The shooting was reported at Northwest 138th Street and Northwest 27th Avenue at 9:15 a.m. Opa-locka City Manager David Chiverton confirmed that two women had been shot, and that their current conditions were not immediately known. The nearby Nathan B. Young Elementary School, located at 14120 Northwest 24th Street, as Robert Ingram Elementary School, located at 600 Ahmad Street, were both placed on lockdown as a result of the shooting, the Miami-Dade school board confirms. The shooter remains on the loose. Update:Two women were shot during a barrage of bullets that ripped into their car as it sat trapped in the line of a Burger King drive-thru in Opa-locka on Tuesday morning. The shooters, who fled on foot, were still on the loose early Tuesday afternoon. The injured women were airlifted to the hospital. One of them is in critical condition. The other is stable and expected to survive. A third woman in the car escaped injury. “As the gunfire rang out,” said Opa-locka’s interim city manager David Chiverton, “the driver pulled out of the drive-thru.” The car, an older model Chrysler filled with bullet holes and wounded victims, somehow managed to careen about 70 yards, eventually coming to a halt on Northwest 27th Avenue and Opa-locka Boulevard. The Burger King is at the corner of Northwest 27th Avenue and 136th Street. The shooting happened at about 9 a.m. The damaged Chrysler remained on the scene into the early afternoon as detectives scoured the area for witnesses and looked for forensic evidence. Two local schools, Nathan B. Young and Robert Ingram Elementary, were briefly locked down as police set up a perimeter and searched for the shooters. By early afternoon they still hadn’t been captured. The women haven’t been named. Chiverton said police only had a rough description of the shooters, saying they were three black males.
