In computer networks, to ''download'' (may be referred as DL or dl in internet terms as opposed to UL-upload) means to receive data to a local system from a remote system, or to initiate such a data transfer. Examples of a remote system from which a download might be performed include a webserver, FTP server, email server, or other similar systems. It is important to note that the true definition of download and upload, refers to the size of the systems involved not necessarily the direction of transfer. For example, a file is downloaded from a server to a PC, but a file is also downloaded from a PC to a smaller device such as a Programmable Logic Controller.
A ''download'' can mean either any file that is offered for downloading or that has been downloaded, or the process of receiving such a file.
It has become more common to mistake and confuse the meaning of downloading and installing or simply combine them incorrectly together.
The inverse operation, ''uploading'', can refer to the sending of data from a local system to a remote system such as a server or another client with the intent that the remote system should store a copy of the data being transferred, or the initiation of such a process. The words first came into popular usage among computer users with the increased popularity of Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs), facilitated by the widespread distribution and implementation of dial-up access the in the 1970s.
Remote uploading is also used in situations where the computers that need to share data are located on a distant high speed local area network, and the remote control is being performed using a comparatively slow dialup modem connection.
For example:
Without remote uploading functionality, the user would be required to download the file first to their local host and then re-upload it to the remote file hosting server.
Where the connection to the remote computers is via a dialup connection, the transfer time required to download locally and then re-upload could increase from seconds, to hours or days.

Ralph Tresvant, aka Rizz (born Ralph Edward Tresvant, Jr. on May 16, 1968) is an American tenor singer, best known as one of the lead singers in New Edition.
Nevertheless, well-known producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were confident in his abilities after having worked with him on the album ''Heartbreak''. They wrote the song "Sensitivity" for him which hit #1 on the R&B; charts, #4 on the Hot 100 and it went gold. His self-titled album released shortly after in 1990 and went platinum as well, topping the R&B; charts. The album scored two more hits with "Stone Cold Gentleman" reaching #3 on the R&B; charts and "Do What I Gotta Do" which reached #2.
Tresvant appeared in the movie ''House Party 2'' in 1991, performing the song 'Yo Baby Yo' from the House Party 2 Movie Soundtrack. The following year, he scored his fourth and final solo top 3 R&B; hit to date, "Money Can't Buy You Love", from the ''Mo' Money'' soundtrack. In 1993, he released his second album, ''It's Goin' Down''. The album featured greater involvement from Tresvant as he produced many of the tracks himself. However, the album failed to perform as well as the debut.
In 1996, he reunited with the other members of New Edition for the release of ''Home Again'' which became a success. The album was released on September 10, 1996 and debuted at #1 on both the Billboard Pop and R&B; Charts.
In October 2004 "Sensitivity" appeared in popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on R&B;/Soul radio station CSR 103.9.
Ralph's third solo album, ''Rizz-Wa-Faire'', was released March 7, 2006. The first single and video from the album was "My Homegirl".

In 1989, he contributed two songs (including "On Our Own", which reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100) to the ''Ghostbusters II'' soundtrack, in addition to making a cameo in the film. Brown has subsequently dabbled in acting.
In between the "On Our Own" single and the release of Brown's next album, a remix album, ''Dance! Ya Know It!'' was released to capitalise on Brown's huge success at the time. A non-album "megamix" single was released to promote the project. The European dance-oriented version (sampling beats by Snap!) was titled "The Freestyle Megamix" and was a hit in the UK, reaching #14 on the Gallup charts. A more R'n'B oriented version called "Every Little Hit Mix" (b/w "Roni) was released in Australia.
Brown's third album, ''Bobby'', did not arrive until 1992. It reached #2 on the Billboard album charts and produced the hit singles "Humpin' Around" (#3 on the Billboard Hot 100) and "Good Enough" (#7) as well as a smaller hit in "Get Away" (#14). The album was eventually certified 1x platinum (1,000,000 units sold). However, it did not come close to matching the album sales or singles chart success of its predecessor.
Brown waited until late 1997 to release his next (and to date, last) album of original material, ''Forever''. The album was originally titled ''Bobby II'' and was supposed to be produced by such luminaries as R.Kelly, Teddy Riley, Sean Combs and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. However, Brown negotiated 100% creative control of the album and decided to write all the songs himself. It only managed to climb to #61 on the Billboard Hot 200 album charts and produced no charting singles.
In 2006 Brown appeared on "Beautiful", the third single from Damian Marley's album ''Welcome to Jamrock''.
2010 Bobby Brown surprised his fans by dueting with American R&B; and soul singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress Macy Gray on her new album titled The Sellout. Together they did a song "Real Love". Macy Gray divulged the pleasure of working with Bobby Brown to Essence Magazine on the project, saying that "actually he came to the studio, since he doesn't live far, and knocked out his recording in two hours. We're friends and his one-year-old son is my godson. His fiance is one of my best friends in the whole world. I met Bobby a long time ago, but we really got to know each other through her."
Bobby Brown had cameo guest appearances in many movies. ''Panther'' (1995) starring Courtney B. Vance and Chris Rock. Earlier, he played all three characters of Three Blind Mice in ''Mother Goose Rock 'n' Rhyme'' (1990). In 1989 was Brown's first solo guest cameo appearance in ''Ghostbusters II'' playing the Mayor's Doorman.

