Dubrovnik is always worth a trip. That´s what the crew of Cities in 4K thought, too. So we decided to visit this beautiful city this spring after the Star Wars filming was finished.
Dubrovnik is located at the Adriatic Sea in Croatia and it´s on UNESCO´s list of World Heritage Site. It has a beautiful old part of the city which is bigger than the usual ones. It is a very popular touristic destination for tourists from all over the world, because it combines history and sea vacation in one.
Watch the Video from Cities in 4K and explore this amazing city with a lot of footage of scenes which were part of the popular series Game of Thrones. The stones of Dubrovnik tell a 13-century-long tale of survival. The Roman city of Ragusa developed into a city-state encompassing the coast as far south as the Bay of Kotor, the Pelješac Peninsula and nearby islands including Mljet and Lastovo.
On the walls of Korčula Town, antique cannons still aim across a narrow channel at the village of Orebić, on Pelješac. That's because Korčula was an outpost of Dubrovnik's rival, the Republic of Venice.
Legend has it that St. Blaise appeared in a vision in 971 to warn Dubrovnik of an impending Venetian invasion. He's been revered here ever since. But it's appropriate that he's the saint who is celebrated with the blessing of throats. After all, Dubrovnik remained independent and prosperous for more than a millennium on its citizens' powers of negotiation.
Now Dubrovnik has thrown open its gates to an annual invasion of thousands of visitors who come to walk its ancient streets, to see the wealth the city amassed through centuries of trade, and to stand on its mighty walls and gaze across the crystalline seas.

It seems like all cities at this part of the Adriatic have stunning old towns - on top of that the one in Dubrovnik is located on a Peninsula resulting in stunning photographs you want to pin to your walls at home.
One of our favorite Things to do in Dubrovnik has been walking the walls. We recommend doing it in the evening to enjoy the views during the Golden Hour.
Beside the town itself you should visit the nearby beaches and tske the cable car up to the Mt. Srd for the best views. More info can be found within the Dubrovnik Travel Guide (link above!).

Well today's vlog is a super exciting one! Nicholas and I took a three day trip to Dubrovnik in Croatia, which many of you might recognise from The Game of Thrones (which I have never seen) :D
This was our very first holiday away together just us two since we met back in 2011 and it was amazing :)

Croatian War of Independence was a war in Croatia from 1991 to 1995. Initially, the war was between Croatia and the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA). Later, the conflict turned into fighting between the armed forces of the newly-independent Croatia and the rebelling Serb minority, who proclaimed an autonomous Republic of Serb Krajina. The Serbs were supported by the Yugoslavian National Army and Belgrade. The Croatian side aimed to establish sovereignty for the Republic of Croatia, previously a federal unit in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Croatia's rebelling Serbs had wanted to remain a part of Yugoslavia, effectively seeking new boundaries in those parts of Croatia with a Serb majority or significant minority. The war was striking for its brutality and intensity.

Within the southernmost archipelago of Dalmatia is one of the most fascinating harbour cities of the young republic of Croatia, Dubrovnik, a breathtaking Mediterranean city with a great history. The "city of stone" had its heyday in the Middle Ages and was one of the most important economic and cultural centres in the Mediterranean. An ancient courtyard gate leads to the Old Town and to Luža Square, the city’s main square that contains a fine clock tower and splendid palace Loggia. The sixteenth century Sponza Palace consists of a combination of designs, including both Gothic and Renaissance, and once contained the Customs House and Mint. Despite much foreign rule, the city largely succeeded in being autonomous. Velika Gospa Cathedral was built between 1672 and 1713 on the ruins of a Romanesque basilica. According to legend, Richard The Lionheart was shipwrecked in the city on his return from the Third Crusade and his financial donation made it possible to build the city’s first church. From the thirteenth century the city was fortified with powerful walls that now rank among the largest, and also the most beautiful, in the whole of Europe. Dubrovnik is, amazingly, still a storybook city with all the flair of the Middle Ages. A treasure trove of history and undisputed Pearl Of The Adriatic.

Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik ([dǔbroːʋniːk]; also known by other names) is a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea, in the region of Dalmatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea, a seaport and the center of Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Its total population is 42,615 (census 2011). In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
The prosperity of the city was historically based on maritime trade; as the capital of the maritime Republic of Ragusa, it achieved a high level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries, as it became notable for its wealth and skilled diplomacy.
The beginning of modern tourism is associated with the construction of the Hotel Imperial in Dubrovnik in 1897. According to CNNGo, Dubrovnik is among the 10 best preserved medieval walled cities in the world. Although it was demilitarised in the 1970s to protect it from war, in 1991, after the breakup of Yugoslavia, it was besieged by the Serb and Montenegrin soldiers gathered in the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) for seven months and suffered significant damage from shelling.

Within the southernmost archipelago of Dalmatia is one of the most fascinating harbour cities of the young republic of Croatia, Dubrovnik, a breathtaking Mediterranean city with a great history. The "city of stone" had its heyday in the Middle Ages and was one of the most important economic and cultural centres in the Mediterranean. An ancient courtyard gate leads to the Old Town and to Luža Square, the city’s main square that contains a fine clock tower and splendid palace Loggia. The sixteenth century Sponza Palace consists of a combination of designs, including both Gothic and Renaissance, and once contained the Customs House and Mint. Despite much foreign rule, the city largely succeeded in being autonomous. Velika Gospa Cathedral was built between 1672 and 1713 on the ruins of a Romanesque basilica. According to legend, Richard The Lionheart was shipwrecked in the city on his return from the Third Crusade and his financial donation made it possible to build the city’s first church. From the thirteenth century the city was fortified with powerful walls that now rank among the largest, and also the most beautiful, in the whole of Europe. Dubrovnik is, amazingly, still a storybook city with all the flair of the Middle Ages. A treasure trove of history and undisputed Pearl Of The Adriatic.

The Kaptol district has been its Catholic heart since the Middle Ages. An atmospheric place, Upper Town is a gem Zagreb’s historic past. North of Zagreb on the western border with Slovenia, the picture-perfect Veliki Tabor Castle rises on a hill, its Renaissance courtyard with columns and arcades possessing a touch of southern elegance. Kumrovec, birthplace of the former President of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, is located south of the castle and is now a museum village. The historic centre of Rovinj is located on a shell-shaped peninsula, further south on the Adriatic coast. Seen from the sea it is one of the most stunning of the Adriatic’s harbour cities. Situated close to the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula is Pula, the oldest city on Croatia‘s eastern Adriatic coast. The largest square of the Old Town, and today‘s main square, was originally located on the site of a Roman forum. The historical centre of Split is a cultural work of art, its palace, sea aspect and bay a harmonious blend of both ancient and mediaeval times. The historical centre of Split is a cultural work of art, its palace, sea aspect and bay a harmonious blend of both ancient and mediaeval times. Dubrovnik‘s historic centre possesses many treasures such as the Onofri Fountain, the Saint Spas Chapel and the Franciscan Church.
