Worker death on South Wharf construction site
A WORKER has died on a construction site at South Wharf yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the industrial site just before 3.35pm.
The 54-year-old man was understood to be operating the boom lift when he was crushed.

The incident occurred on a construction site in the car park of 1 Convention Centre Place.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said police were on scene.
WorkSafe spokeswoman Caitlin Rode said it had been made aware of the incident and was investigating.
CFMEU spokesman Clancy Dobbyn said he could confirm a worker had died on a Probuild site at South Wharf.
“CFMEU officials are currently on site,” he said.
The boilmaker was a long-time member of the CFMEU and currently a member of the AMWU.
He was an employee of Sunshine-based company Stilcon working on the construction site operated by Probuild.
Two workers from the construction site were in tears as they hugged and consoled each other metres from where the accident happened.
Remona Moore, who works at DFO across from the construction site, said her heart “breaks for the man’s family”.
“I walk past that construction site everyday and it’s just shocking to hear someone has lost their life there,” Ms Moore told the Herald Sun.
“You go to work thinking everything will be OK and that you’ll come home in one piece.... My heart hurts for his family, it’s just awful.”
Police, Work Safe and CFMEU remained at the scene hours after the man died.
Probuild is constructing the $300 million expansion of Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre, incorporating a hotel and multi-storey car park to the existing facilities.
The company said it couldn’t comment on the incident.
