Uppalapu Srinivas (Telugu: ఉప్పలపు శ్రీనివాస్; 28 February 1969 – 19 September 2014) was an Indian mandolin player and composer of the Carnatic musical tradition of Southern India. A child prodigy, he made his debut in 1978, and came to be popularly known as Mandolin Srinivas. Over the next four decades, he toured across the world, and collaborated with ohn McLaughlin,Michael Nyman, and Michael Brook.
Srinivas was born 28 February 1969, in Palakol in Andhra Pradesh. At the age of six he picked up his father U. Satyanarayana's mandolin, after he heard it played at a concert he attended with his father. Upon realising the talent of his son, his father who had studied classical music, bought him a new mandolin, and started teaching him.He started with the acoustic mandolin, though later he switched to the electric mandolin as he felt it allowed making long notes clearly audible.
He was the first musician to use electric mandolin in Carnatic music, he even modified a difficult electric western instrument, using five strings instead of traditional eight, to suit the Carnatic pitch, raga system, and especially gamakas, and nuanced oscillations.
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 by Government of India, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009. He was a follower and devotee of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and he had performed before him on several occasions.

Jayashri Ramnath (popularly known as Bombay Jayashri) is an Indian Carnatic music vocalist and music composer. She is a disciple of violin maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman.
Jayashri was born in Kolkata, into a family of music connoisseurs and musicians. While growing up in Mumbai, she started training in Carnatic music under the guidance of her parents Seetha and N. N. Subramaniam. Jayashri has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from R. A. Podar College, Mumbai. also has a Diploma in Music from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi.Jayashri's jugalbandis with Ronu Majumdar and Shubha Mudgal have been very well received.She has dialogued with artistes in dance like Leela Samson and Priyadarsini Govind. Jayashri has sung Thirukkural and an Annamacharya verse in the prestigious audio autobiography - Wings of Fire of former President Shri Abdul Kalam.She decorated many prestigious awards like Sangeetha kalasarathy,Tamil Nadu State Film Award for best Female Playback Singer,Kalaimamani,Sangeetha choodamani and Filmfare Award for best Female Playback Singer – Tamil.

Sangeetha Kalanidhi Maharajapuram Santhanam (Tamil: மகாராஜபுரம் ஸந்தானம்), (December 3, 1928June 24, 1992) was one of the great Carnatic music vocalists of the 20th century. He was born in Sirunangur, a village in the state of Tamil Nadu. He followed the footsteps of his father Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer who was also a Carnatic singer.
Besides studying with his father, he was also a disciple of Melattur Sama Dikshitar. Maharajapuram Santhanam was also a distinguished composer. He wrote many songs on Lord Murugan and Kanchi Shankaracharya, His Holiness Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Swamigal (Maha Periyavar). He was the Principal of Ramanathan College in Sri Lanka. Later he came and settled in Chennai. The songs which were popularised by Maharajapuram Santhanam are,"Bho Shambo" (Revati), "Madhura Madhura" (Bagheshri), both composed by Swami Dayananda Saraswati, "Unnai Allal" (Kalyani Raga), "Sadha Nin Padhame gathi, Varam onnru" (Shanmukhapriya), "Srichakra Raja" (Ragamalika), "Nalinakaanthimathim" (Ragamalika),"Ksheerabdi kannike" (Ragamalika) among others. The Maharajapuram Santhanam Day is celebrated on the 3rd of December every year.
He died in a car accident on June 24, 1992. His sons Maharajapuram S. Srinivasan, Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran, and his primary disciple Dr. R. Ganesh are now carrying on his musical tradition.
His other most popular songs are Purandaradasa kritis: "Narayana ninna" (Shuddha Dhanyasi) and "Govinda ninna". His rendition of "Vilayada ithu nerama muruga" was without parallel. His renditions were full of Bhakthi.

Sudha Raghunathan was born in a Tamil Brahmin family in Bangalore, Karnataka. In 1977, her family moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She studied at Ethiraj College, and obtained a postgraduate degree in Economics. she received an Indian government scholarship to study music under a doyenne of Carnatic music,Dr. M.L Vasantha Kumari, whose student she remained for thirteen years.
The early years of her training under Vasanthakumari involved considerable amounts of listening to the teacher and other practitioners to absorb their style and oeuvre. Part of her duties involved the accompaniment on the tanpura of her teacher during concerts, and occasionally singing the higher registers.
Sudha Raghunathan has performed at the Madras Music Season, the most distinguished venue for Carnatic music, every year since 1990. Indeed, with the award in 2013 of the Sangita Kalanidhi of the Madras Music Academy, her importance as one of India's finest classical musicians has been firmly established.
Besides the Carnatic repertoire, Sudha Raghunathan has also explored the world music scene, in particular fusion music. She has performed as a playback singer in the Tamil cinema as well.
Sudha Raghunathan is married and has two children.
She is known for her charitable work, heading the Samudaaya Foundation that provides healthcare to the poor. The foundation has also raised funds for victims of the Gujarat earthquake and cyclone relief in Orissa.

