Spot (producer)

Spot, (born Glen Lockett in 1951), is a record producer best known for being the house producer and engineer for the influential independent punk record label SST Records. He recorded, mixed, produced or co-produced most of SST's pivotal acts between 1979 and 1985. He is credited on albums by such notable bands as Black Flag, Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Hüsker Dü, Saint Vitus, Descendents, Minor Threat, Misfits, Big Boys and The Dicks. Spot has also produced several acts outside of SST and started his own label, No Auditions, in 1987. An accomplished musician and multi-instrumentalist, Spot later retired from producing to concentrate on performing, releasing his own material on No Auditions and, in 2000, on Upland Records (a label owned by former members of Descendents). He also played fidola on This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb's "Dance Party With...".

Background

The eldest son of Jamaican and Guyanese parents, SPOT initially lived in many different parts of the United States. As a child Hargett and his family relocated to Coney Island, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. His childhood was spent between Brooklyn, Harlem, New York and Atlanta, GA. A talented yet troublesome child, Spot traveled the country playing basketball with top AAU clubs during his preteen years. Spot has described growing up in the projects as "vicious."

Music

Spot first came into the public view in 2004, when he teamed with Jimmy Henchman and Bryce Wilson to kick start newly formed music company Czar Entertainment. With Czar signing a distribution deal with Sony Music Group, Spot seemed primed to release an album, although he had just began rapping and producing. A fast learner in the studio, Spot began working with major label artist of various genres, including Mario Winans, Miri Bin-Ari, Foxy Brown, Swizz Beatz, Black Rob, El Debarge and even working on a posthumous Notorious B.I.G. album.

Loser (film)

Loser is a 2000 American romantic comedy film starring Jason Biggs, Mena Suvari and Greg Kinnear. It is about a small-town teenager who is accepted into New York University and must cope with the pressures of college life and the big city.

Plot

Paul Tannek (Jason Biggs), a small-town, intelligent kid from Upstate New York is accepted into NYU on an academic scholarship. Trying to follow the advice of his father (Dan Aykroyd) he tries to gain friends by trying to be polite and interested in others. His attempts are noticed by his new roommates Chris (Thomas Sadoski), Adam (Zak Orth) and Noah (Jimmi Simpson), three rich, spoiled, obnoxious city boys who consider his polite behavior, working class background and determination for education lame and brand him a loser. To salvage their reputation, the trio concoct a false story to the housing administration about Paul's attitude and have him thrown out of the dorm. Paul takes residence in a veterinary hospital. Chris meets Paul and again concocts another story about how they were trying to help him as a ploy for Paul to let them use the hospital to throw parties since a resident at the dorm fell into sickness due to excessive alcohol, forbidding them to hold any parties thereon.

Loser (3 Doors Down song)

"Loser" is a song recorded by American alternative rock band 3 Doors Down. It was released in July 2000 as the second single from their debut album The Better Life. The song spent 21 weeks at the number-one position on the Billboard U.S. Mainstream Rock chart, an all-time record for the chart.

Lead singer Brad Arnold wrote "Loser" about a childhood friend who became addicted to cocaine.

The song received much radio airplay on rock radio, as well as contemporary hit radio due to the song's crossover on the pop charts.

Pejorative

A pejorative (also called a derogatory term,derogative term, a term of abuse, or a term of disparagement) is a word or grammatical form expressing a low opinion of someone or something, or showing a lack of respect for someone or something. Also, an ethnic slur or racial slur can be pejorative and to imply people of those groups are inferior or deficient.
