MARGAO:
RSS Goa prant chief Subhash Velingker on Sunday lashed out at Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar, calling him a 'Bhasmasur'.
Velingker's attack came in the wake up Parrikar's "betrayal" against his mother tongue over the MoI issue. The Goa prant chief said the defence minister's "evil designs" would lead to annihilation of 'Bhartiya sanskriti' and thus his effort needed to be foiled.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva blessed Bhasmasura by allowing him to kill anyone on whose head he would place his hand. Overambitious Bhasmasura attempted to touch the head of Shiva with his hand and was eventually killed by Vishnu.
"You all elected him (Parrikar) to power and entrusted him with the task of protecting our mother tongue. But he had other ideas after coming to power. If the bill (to give government grants to all primary schools) is passed, there wouldn't be any Marathi/Konkani medium schools left in Goa leading to the annihilation of Indian culture from Goa. And if re-elected to power, BJP would do exactly what we fear," Velingker said while addressing a gathering of Bhartiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) workers at Curchorem.
Terming the BBSM as a 'movement to free oneself from a sense of subservience to politicians,' Velingker said that the 'BBSM was on the cusp of making history in Goa's politics'.
"This movement is not only about winning elections, it is also about protection of our culture, mother tongue and motherland. This movement is all about resolving these critical issues and it is imperative that it does not fail in its task. This is a battle against the forces which are out to destroy our satya (truth) and swatva (dignity)," Velingkar said in a clear reference to the BJP government's "betrayal" on Mol.
Velingker also snubbed BJP for offering doles to people through various welfare schemes, which he said were aimed at making the electorate subservient to its ideas and policies.
"We need to break free from this sense of subservience. And that's why the BBSM movement will prove to be a turning point in Goa's history," he said.