Uppalapu Srinivas (Telugu: ఉప్పలపు శ్రీనివాస్; 28 February 1969 – 19 September 2014) was an Indian mandolin player and composer of the Carnatic musical tradition of Southern India. A child prodigy, he made his debut in 1978, and came to be popularly known as Mandolin Srinivas. Over the next four decades, he toured across the world, and collaborated with ohn McLaughlin,Michael Nyman, and Michael Brook. Srinivas was born 28 February 1969, in Palakol in Andhra Pradesh. At the age of six he picked up his father U. Satyanarayana's mandolin, after he heard it played at a concert he attended with his father. Upon realising the talent of his son, his father who had studied classical music, bought him a new mandolin, and started teaching him.He started with the acoustic mandolin, though later he switched to the electric mandolin as he felt it allowed making long notes clearly audible. He was the first musician to use electric mandolin in Carnatic music, he even modified a difficult electric western instrument, using five strings instead of traditional eight, to suit the Carnatic pitch, raga system, and especially gamakas, and nuanced oscillations. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 by Government of India, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009. Sangeetha Kalanidhi Maharajapuram Santhanam (Tamil: மகாராஜபுரம் ஸந்தானம்), (December 3, 1928June 24, 1992) was one of the great Carnatic music vocalists of the 20th century. He was born in Sirunangur, a village in the state of Tamil Nadu. He followed the footsteps of his father Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer who was also a Carnatic singer. Besides studying with his father, he was also a disciple of Melattur Sama Dikshitar. Maharajapuram Santhanam was also a distinguished composer. He wrote many songs on Lord Murugan and Kanchi Shankaracharya, His Holiness Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Swamigal (Maha Periyavar). He was the Principal of Ramanathan College in Sri Lanka. Later he came and settled in Chennai. The songs which were popularised by Maharajapuram Santhanam are,"Bho Shambo" (Revati), "Madhura Madhura" (Bagheshri), both composed by Swami Dayananda Saraswati, "Unnai Allal" (Kalyani Raga), "Sadha Nin Padhame gathi, Varam onnru" (Shanmukhapriya), "Srichakra Raja" (Ragamalika), "Nalinakaanthimathim" (Ragamalika),"Ksheerabdi kannike" (Ragamalika) among others. The Maharajapuram Santhanam Day is celebrated on the 3rd of December every year. He died in a car accident on June 24, 1992. His sons Maharajapuram S. Srinivasan, Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran, and his primary disciple Dr. R. Ganesh are now carrying on his musical tradition. His other most popular songs are Purandaradasa kritis: "Narayana ninna" (Shuddha Dhanyasi) and "Govinda ninna". His rendition of "Vilayada ithu nerama muruga" was without parallel. Sudha Raghunathan was born in a Tamil Brahmin family in Bangalore, Karnataka. In 1977, her family moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She studied at Ethiraj College, and obtained a postgraduate degree in Economics. she received an Indian government scholarship to study music under a doyenne of Carnatic music,Dr. M.L Vasantha Kumari, whose student she remained for thirteen years. The early years of her training under Vasanthakumari involved considerable amounts of listening to the teacher and other practitioners to absorb their style and oeuvre. Part of her duties involved the accompaniment on the tanpura of her teacher during concerts, and occasionally singing the higher registers. Sudha Raghunathan has performed at the Madras Music Season, the most distinguished venue for Carnatic music, every year since 1990. Indeed, with the award in 2013 of the Sangita Kalanidhi of the Madras Music Academy, her importance as one of India's finest classical musicians has been firmly established. Besides the Carnatic repertoire, Sudha Raghunathan has also explored the world music scene, in particular fusion music. She has performed as a playback singer in the Tamil cinema as well. Sudha Raghunathan is married and has two children. She is known for her charitable work, heading the Samudaaya Foundation that provides healthcare to the poor. The foundation has also raised funds for victims of the Gujarat earthquake and cyclone relief in Orissa. Sangeetha Kalanidhi Maharajapuram Santhanam (Tamil: மகாராஜபுரம் ஸந்தானம்), (December 3, 1928June 24, 1992) was one of the great Carnatic music vocalists of the 20th century. He was born in Sirunangur, a village in the state of Tamil Nadu. He followed the footsteps of his father Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer who was also a Carnatic singer. Besides studying with his father, he was also a disciple of Melattur Sama Dikshitar. Maharajapuram Santhanam was also a distinguished composer. A child prodigy, he made his debut in 1978, and came to be popularly known as Mandolin Srinivas. Over the next four decades, he toured across the world, and collaborated with ohn McLaughlin,Michael Nyman, and Michael Brook.
Srinivas was born 28 February 1969, in Palakol in Andhra Pradesh. At the age of six he picked up his father U. Satyanarayana's mandolin, after he heard it played at a concert he attended with his father. Upon realising the talent of his son, his father who had studied classical music, bought him a new mandolin, and started teaching him.He started with the acoustic mandolin, though later he switched to the electric mandolin as he felt it allowed making long notes clearly audible.
He was the first musician to use electric mandolin in Carnatic music, he even modified a difficult electric western instrument, using five strings instead of traditional eight, to suit the Carnatic pitch, raga system, and especially gamakas, and nuanced oscillations.
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 by Government of India, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009. He was a follower and devotee of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and he had performed before him on several occasions.

