Perth’s Elizabeth Quay water park still closed despite $290k upgrades

ALMOST $300,000 has been spent to upgrade Elizabeth Quay’s water park since a health scare closed the site in February — but it may not reopen before summer.

The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority confirmed on Tuesday it had spent $290,000 on upgrades including new UV filters, an extra water pump and an updated filtration system.

A health scare closed the park eight months ago.

Bacteria which could cause skin rashes or eye infections were found in the water pipes.

Nine News reports the park will remain closed for at least two more weeks as the Health Department has yet to sign off on its opening.

Waterpark woes

The Department has reportedly not yet received a hazard management report.

It will also require the park to have more shade before it opens, including new umbrellas and shade sails.

A computer system will monitor the water and will shut off the jets automatically if the water quality does not meet the standard.
