During the tail end of the summer adventuring season, we took a trip to Morocco to climb Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. Standing at a formidable 4,167 meters, its height is eclipsed only by Kilimanjaro among all mountains in Africa, making it the 2nd highest peak on the continent. Join us on day 1 of our trek as we start out from the village of Imlil and head deep into the heart of the Atlas Mountains, making for the Refuge du Toubkal.
In the final part of our attempt at summiting Northern Africa’s highest peak, we battle food poisoning, freezing temperatures and mental breakdowns. Will the mountain defeat us? Watch to find out...
An amazing weekend in the Atlas Mountains, the goal being to summit Jebel Toubkal, highest peak in the Atlas range and indeed the whole of North Africa, starting off with a day in Marrakech before travelling to Imlil at the foot of the mountain range on the second day and beginning the trek up to Neltner Refuge, which is at an altitude of 3207 metres. An early start was needed on the third day in order to succesfully summit before the heat became too much. After reaching the top of Toubkal, 4167 metres, and enjoying the amazing views for a while it was time to head back to Imlil and then on to Marrakech once more. Temperatures throughout were in excess of 40 degrees, reaching 44 at one point, with even the nights being 20 plus. There were still some snow patches above 3500 metres at which ...

In January 2014 I began a project with Exped Adventure to document some of the world's best trekking peaks on film. This is the first installment from Toubkal in the High Atlas mountains of North Africa.
Temperatures of -31C, 70mph winds - we managed to get to the refuge, but like everyone else on the weekend of 27/28 Feb, our ascent failed :( For more treks with the girls and the remainder of our kids head over to our website: www.tinytrekkers.co.uk We made 3622m of 4,167m..... Just 545m short.