He has been appearing on cable-televised reality T.V. shows such as ''Celebrity Fit Club'', ''Gone Country'', and his own show entitled ''Being Bobby Brown''.
Brown's eldest son, Landon Brown, appeared on the MTV show Rock the Cradle. On February 3, 2009, it was announced Brown was expecting his fifth child with his then girlfriend. His fifth son, a boy named Cassius, was born May 30, 2009.
On May 7, 2010, Brown proposed to his long time girlfriend while performing at the Funk Fest in Jacksonville, Fla. He asked her to marry him while giving his performance on stage. He got down on one knee and when she joined him on stage along with their child she accepted his proposal. He is currently signed to Bronx Bridge Entertainment.
Bobby Brown made a guest appearance on ''The Monique Show'' with fellow group mates Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant to promote their ongoing tour across the globe to sold out shows. Bobby also discussed how he overcame his struggles. The trio Heads of State performed medleys of their classic legendary hits to an audience full of die hard New Edition fans.

Johnny Gill (born May 22, 1966) is an American R&B; singer-songwriter best known for his romantic ballads and as a member of New Edition. His signature song "My, My, My" has been included on numerous romantic compilations.
Gill began a new chapter in his career in 1987, when he was recruited by Michael Bivins to join New Edition to be the replacement for lead singer Ralph Tresvant, who was rumored at the time to be leaving to pursue a solo career.
With Gill, the oldest member, as one of the lead singers (along with Tresvant, who ended up staying with New Edition and delaying the launch of his solo career) on the album Heart Break, the group developed a more mature, adult sound, hitting the charts with songs such as "Can You Stand The Rain," "N.E. Heartbreak," "If It Isn't Love," and the Gill-led "Boys To Men."
Continuing his role as a romantic balladeer while emerging as a New Jack Swing star, he released a second self-titled album in 1990 which included the hits "My, My, My," "Rub You the Right Way," "Fairweather Friend" and "Wrap My Body Tight". In 1991, he was featured in Perri "Pebbles" Reid's hit single "Always" from the album of the same name, along with Pebbles' cousin, R&B; singer, Cherrelle. The single made the R&B; Top 20 shortly after its release.
In 1993, Gill released another solo project, ''Provocative,'' which included the songs "Quiet Time to Play," "A Cute, Sweet, Love Addiction," and a moving gospel, "I Know Where I Stand." In 1996, Gill was reunited with New Edition, including Brown, as they recorded ''Home Again,'' an album noted for the singles "Hit Me Off" and "Still In Love". The title song, "Home Again," although not released as a single is one of the most impressive vocal performances recorded by the group to date.
In 1996, Gill also released ''Let's Get the Mood Right,'' which included the title song, "Love In an Elevator," and "Maybe" which is considered by many to be one of his greatest vocal performances ever. The following year, he collaborated with Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat to form the supergroup ''LSG'' (Levert/Sweat/Gill) which resulted in the multi platinum debut album, ''Levert-Sweat-Gill,'' and a follow-up album in 2003 entitled ''LSG2.''
Gill, the only member of New Edition who is not from Boston, was raised in Washington DC where he attended Kimball Elementary, Sousa Junior High, and Duke Ellington School of the Arts. His career dictated that he complete his high school education through the services of a tutor. Gill had planned to attend college and pursue a degree in electrical engineering, but his career came first.
His latest recording, "You For Me (The Wedding Song)" from the ''Madea's Family Reunion'' soundtrack received strong reviews from music critics as well as the general public. In 2008, Gill, as a member of New Edition, was the recipient of the Golden Note Award at ASCAP's 21st Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.
On September 27, 2008, he began touring with Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown in a new group named Heads of State.
With over 80 television and film appearances as a singer and actor, Gill earned much acclaim for his cameo role on the hit TV show, Family Matters (TV series) and recently thrilled audiences singing "You For Me" in the movie "Madea's Family Reunion."
In October 2004 ''Rub You The Right Way'' appeared in popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on R&B;, Soul radio station CSR 103.9. Gill most recently starred in the 2009 stage play "A Mother's Prayer", which also stars Robin Givens, Shirley Murdock and Jermaine Crawford. In July 2010 Notifi Records based out of St. Louis, MO signed Gill to a recording contract with new music due in 2011.

As a result of his success in the talent shows, the major recording companies soon heard about Galbraith and he was signed to his first recording contract in England. His first recording was "Walking in the Air", which was released on a special Christmas Hits album, also featuring Westlife, Elton John and Elvis Presley. Galbraith loves to sing to live audiences and among some of his most memorable performances are, the Queen's Jubilee at St Paul's Cathedral, when he sang "Amazing Grace" accompanied by the St Paul's Choir and a performance in front of more than 22,000 people at an Elton John concert.
His first self-titled album, ''Declan'', with Irish traditional songs and some specially written material became a big success and charted in the U.K. and Ireland. Within the year of release, it had soon sold 200,000 copies in Germany.
Another big success came during a nationwide tour of Young Voices concerts when breaking the Guinness World Record. It was at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast in December 2002 when he sang live with some 10,000 children and was also simultaneously linked, by radio and satellite, with more than 80,000 children in their schools all over the UK, who accompanied him in achieving the world’s largest choral sing.
Galbraith's talent and reputation came to the attention of media mogul Haim Saban and his music President, Ron Kenan, who signed Galbraith to Saban Music Group's new record label. They have chosen Germany to be the very first territory in the world to launch their first produced album, via the Starwatch Music label.
Galbraith amicably parted company with his management in February 2010. He is currently battling major contractual issues that prevent any releases for the time being. Galbraith is said to be returning to full time education, which he had to partly give up when he was 14 years old, due to his musical obligations.
In July 2010, it was announced on his official forum that he has joined up with the Route 66 theatre show casts to tour England from July to September 2010.
