and protected from any negativity from the conflicts.

ANOKA, Minn. -- District 11 is taking steps outside the classroom to make sure more students succeed in school. Thanks to a grant from the Anoka-Hennepin Educational Foundation, the district has purchased dozens of Wi-Fi hotspots for students who don't have internet access at home. “Part of the mission of our foundation is to really level the playing field to make sure that our students have equal access and ability to maximize their potential,” Anoka-Hennepin Educational Foundation Executive Director Tess DeGeest said. Thanks to a grant from the Anoka-Hennepin Educational Foundation, the district has purchased dozens of Wi-Fi hotspots for students who don't have internet access at home.
“Part of the mission of our foundation is to really level the playing field to make sure that our students have equal access and ability to maximize their potential,” Anoka-Hennepin Educational Foundation Executive Director Tess DeGeest said.
A college readiness program for students lacking resources recently taught District 11 a valuable lesson. Students checked out laptops, but barriers still remained.
“Some of them didn't have access to wireless at home,” DeGeest said.
She said a recent survey showed two percent of students district-wide don't use the internet at home at least once a week. DeGeest said she suspects those students don't have access.
Two percent might not sound like much, but for the largest school district in the state, that's 234 high school students and 41 at Coon Rapids High School alone without home internet access, if that percentage is consistent.
“It really puts them at a significant disadvantage,” DeGeest said.
A new program launching this fall will try to close that gap. The Educational Foundation is investing more than $11,000 in Wi-Fi hotspots, which, paired with laptops, will allow students to access the internet at their home for free.
“It's so affirming to know that we can make this kind of difference,” DeGeest said.
“This is another way of us to give their students and children an opportunity to have that any time, anywhere learning,” District 11 director of technology and information services Michelle VanDenTop said.
Thirty-three hotspots will be available, with five at each traditional high school and two for each alternative school, starting in early Nov., she said.
“What we're really excited about is that we can provide this in their home, in a setting that's comfortable to them and opens up new learning to take place,” VanDenTop said.
DeGeest said after the initial trial run this school year, the district could buy more hotspots for students or change how many each school has depending on the need.
