Actor/director Eriq La Salle is best known to worldwide television audiences for his award-winning portrayal of the commanding Dr. Peter Benton on the critically acclaimed and history-making medical drama E.R.
Educated at Juilliard and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, his credits range from Broadway to film roles opposite Eddie Murphy in "Coming to America" and Robin Williams in "One Hour Photo." La Salle has maintained a prolific acting career while at the same time working steadily as a director, taking the helm for HBO and Showtime in addition to episodics such as Law & Order, CSI: New York and Under the Dome, to name a few.
La Salle published his debut novel, Laws of Depravity, to stunning reviews, including the coveted Kirkus Star, Reader's Choice Best Thriller of 2013 and overwhelming 5-star reviews.
Now La Salle is set to release his 2nd book in the series, the gripping thriller Laws of Wrath.

Eriq La Salle
Eriq La Salle (born Erik Ki La Salle, July 23, 1962) is an American actor, director, writer and producer known for his portrayals of Darryl in the 1988 comedy film Coming to America and Dr. Peter Benton in the NBC drama series ER.
Early life and education
La Salle, one of four children, was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, by his mother, Ada Haynes. He is an alumnus of the Artists Collective, Inc. in Hartford. He attended the Juilliard School's Drama Division for two years as a member of Group 13 (1980–84), then attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Graduate Acting Program in 1984.
Career
At the time of his graduation from NYU, La Salle was cast in Joseph Papp's Shakespeare in the Park production of Henry V. Soon after, he found continuous acting work on Broadway, off-Broadway and in several daytime TV dramas including One Life to Live, where he played the reporter Mike Rivers.
In 1988, La Salle starred alongside Eddie Murphy in the movie Coming to America.

Actor/director Eriq La Salle is best known to worldwide television audiences for his award-winning portrayal of the commanding Dr. Peter Benton on the critically acclaimed and history-making medical drama E.R.
Educated at Juilliard and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, his credits range from Broadway to film roles opposite Eddie Murphy in "Coming to America" and Robin Williams in "One Hour Photo." La Salle has maintained a prolific acting career while at the same time working steadily as a director, taking the helm for HBO and Showtime in addition to episodics such as Law & Order, CSI: New York and Under the Dome, to name a few.
La Salle published his debut novel, Laws of Depravity, to stunning reviews, including the coveted Kirkus Star, Reader's Choice Best Thriller of 2013 and overwhelming 5-star reviews.
Now La Salle is set to release his 2nd book in the series, the gripping thriller Laws of Wrath.

We recently had a chance to chat with Actor/Writer Eriq La Salle, Director of NBC's "The Night Shift." NBC’s hit summer drama “The Night Shift” returns for season two in 2015. Life in the emergency room at San Antonio Memorial is never routine – and the men and women that make up the night shift team are a special breed. The new season finds the crew still recovering from a shocking hostage situation that left one of their colleagues dead. The experience brought them all a little closer but also exposed some personal weaknesses. Adrenaline junkie TC Callahan (Eoin Macken, “Merlin”) is back at work after facing suspension. We recently had a chance to chat with Actor/Writer Eriq La Salle, Director of NBC's "The Night Shift."
NBC’s hit summer drama “The Night Shift” returns for season two in 2015.
Life in the emergency room at San Antonio Memorial is never routine – and the men and women that make up the night shift team are a special breed. The new season finds the crew still recovering from a shocking hostage situation that left one of their colleagues dead. The experience brought them all a little closer but also exposed some personal weaknesses.
Adrenaline junkie TC Callahan (Eoin Macken, “Merlin”) is back at work after facing suspension.
TC’s best friend Topher (Ken Leung, “Lost”) is also back at work and has recovered from the gunshot wound that nearly took his life. Drew (Brendan Fehr, “Roswell”) was dealt some personal blows in the last year but is ready to embark on a new chapter in his life.
Lead night shift physician Jordan Alexander (Jill Flint, “The Good Wife”) – and TC’s Ex – has given up the job of running the night shift for now and she has some big decisions to make about her future.
The biggest news of all will come from night shift senior manager Michael Ragosa (Freddy Rodriguez, “Six Feet Under”). After facing a health scare last year, he is ready to make some big changes in his life that will affect everyone on the staff.
Premiering in 1994, Eriq La Salle starred as Dr. Peter Benton in NBC's medical drama ER. He held the role until leaving during the eighth season.
In 1996, La Salle made his directorial debut in the HBO made-for-TV movie Rebound: The Legend of Earl "The Goat" Manigault, starring Don Cheadle, James Earl Jones and Forest Whitaker, in which La Salle also played a pivotal role. Shortly after that, La Salle also directed the pilot for Soul Food: The Series on Showtime.

Eriq La Salle
Born and raised in Hartford, CT, as one of four children. Studied two years at Juillard and graduated from New York University graduate theater program with a B.F.A. degree in theater. Meanwhile he participated in the first of Joseph Papp's Shakespeare productions at the Park theater company. Later he supported himself by acting on and off Broadway and as "Mike Rivers" in the soap One Life to Live (1968). After that he moved to L.A. to guest-star in numerous TV series and TV movies.

Born and raised in Hartford, CT, as one of four children. Studied two years at Juillard and graduated from New York University graduate theater program with a B.F.A. degree in theater. Meanwhile he participated in the first of Joseph Papp's Shakespeare productions at the Park theater company. Later he supported himself by acting on and off Broadway and as "Mike Rivers" in the soap One Life to Live (1968). After that he moved to L.A. to guest-star in numerous TV series and TV movies.
