Another (アナザー, Anazā?) is a mystery horror novel by Yukito Ayatsuji, published on October 29, 2009 by Kadokawa Shoten. The story focuses on a boy named Kōichi Sakakibara who, upon transferring into Yomomiya Middle School and meeting the curious Mei Misaki, finds himself in a mystery revolving around students and people related to his class facing gruesome, senseless deaths. A manga adaptation by Hiro Kiyohara was serialized between the May 2010 and January 2012 in the issues of Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace. A 12-episode TV anime series produced by P.A. Works aired in Japan between January 10 and March 27, 2012, and a live-action film will be released in Japanese theatres on August 4, 2012.
In 1972, popular honors student Misaki died partway through the school year in Yomiyama North Middle School's Class 3-3. The rest of the students and teachers, devastated by the unexpected loss, decided to carry on as if Misaki were still alive, going so far as to keep the desk in the classroom and bringing it to the graduation ceremony. Yet no one could explain why Misaki was present on the graduation photo, deathly pale yet smiling with the rest.

Plot: It's not a mystery that intolerance BREEDS insecurity. This short film is a real story -- perhaps mine, perhaps the one of someone close to me -- told through the voice of another. The thoughts of a man so ashamed and frustrated with an integral part of his makeup -- his sexuality -- that he isn't willing to face the camera and tell it himself. We've apparently come so far... yet not if you're too lazy to walk.