Sangeetha Kalanidhi Maharajapuram Santhanam (Tamil: மகாராஜபுரம் ஸந்தானம்), (December 3, 1928June 24, 1992) was one of the great Carnatic music vocalists of the 20th century. He was born in Sirunangur, a village in the state of Tamil Nadu. He followed the footsteps of his father Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer who was also a Carnatic singer.
Besides studying with his father, he was also a disciple of Melattur Sama Dikshitar. Maharajapuram Santhanam was also a distinguished composer. He wrote many songs on Lord Murugan and Kanchi Shankaracharya, His Holiness Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Swamigal (Maha Periyavar). He was the Principal of Ramanathan College in Sri Lanka. Later he came and settled in Chennai. The songs which were popularised by Maharajapuram Santhanam are,"Bho Shambo" (Revati), "Madhura Madhura" (Bagheshri), both composed by Swami Dayananda Saraswati, "Unnai Allal" (Kalyani Raga), "Sadha Nin Padhame gathi, Varam onnru" (Shanmukhapriya), "Srichakra Raja" (Ragamalika), "Nalinakaanthimathim" (Ragamalika),"Ksheerabdi kannike" (Ragamalika) among others. The Maharajapuram Santhanam Day is celebrated on the 3rd of December every year.
He died in a car accident on June 24, 1992. His sons Maharajapuram S. Srinivasan, Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran, and his primary disciple Dr. R. Ganesh are now carrying on his musical tradition.
His other most popular songs are Purandaradasa kritis: "Narayana ninna" (Shuddha Dhanyasi) and "Govinda ninna". His rendition of "Vilayada ithu nerama muruga" was without parallel. His renditions were full of Bhakthi.

Sudha Raghunathan was born in a Tamil Brahmin family in Bangalore, Karnataka. In 1977, her family moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She studied at Ethiraj College, and obtained a postgraduate degree in Economics. she received an Indian government scholarship to study music under a doyenne of Carnatic music,Dr. M.L Vasantha Kumari, whose student she remained for thirteen years.
The early years of her training under Vasanthakumari involved considerable amounts of listening to the teacher and other practitioners to absorb their style and oeuvre. Part of her duties involved the accompaniment on the tanpura of her teacher during concerts, and occasionally singing the higher registers.
Sudha Raghunathan has performed at the Madras Music Season, the most distinguished venue for Carnatic music, every year since 1990. Indeed, with the award in 2013 of the Sangita Kalanidhi of the Madras Music Academy, her importance as one of India's finest classical musicians has been firmly established.
Besides the Carnatic repertoire, Sudha Raghunathan has also explored the world music scene, in particular fusion music. She has performed as a playback singer in the Tamil cinema as well.
Sudha Raghunathan is married and has two children.
She is known for her charitable work, heading the Samudaaya Foundation that provides healthcare to the poor. The foundation has also raised funds for victims of the Gujarat earthquake and cyclone relief in Orissa.

Part of her duties involved the accompaniment on the tanpura of her teacher during concerts, and occasionally singing the higher registers.
Sudha Raghunathan has performed at the Madras Music Season, the most distinguished venue for Carnatic music, every year since 1990. Indeed, with the award in 2013 of the Sangita Kalanidhi of the Madras Music Academy, her importance as one of India's finest classical musicians has been firmly established.
Besides the Carnatic repertoire, Sudha Raghunathan has also explored the world music scene, in particular fusion music. She has performed as a playback singer in the Tamil cinema as well.
Sudha Raghunathan is married and has two children.
She is known for her charitable work, heading the Samudaaya Foundation that provides healthcare to the poor. The foundation has also raised funds for victims of the Gujarat earthquake and cyclone relief in Orissa.
