Şarkı

A şarkı is an art song in Ottoman classical music which forms one of the movements of a fasıl (suite). It is performed with an usul (metric structure). This kind of song is rarely performed today. In modern Turkish, şarkı is the common word for any song, Turkish or foreign.

ARC (file format)

ARC is a lossless data compression and archival format by System Enhancement Associates (SEA). It was very popular during the early days of networked dial-up BBS. The file format and the program were both called ARC. The ARC program made obsolete the previous use of a combination of the SQ program to compress files and the LU program to create .LBR archives, by combining both compression and archiving functions into a single program. Unlike ZIP, ARC is incapable of compressing entire directory trees. The format was subject to controversy in the 1980s—an important event in debates over what would later be known as open formats.

The .arc file extension is often used for several file archive-like file types. For example, the Internet Archive uses its own ARC format to store multiple web resources into a single file. The FreeArc archiver also uses .arc extension, but uses a completely different file format.

Nintendo uses an unrelated 'ARC' format for resources, such as MIDI, voice samples, or text, in GameCube and Wii games. Several unofficial extractors exist for this type of ARC file.

Ark (2005 film)

Ark is a 2005 computer-generated imagery film directed by Kenny Hwang, animated by Digital Rim. It is the flagship project for both the director and the studio.

Attempting to address the failures of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, the film is an attempt to merge anime-style visuals with a faster, action-oriented plot more palatable to Western audiences.

The film's plot features many archetypes taken from Final Fantasy-style Japanese console RPGs; a young male resistance fighter, a young girl with special powers who unknowingly is her planet's Messiah, an evil "right-hand man", and a small, cute pet mascot.

Plot

Ark takes place on a dying alien world in which a global war between two technologically advanced human civilizations has reduced the planet to a wasteland. The only way to escape the world is by activating the Ark, an ancient giant robot capable of supporting a human city as well as traveling through space.

James Woods plays Jallak, the military general of the reigning civilization, the Storrians, who captured the Ark from the Ceveans. But they are unable to get the Ark to work in order to save their people. The Ceveans, having been enslaved and with only the wasteland to roam free are constantly attacked and brutalised by the Storrians. A leader of their resistance movement is a young resistance fighter named Rogan. Rogan is arrested during a resistance uprising, but manages to escape. He bumps into the general's adopted daughter Amarinth, whom the general had secretly rescued from a Cevean hibernation pod cluster where they had hidden their children for safety. They then meet again during a civilian protest rally and she offers to help hide him and tend to his wounds. Rogan goes with her back to her apartment and meets her pet JuJu, but then vanishes when he discovers she's the Storrian general's daughter.

Survival (band)

Survival is a Dutch Progressive / Symphonic rock band/project, initiated in 1981 by keyboard player & composer Jack Langevelt. Inspired by classic bands like Trace, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Ekseption, The Nice, Camel, Procol Harum and Deep Purple. The sound of Survival is characterized by strong dynamic melodies with odd time signatures and epic themes. Survival existed as a band between 1981 and 1997, although Jack continued making music under the name Survival.

In 2008 Survival arose from its ashes and released their first official album Crusader on Musea Records. This all instrumental Album, with guest appearances by David Dexter and Mario Roelofsen on guitar, was composed, recorded and produced by Jack Langevelt and received very positive reviews. Presently (2013) Survival is back again in a new line up, with (Inez van der Linden) as new Manager(known for Rick van der Linden/Ekseption/Trace)and a new Bookings Agency.

Science Horizons Survival

Science Horizons Survival is a ZX Spectrum computer game developed by Five Ways Software. It was published by Sinclair Research in association with Macmillan Education in 1984. It is an educational game in which the player takes on the role of one of a series of animals, and had to find food to survive while avoiding predators.

Development

Survival was developed as part of a series of educational software aimed at children aged between 5 and 12. This "Science Horizons" series was instigated by Sir Clive Sinclair and ex-prime minister Harold Macmillan.

Gameplay

The aim was to teach users about food chains; as an insect life is short, with the constant danger of being eaten by a bird - but as an eagle the player is at the top of the food chain with mankind or starvation as the only dangers.

The simulation allows the player to be one of six animals: a hawk, a robin , a lion, a mouse, a fly or a butterfly. The world appears in scrolling grid form, with ice caps to the north and south. The player moves one square at a time, with visibility depending on the chosen animal, avoiding predators and find food and water. The game ends when the animal dies, either through starvation, dehydration, being killed by a predator, or old age.

Survival (journal)

Survival is a scholarly international studies journal of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the British international affairs research institute. It is published by Routledge and has six issues a year.

According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2013 impact factor of 0.42, ranking it 108th out of 157 journals in the category Political Science.
